The Dark Knight Caine Describes Ledger's Joker

go read your own posts why joker can not be permawhite
Why should i?

I'm not against perma-white, but it's just not that big of a problem to me...Heck it's just a movie, it's not like Joker is gonna have nipples on his forehead.

there are reports of a couple scenes of him with said nipples.

but it's covered with the make-up. the big "twist" is a third act, climax, batman forehead titty twister to bring down the joker. not the kind of "twist" people were thinkin of. but a titty twist is a twist.

Yeah, if you read what some people say, it makes the differences seem 400% bigger than they actually are.

ya, there are some really good, deep, metaphorical arguments pro white skin. It does impact the character alot. It does seem like something that is overlooked but they really put some meat in that argument.

I am too tired of defending peoples rights to believe in permawhite. These anti-permawhite guys just keep popping up

Where do they keep coming from Captain? They're everywhere.

But I can't help but wonder...if Nolan decided to go the permawhite route and we knew about it ahead of time, what would they be saying right now?

there would be no discussion and the term "permawhite" wouldn't exist. and no one would say it isn't realistic. there wouldn't be a thread that lasted 600 pages, and there wouldn't be this interview, because there would be no discussion over how his face is how it is. people would just assume they know.

however...the big discussion would be "tdk: too much like b89?" and that'd be 600 pages of people crying over one thing or another on both sides of the argument.

I've often wondered the same about the narrow-minded people who are convinced that perma is better...

Excuse me if I am being ignorant but I just can't see what the fuss is about vis a vis the method by which the joker 'becomes' white

ya my post count would go down to 3000 if permawhite in TDK existed from the start.

wow... be gone with the name calling. If anything people who are for make up are narrow-minded because they see the pictures and go ok well thats settled. The perma white crowd comes up with different theories on the skin

well one side seems to think that him being bleached white by chemicals isn't "realistic" enough for nolan's world.

and another side is under the impression that permanently white is the best and possibly the only way to go for the joker, because him not being able to remove his "mask" is essential to his character.

and this has been a problem since "i believe in harvey dent too."

well the permanent white skin serves as a metaphor and catalyst for his insanity. It is what makes him unique from other killers who are clowns. Make up puts a different perspective on that insanity and to a portion of people believe is not as intense as the permawhite skin

and through all this fighting did anyone realize the fifth card was removed?

captain clown and i believe in interpretation. and i guarantee if clown and i were hired to come up with an origin and motivation for the joker's current mental state and appearance, our interpretations would differ greatly, but we would both look at each others creation and say "yeah, that's the joker. not how i would have done it, but that's the joker."

most people can't see that. and i don't know why.

Ya joker, alogn with other Batman villains are like the lore of vampires, they change with each author and are never the same. Some vampires can go out in the sun, another version they can't. Both valid reasons why, same genre and theme yet different views.

allow me to chip in on this debate. The Joker is mad, psychotic, period, his method of skin coloring does not affect that in my eyes. The contention obviously comes because (iirc) there's no definitive Joker origin and he is such a long established character than people have grown very attached to their image of him. For me the key element ofs the Joker's personality are 1) the fact he is a psycho and 2) his 'taste for the theatrics' and NOT his skin.

Over and out :)
