Call of Duty 4 to be set in modern times.

The next Call of Duty will have the title of Modern Warfare, as the series leaves the WWII setting for something a bit more modern. Look for the trailer to debut during the NFL Draft on ESPN.

I LOVED CoD2 for the 360. Infinity Ward really knows how to handle that franchise. It'll be interesting to see just what war this takes place in. Id imagine they'll go with possibly a fictional conflict, set in this time period?

Honestly, I know I'm in the minority, but I prefered COD3. It had more variety and more impressive set pieces, whereas I felt COD2 was a little generic , which is especially harmful to a WW2 game.

But this should be brilliant, and thank the gods that they are moving on from WW2. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

I'm not sure if it will work or not. I mean, modern war is a roadside bomber dressed as a civilian running at you with a bomb attached to him. There aren't battles, there aren't major fire fights. It is pretty much a gurellian force vs a massive army trying to overwhlem them. I don't see how it can be captured accurately without coming off as horribly difficult and unfair to the gamer.

No there is no question itll work, Battlefield : Modern Combat worked, but other than that , you pretty much nailed it. I wasnt gonna mention todays war being that if you do, youll have all the anti-war ppl come out of the woodwork just to hound the subject.
But yea, gone are the days of fighting to secure bunkers or manned MG's. Thats why i think itll be a fictional conflict, say along the lines of WWII in being that one country is invading another country and there is full resistance on both sides.

I dunno, I think Full Spectrum Warrior does a good job of modern warfare...plus, there ARE still gun battles that go on in places like Iraq, fairly large operations, its just that the suicide bombing is happening to the people of iraq way more than the soldiers, so it's not really a part of the battle per say, just them blowing their breathren up for silly differences.

Yea and you're right. But for the most part, you dont have the conflict that there was during WWII, i mean the War in Iraq is NOT the War ON Iraq, we aren't fighting that nation, just a few inhabitants that still believe that a dictatorship is the best form of govt. I mean the battle for Baghdad was a huge operation but those are far and few between in todays conflict.

Yeah the trailer is pretty amazing- it looks like it's going to be taking place in a lot of different locations instead of just one. This looks really really good.
