The Dark Knight Caine Describes Ledger's Joker

i this that when he talks about make up, he is referring to the make up that ledger has tu put on for the film, not that the joker puts make up on WHILE filming, there is another interview where ledger talks about the mask he puts on, that when he does, he cant stop smiling, maybe they are talking about something similar, like the make up that he puts on the mask that he wears to look similar to the joker in terms of facial structure

if he cant stop smiling, why havent we got any pictures of Joker smiling...that bothers me more than the makeup thing.

not one picture, am i right? or did i forget some?

Ha, yeah. Okay. Sure. A guy in this world who did that would be dead in two days.

Also, the microwave emitter would completely dry ANY person who came in close contact with it. Since the human body is made mostly of water. And the microwave emitter *gasp* vaporized water!

Are you saying its absoloutely impossible for a man with training in stealth and combat to tackle organized crime? I agree its very unlikely that he will be sucessful in real life, but certainly not impossible. ANYTHING is possible, but not always likely. Like I said it is NOT realistic, but is IS possible, can you understand the difference?

That is what makes Batman unique, he is the only "superhero" who could exist in real life, and so there where Nolan has placed him.

would be great if joker's character never actualy applies make up in the film..

Well, I guess the trailer will settle the debate, or atleast settle which side of the fence each fan sits.

The trailer is the first 4-7 mins fo the film right?, it deals only w/ Jokers origin.
So from that point I'm thinking we won't see anything else that pertains to Jokers origin in the rest of the film.

In this trailer we will either see him apply make up or not, see him fall in chemicals or not. Hopefully for the rest of the film, his face will stay white.
its not his origin as the joker, Nolan said that the joker would be THE JOKER through out the whole movie, before and after, the trailer we will get shows how the joker becomes the most f***ed up criminall in gotham

wanna peak at your present already? hell I can't wait to sit there after so long of waiting to see that grin appear.

And there are chemicals that can bleach your skin in real life.

Lol... no no no, you got it wrong, when he says that he cant stop smiling, he doesnt mean that he is allways smiling.....its just like a way of saying, that when he puts his make up on, he starts acting like the joker even off set, like we saw on that video where he came out of the car
the cant stop smiling is just a way of saying

The Spirit, Wildcat, etc are also vaguely plausible, so Batman doesn't have a monopoly on realism.

Lets say there are chemicals in real life that bleach your skin white AND your hair green.

Its still a really cheap plot device. Its a lame, out-dated "origin" for a character who never needed one. I can think of few greater cliches. As far as I'm concerned its very lazy story telling and not compelling at all.

Seems like people can't understand/accept that. The Joker applies makeup, he doesn't have a perma white skin and that's it. It has been confirmed by the official pics and Michael Caine. What more do you want? And please people just stop arguing that this whole makeup thing sucks, when KNOW that some people don't like that, well too bad. Move on.

i know, i was using it as a transition to bring up my point :cwink:

Yeah. And standing infront of a mirror and putting on make-up and dying your hair for a few hours is SUPER-DUPER AWESOME.

here comes the debate againXD.... i personally dont like the idea of the joker not being perma-white....its just an important element of the character. its like taking off batman's cape. but i dont think it would be that bad for the character i mean...we have seen worse ( Spidey 3-venom) . i think even though they might take the perma white thing out , we will still get an awesome performance out of ledger and an awesome movie!!

really you confirm things through pictures? Boy I wish I was apart of that crew in Wag the Dog.. Fake a war, the people I am selling it to would believe all of it.

that would be great if we never see his origin, I could take that.
As long as he always has a white face too.

As thought-provoking and mature as your arguments have become, I think I'm through debating this with you.

On a serious note, Ledger has told us that he wears something similar to a prosthetic. Surely his character can't apply this as well as his makeup when he is assuming his "Joker" identity.

one of the things that makes the perma white plausable, although i doubt it at this time. has anyone noticed how the scene where Jacks Joker gets water in his face and the makeup comes off looks a lot like the interogation room picture with Heath's makeup streaky?

Ledger wears the posthetic, not the Joker. The prosthetics Ledger wears are most likely for the cuts in the Joker's face which resemble a smile.

caine says he applies make up and 'NEVER' takes it off.. that made me think back to the spy pics when joker is disguised as a cop, hes not wearing make up. does this mean this happens near the start? then he applies his clown make up and never takes it off? lol

good point, i think the "makeup" might now be the cut smile, not the white...and in the picture you can still see the smile faintly.
