Call of Duty: World at War

Interesting that this is NOT called CoD5. With any luck Activision has removed Treyarch off the main CoD series and instead given them this spinoff while IW continues with main CoD, getting the next numerical title

They do it with the battlefield games. After battlefield 1942 there was battlefield Vietnam's, which was using the same engine, a standalone game, not an expansion, not a sequel, after battlefield 2 there was 2042 which was not a sequel either, now battlefield 3 is coming. I think it will probably be like that, with a call of duty 5 still to come.

Actually, they have. This will be the last Call of Duty game not to be developed by Infinity Ward. IW will be taking over full time for the dev'ing of the CoD franchise.

Exactly. There are great WWII FPS games out there like these:

What about COD3?

What about COD3?
Haven't played it yet and from what I heard, it isn't bad at all, it's just when compared to the previous two entres in the series, it looks like ****.

Also it wasn't developed by Infinity Ward.

where'd you hear this?

where'd you hear this?

Actually, im not sure, i recently came across an article stating this. Ill see if i can pull it up.

*edit*

I think it was the MTV Multiplayer Blog that i read this in and maybe it was just a rumor as i cant seem to find the article im looking for. Ill keep searching tho.

CoD4 was my first CoD game, so I can't speak about the 3rd one. However it seems to be universally panned compared to the others (on these boards as well), so that has me less than enthused since it's the same developers as 3. I still enjoy the current CoD4, both singleplayer and multi. With so many good games coming out it's going to take something pretty amazing to make me want to get this game, just too many FPS's out there atm.

As for it being WW2, I don't mind. In fact Day of Defeat (a Half-life mod) kept my attention for a long time, and I loved the WW2 setting and feel despite it only being multiplayer.

I'd say tho the only major draw for me on this is co-op. I'm not sure why, but lately I've been wanting to play some co-op games, however Resistance 2 will have co-op as well, so it depends on when this comes out.

Most likely I'll just wait for the hype machine to start up and only focus on getting it if the demo and gameplay trailers impress me, or if the single player gets rave reviews.

I will see how the reviews are for this game. Since they went back to WWII i am thinking about getting it. i really enjoyed the first 3 its just that after Modern Warfare i just don't want to go back. to the slow guns and all.

Why don't we get some good Civil War games? Sure you have to reload the ball once after every musket shot, but still. :o

Well don't that beat all. I guess the only wars that haven't been focused on are....Revolutionary, I guess. Napoleonic? ****, i never realized how many wars sucked over the ages.

It would be interesting to see what IW does with a COD game set in Vietnam.

I'll probably get this. I liked all the other ones.
yeah I want to get it just because I think that the online maps for this game will be new and different and I want to play on them.

I think Treyarch or Infinity Ward whould take it to Vietnam. That would be awesome and I'm in need of a good Vietnam game.

yeah if they make one more World War 2 game after this one I think they are over doing it.

It's funny how people never say this about science fiction shooters or modern shooters.:whatever:

My opinion has softened on this game quite a bit and I'm actually cautiously looking forward to it.

cool.

I wish they'd have a Vietnam FPS game. I had played Battlefield: Vietnam, but I really hate how players were able to camp the spawning area with their attack 'copters that I quitted out of disgust. My favorite WWII FPS is Source engine's Day of Defeat, and I will probably give COD5 a pass and wait for their return to modern warfare.

I am definitely hoping to get into the beta again like I did with COD4. Because with so many games coming out this game is one game I am holding back from purchasing until well into next year. But if the Beta excites me enough I would have no problems changing my plans

I just hope its as good as cod4. Its based off the same engine and the multiplayer has as many perks and more as cod4. So It should be atleast as good.
