Buying 2 TPB's on thursday

I have to say that "Year One" is in no way overrated. In fact, I'd say it is one of the single greatest stories ever told. If we're talking overrated, I would say either "Hush" or "Dark knight Returns" (which is way too dated).

With that said, I recommend Wagner's work. Get "Batman and The Monster Men" and "Batman and the Mad Monk". Both are excellent tales.

You should read Year One before you read The Long Halloween. It's the starting point for Batman's continuity and introduces a lot of the mob characters that are featured in TLH and Dark Victory.

Plus--I'll say it, even though it's the minority view at SHH--it's better than TLH in every way conceivable. Year One is damn near perfect.
Agreed. I never understood how a story that takes scenes from The Godfather, turns Calender man into Hannibal Lecter and has a mystery that makes Batman look like the worst detective in the dcu is considered one of the best Batman comics of all time.

TLH hollow???? No way in hell.

Also, besides Year One showing Batman's "origin" there is really nothing great about it IMO. Terrible art, mediocre story at best. No real supervillains. Granted its "Year One" and hes just starting out, but its just boring. IMO its one of the most overrated "bests" of the Batman universe. My favorite part about it is the ending reference, :hoboj:

This just seems like an attempt to hate on Year One after the TLH bashing. Year One is as close to flawless as you can get with Batman comics. And you know it deep down, Yurka. :o

I wouldn't say Hush is overrated. 2-3 years ago, maybe, but over the past few months I've been seeing more people dislike it.

"Flawless" is relative.
Theres no denying that TLH is my favorite, but I honestly am not a big fan of Year One, IMO its just dull and lacks excitement. To each his own though, I prefer TLH, others, Year One.

I bought TLH over Year One. 88 pages for $38, no thank you. I also saw The Man Who Laughs, but I said no because it didn't look too big. Maybe next time.

I just read The Long Halloween. Wow, I thought it was great, people here talk about how amazing it is, but you guys are truly under selling it! Even though I stumbled upon spoilers a few months back, I was still guessing and guessing who it could be, I wanted to read a little bit at a time but I couldn't put it down at all. The ending is sinister.

if you think TLH was the that good Year One will make you cream yourself.

:shock

The ending is pure "cheat". And so it's BAD WRITING.

How is it a cheat and bad writing? It was a great crime drama, you are seriously sitting through the whole thing thinking whodunnit.
Harvey's wife also being Holiday was very unexpected

IMO Year One is nearly perfect, The Long Halloween is perfect. I have spoken.

That is exactly what Year One is missing, Year One will seem quite dull to you if you read it now after reading TLH.

The Long Halloween is with out a doubt the worst mystery I have ever read in a Batman comic. Batman's detective skills were non-existent in this book. Both Batman and the police new what days Holiday would strike and who the victims were gonna be and still couldn't catch em'.

How did they know who the victims were going to be? The Falcone organization was huge. And the victims in it were random.

The fact is Holiday killed members of the Falcone crime family on Holidays. Don't you think that the combined surveillance of Batman, the police, the D.A's office and the F.B.I would be able to stop the killer? The world's greatest detective don't do one bit of investigating in this series. In fact if I remember correctly he's in the Batcave on one of the holidays.

One more thing, there's no way the police and media would label Holiday as a serial killer.

I don't see how you call it cheap, are you upset because Batman wasn't a very good detective? I kind of felt he was holding himself back through alot of it to just let them kill each other. And the part where they make the pact, then they are all back on the roof, except Harvey Dent is Two-Face, that was great. I also liked how they slightly hinted at what would happen to Harvey Dent, how sometimes his left side of his face was shaded off.

I just didn't like how Selina looked like Michael Jackson.

Actually, they were not all in the Falcone family. There was that irish gang who were killed on Thanksgiving in the Hotel, and Sal Maroni's father was killed on Father's day at his mansion. Not to mention the Riddler wasn't killed on April Fools day.

The world's greatest detective don't do one bit of investigating in this series. In fact if I remember correctly he's in the Batcave on one of the holidays.

Of course he does. He studies all the clues left at the murder scenes, draws up different scenarios for different likely suspects in that Batcave scene.

Also, when he was interrogating the irish gang who bombed Harvey's home, Batman said he traced the bomb to him by finding a nail used to make the bomb, which had a serial number on it which Batman traced to the store it was sold and found out it was sold to that irish mob.

And he found filings of gun metal on Harvey's workbench in the basement of his home. He suspected Harvey was Holiday.

One more thing, there's no way the police and media would label Holiday as a serial killer.

Why?

Their all part of the "Roman Empire".

Of course he does. He studies all the clues left at the murder scenes, draws up different scenarios for different likely suspects in that Batcave scene.
But we never see the Batman hit the streets. No surveillance, no interrogations of informants, nothing but him in the Batcave thinking to himself "Who is Holiday?". I expect more from the worlds greatest detective.

Unfortunately it was a murder mystery and not a bomb mystery.

That he did. He suspected Harvey in the April Fool's day scenarios and doesn't investigate his home till Labor day.

Let's have some fun. Let's see if anyone here can figure out why. Here's a hint... "consider the victims". If no one can guess I'll explain tomorrow.

A guy here named Carl Williams who was a drug lord is in prison for life for killing off his enemies, the media called him a serial killer?

What are some other Batman books which have alot of Two-Face in them?

They recently released a Batman vs Two Face TPB.

Their all part of the "Roman Empire".

Uhhh, no they're not. Maroni is a rival to Falcone, The Riddler is part of the freak elements of Gotham, and the irish gang were just a mob for hire.

But we never see the Batman hit the streets. No surveillance, no interrogations of informants, nothing but him in the Batcave thinking to himself "Who is Holiday?". I expect more from the worlds greatest detective.

Of course you do. He interrogates loads of people. He goes after Maroni, Riddler [beats up a bar full of people to get him], Catwoman, he breaks into the Roman's place, is in disguise at the trial where Harvey gets scarred with acid, in disguise as a Cop when Maroni is targeted by Holiday, we see him chase down the irish mob guy in a flashback sequence involving Solomon Grundy, he goes to Arkham to quizz Calendar Man etc.

Unfortunately it was a murder mystery and not a bomb mystery.

Lets not talk nonsense now.

The bomb was the murder weapon which he used to trace to the murderers. Murder weapons are always used to trace killers.

That he did. He suspected Harvey in the April Fool's day scenarios and doesn't investigate his home till Labor day.

Because Harvey was the least likely suspect at the time. But after he stabbed his surgeon at the hospital, it was a different story.

Let's have some fun. Let's see if anyone here can figure out why. Here's a hint... "consider the victims". If no one can guess I'll explain tomorrow.

Because they were criminals? A serial killer is a serial killer no matter who the victims are. Also, I don't recall anyone except Batman calling Holiday a serial killer.

When did the media or the Cops do it?
