Call out a Teacher

Have you ever called out a teacher? I really can't think of any other way to put it, but yesterday I had to "redo" a speech that I bommed because she did'nt like what I talked about. Long story short, I pretty much acted like a mix of Chris Farley & Bernie Mac and even though I did'nt really call her out, I alluded to her doing that in my "speech".Obviously everyone but the teacher enjoyed it, but do you think I was out of line?

The act of "disagreeing with a teacher" is certainly not out of line....

I give random information sometimes, JUST TO SEE, if my students will disagree, look it up, bring it up again, etc.... unfortunately, that happens very little.

HOW, you do it, is where the line can be crossed...

So, without having read your speech? It's hard to say.

Oh, and it should be "bombed" not "bommed"..... :cwink:

I've always said that if I became a teacher, once per semester I would give an answer to a single test question to whoever had the guts to actually ask for it.

It's been my experience (particularly in my field, but I'm sure it's the case in many others) that students are tested individually and on paper in things that are more practical and about teamwork. That is my major issue with the program I'm currently at the end of. (Huzzah!)

Another issue is that (in every school I've ever gone to) asking for help seems to come secondary to the "I'm gonna do this on my own" attitude, and this is even encouraged by the faculty.

If your teacher isn't Mr Fargas, then I dont know what to say.

my favorite teacher did something like that. first night of class he handed out and went over the syllabus then opened the floor up for q&a. one guy asked if he could have a dollar and sure enough prof kirk walked up and handed him one.

No, she told me that she did not agree with my subject.

Oh don't worry, her sorry *** is next! :cmad: :o
I think you missed the point. They were referring to the fact you misspelled bombed as bommed.

I have come up really, with only 2 regular answers to questions...

Student: Is this for a grade?
Me: It is now.....

Student: How long does the answer have to be?
Me: 6 pages typed....

I am a huge advocate of "look it up", "think for yourself", "think outside the box", "READ THE DAMN DIRECTIONS....":cwink:

We have a generation of students out there that automatically, raise their hand to ask a question, that they could actually answer on their own....

So, as far as the topic of this thread, hell yeah its ok for a student to "call out a teacher" IF, done in respect, and the motive is pure, not just wanting to be a jack ass..... if I even smell that motive, the b**ch I can be comes out in full force. You wanna "give it" to the teacher? The be ready to "take it" as well.....

I doubt my teacher was trying to push me harder. My teacher was simply not liking my statements, and I don't like that. If a teacher is trying to push me harder then there is a better way of going by it. Oh and trust me buddy, my english is just fine. You're a teacher a so-called "mature" person and you call me a student an ass. If you think it is okay to give a student an F just because you don't like what they say, then you don't need to be a teacher.
Also, I'm fresh out of High-School thank you very much. :oldrazz:
Here is the above post with corrected English and grammar. Corrections are done in bold and red. JJJ's Ulcer, if I've made mistakes, please help me out.

I think that about covers it.

My brother was one of these kids. Sadly, so is my 13 year old daughter. I've always told both of them, "I will show you how to find the answer, but I refuse to give you the answer."

I know, that is why I was being sarcastic.
Anyway, I'll just leave it like this: I'm young, my college teacher is just a few years older, I bombed *not bommed :o* a speech because my teacher didn't agree with my views and tried to be a smart ass about it. When I went up to redo the speech I acted like I was giving a real speech but gave subtle hints like a comedian would. As I finished, the class was in awe and did not think I was an ass (yes there are people over 35 in that class as well). Also, I do not care if my teacher was older than me or not, I will not let someone tell me my views are wrong and I should fail for it.

OK, but I think we are all still a bit curious as to what your speech was about, and what criticisms your teacher gave you.

About covers what? That I can't fix my grammer errors?

Really don't want to talk about it, however, my speech was related to demenstrating something. I demenstrated how to sketch without erasing too much and my teacher says to me that a "how to" is not a demenstration plus some other things. So the next day I have a little fun with her and make some subtle jokes that I was not pleased with her decision.

Well, JJJ's Ulcer had stated your English was appalling, to which you responded by saying, "Oh and trust me buddy my english is just fine." The issue I took with this, was that, when you posted that, you made a large number of errors, and thus proved his point. I redid your post to show the errors you made, even though you say, "My English is just fine." Sorry, friend, it's not. Perhaps, your spoken English is better, but when you post, it's not good at all. Maybe it's just laziness. I know there are a lot of people who get lazy with their spelling and grammar when posting. Oh, well.

Actually, it's supposed to be then, not than. He had that part correct and you done goofed, grammar Nazi.

Well, if you really didn't want to get into it, perhaps you should not have brought it up. You see, by not giving more details, all we have to go on, is your side of the story. Most of us read your first post, and felt that you were acting like an ass. You seemed to take offense to this, but are not willing to give us any real details to support your case. I really don't see that you're going to garner much support.

I won't even bother with the spelling and grammar errors here.

Then, is used to show a sequence of events. Than, is used to show comparison.

This sentence is taken directly from dictionary.com . I'd like you to show me where exactly the sequence of events takes place.

I found their conversation very dull, but then I have different tastes.

Here's the part I was specifically looking for.

then (ðɛn) —adv

2. (sentence modifier) in that case; that being so: then why don't you ask her?; if he comes, then you'll have to leave; go on then, take it

Not to sound like an ass, but sometimes I agree wiht the Teacher if they treat a certain student like crap. Why? Because, lets face it, some students are about he biggest idiots and asses you'll see. I actually saw a kid yell 'Don't tell me what to do like I'm your ****in' dog.' She wasn't ordering him around, she was telling him to stop laying his head on the desk and do his work that everyone else was doing.

Sometimes teachers are in the right, that's all I'm saying.

Hm? OK, you got me. However, you saw the point I was making.

Heh. When I clicked on this thread, I thought it would be talking about teachers who effected your life positively. I don't know why I thought this.
