C. Nolan's Interstellar

I'm equally curious about who the DOP will be as I am for the lead actor.

Please let it be Claudio Miranda. Keeping my fingers crossed here.

It's been a couple years since I've seen it but I don't remember him at all in it.

Other than Schindler... He's like the lead good guy character. The accountant who helps him run his business and save people throughout the movie... Presents him the gold ring at the end?

I'm sorry, I'm genuinely shocked by this. It's like saying "Harrison Ford was in Star Wars?!" :oldrazz:

Oh, me too. It's going to be weird seeing a Christopher Nolan movie not shot by Wally Pfister.

On a side note, Transcendence starts shooting in like a month... And he still hasn't selected his DP!

After what we have seen from MoS, I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan picks up Amir Mokri as DP for Interstellar. He seems to be a DP that can adjust and adapt well to different directors wishes and styles. Seems to be versatile based on his work.

Of course, Emmanuel Lubezki would be a dream choice.

I also wanted to point out that I don't think we'll be seeing spaceship and the like. Based on the theories and the book that this is based on we should expect something more akin to Steins;Gate (I know Kalmart knows what I'm talking about here).

Just started to watch that series by the way (really great stuff so far) which also examines a lot of Kip Thorne's theories. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if Nolan "borrows" some visual cues from this renowned series as he did with elements from Paprika for Inception. I know Nolan said he didn't see it but that's something I'm not personally buying but I digress as that's a story for a different time.

Either way I'm expecting something set in the relatively near future (modern day almost) with cause and effect, multiple variations of the "same event" and the entire notion of time. Not expecting a big space voyage with time travel in it. Then again the title would suggest that now wouldn't it?

Late night (morning) ramblings. :funny:

Oh I'm expecting a big space voyage alright. I mean, naming a movie Interstellar and not actually going into space?

Can you or any poster briefly talk abut Thorne's theories?
I'd butcher it. Here's Kip himself explaining just some of his theories in the most simplest way.

Basically blackholes being made out of warped time and space. How a few minutes down there could be a million years here on Earth. Singularity being within the hole itself and how no form of matter can exist within it.

Crazy stuff like that.

That would be pretty peculiar wouldn't it? Although based on the theories they're basing the movie on it seems space will merely be a tool to time travel for events here on Earth.

My God. Just imagine the possible (and extremely unlikely) cast:
Robert Downey Jr.
Guy Pearce
Gary Oldman
Benedict Cumberbatch
Michael Emerson
Tom Hardy
Marion Cotillard
Michael Caine
Rebecca Hall
Liam Neeson
Idris Elba
Christoph Waltz
and Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Make it so, Nolan.

He's been trying to work with Sean Penn for years and they made a big play at Daniel Day-Lewis for The Man of Steel (Both Day-Lewis and Penn were offered Jor-El).

Insomnia
Inception
Interstellar

I see a pattern developing.

I mentioned this before :cwink:; Kip Thorne’s theories actually have a prior history with “show biz.” When Carl Sagan was writing Contact, he wanted a scientifically accurate means of interstellar travel for his story . So he turned to Thorne - who eventually came up with a solution that was published in peer-reviewed physics journals (and also earned one of Thorne’s students his PhD). Basically, it amounted to building a pair of “star gates” (from space-warping “exotic matter”) that can connect distant regions via a wormhole shortcut. And with suitable (Special Relativity) manipulations, these gates can also be made to work as a time machine. But this is all (very) advanced and space-based tech. So assuming a loyalty to scientific accuracy (and Thorne did write the original story and is exec. producer) it seems Interstellar could be/might be a full-blown space adventure.

I'm curious about what Nolan's original idea that he wanted to implement into the script/story is.

He'll get someone really well known. He can't afford to pull a Prometheus. Granted, people know those actors but there wasn't one that was like A-list.
But Prometheus did fine

Star power can be overrated it doesn't guarantee a movie success.

maggie riva and quvenzhane wallis for the leads.

also, cranston. go with cranston, christopher.
quvenzhane wallis to play the ships captain :oldrazz:
You know who's incredible underrated? Gary Sinise. I wouldn't mind him in a Nolan film and Nolan always picks these forgotten gems for some good supporting roles.
Isn't Lt. Dan busy with CSI New York?

Since he eyed him for the Howard Hughes project, maybe Jim Carrey in serious mode as the lead? Would be interesting and you have the star power there.

Oooh... I'm very excited.

Interetsing release date... I thought for sure it would have gotten a summer slot. But I guess this take a little bit of pressure of Nolan and could potentially help him out during awards season?

As for the cast, the only people I'd like him to work with again would be:

Hugh Jackman
Gary Oldman
Guy Pearce
Christian Bale (In a supporting role)
Tom Hardy

Should be interesting to see who he picks for his leads and cinematographer.

Also, I wish Johnny Depp was doing this instead of Transcendence. :csad:

I want Mihai Malaimare Jr as Nolan's next DP. He can alternate between shooting for PTA and Nolan like how Robert Richardson does for Scorsese and Tarantino.

I personally want to see Michael Slovis go into big films. That man is a genius.

What's wrong with Jesse Esenberg, and why does he get randomly dumped with Stewart?

I dunno, probably nothing. I just found him kind of annoying early on. Lumping him in with Stewart might have been a little extreme.
