a customer yelled at me earlier today saying that i did'nt know what i was doing, when i really did know, i was just ****ing nervous and got unorganized about it. and she kept making a fuss about it and got pretty vocal. i got to the point where i really wanted to cuss her out,but i did'nt. do you think thats why customers get snippy at cashiers because they know we can't talk back?

anyway i made a mistake by not getting a dudes license number written on the check that i was accepting but i checked out the name, address which were correct on the license and his signature is on it, so hopefully it'll go through. or else I'm screwed. i did'nt tell my boss either:( she'll probably find out when she looks at my checks in the till.

but so far today i made 1,359.66 and a bunch of credit card transactions.:o

oh and have any of you guys had similar situations before?

I used to work at a movie theater and have gotten yelled at so many times by customers, that I can't count them all. The situations were never my fault. It was always out of my hand. For instance, a customer started yelling at me because the popcorn/soda deals are so expensive. She actually thought that I was the one who sets the prices at the concession stand! lol I've also gotten yelled at because the box office lines are too long. People are incredibly stupid. I've just learned to deal with it.

This woman came through with a 50 pound box of apples [God knows for what] and some other stuff while I was working express. Since the stuff was scattered all over her cart, it looked like she had more than 15 items.

So I told her I was express.

Then all hell broke loose. Apparently, she graduated high school.

I didn't know that. I also didn't know that I'm apparently a complete idiot for mistaking what looked to be more than 15 items.

I should have told her each apple counted.

Should have told her her fat ass doesn't need popcorn/soda anyhow so don't buy it!!

No, GoldenAgeHero. Out of this site of 17000+ users, you're the only one to ever get yelled at at work for something that you messed up on. You're unique in your plight.

One reason I hated working at retail. And now I don't work at all...which is nice:o

my Boss yelled at me yesterday, Im busy editing a video for an upcomming cellphone comercial and by mistake I cut off 3 frames off a scene, so I told my boss that it was a mistake and he say '' how could that be a mistake when your finger clicked the button , you must have meant to do that'' and I was like ''wtf, are you serous?'' .

This happens ALOT in retail. I dare you to work at a retail job and this not happen.

I have about 3-4 years of working in retail, salesperson, cashier, the whole nine yards, and I have enough stories to write a book. Everything from hearing about how French ****es stole a customer's computer to ,of course, the obligatory accusation of being a racist every once in a while. At the end of the day the truth of the matter is that the general public just sucks.

Happened to me one time and one time only, i'm not very good at keeping my temper when I am doing my job and some half-wit starts yelling at me for it.

When I was 18 I working at a McDonalds, and i was working the register and some lady and her 2 bratty kids place an order..I take it and send it back, she gets the order and then tries to ***** at me that I got it wrong, at first I tried to be nice about it an showed her the order, and 3 people that were standing there told her that I had gotten her order right, but she just wouldn't let up.

After, about 10 minutes of her *****ing, the manager comes out and tried to calm her by retaking her order, and she ordered the exact same thing that she ordered with me. She then tells my manager that, they should stop hiring ******s taht can't get the order right. I lost it right there, I came around the counter got within a couple of inches of her face and said. loud enough to be heard by everyone in the immediate area, to,"go F herself with a po-go stick, and to try and feed her fat F*** kids something besides fast food"...and seh said the classic line, Well, I never...I couldn't let that pass. and told her, "well, that is obvious, your husband would have a hard time finding your pu*** through all that fat", well she grew red faces and stormed out of the micky D's, and I told my manager that i would be leaving now and that I know that I lost my job, which I did.

Since, that I have never worked another customer service job, I am just not cut out for that type of job.

Damn, I consider myself to be a laid back type of guy, but in that situation I don't think I would be able to stop myself either. Actually I almost lost it once when a customer said something to a co worker. She had brought her son, who was I guess 12 or 13 and she asked my co worker how long he had worked there. He said like 2 years or something. Then she turns to her son and says
"See, you wanna end up like him?" Luckily for her the manager was in the immediate area, heard it, and immediately rushed over before either one of us could say anything.

I used to work in a library, and collecting fines was almost always a *****. Oddly, those with large fines were typically not hesitant to pull our their checkbook and take care of them immediately. Once, one of the library's longest-tenured patrons complained about a $.25 fine. That **** happens all the time.

Welcome to Retail. And it only gets worse. I told you before, you have to bite your tongue a lot.

If you think that's bad...try working as a telemarketer. See how much you get cussed out then. I worked as one for 1 night...and I wanted to slice my ears off at the end of the night and soak them in bleach.

Consider anger management classes.......

In my younger years I have dealt with a lot of *****y customers but you just got to smile and forget it.....I am not going to waste another moment thinking about it.....

Welcome to Retail. And it only gets worse. I told you before, you have to bite your tongue a lot.

I worked retail for 3 months. I never really got *****ed out, but a few people spoke to me rudely. I remember once there was this group of teenage/possibly early twenties girls who wanted to try on some clothes. I explained that all the changing rooms were full, and that I would let them know when one became available. When that happened, I approached them and said something to the effect of "Okay, there is a changing room available. Who wants to go first?" and this one girl just looks at me and goes "Your mom."
I don't think she meant it maliciously, but I was more or less speechless the rest of the night. Friends make your mom jokes all the time, but complete strangers....

What's sad is that the people that yell never seem to figure out that they'll get less help through yelling than by calming talking things out.

Naw, dont need anger managment, and who the hell are you to tell me....:woot: just kidding....I am actually a pretty laid back type of person, but I just don't appreciate when someone talks to me that way, people that work retail and customer service are human too, well telemarketers may be the exception here:oldrazz:

The job I have now (film/video editor) can be alot worse than retail, but the people you work with know haw to talk with you about your work and how to critique it, without sounding like an a**hole, well except if the director is with you:yay:

ahh customer service horror stories...they're always so fun. i've found that the best way to get back at a really angry customer is to be really really nice to them, rediculously nice, always smiling and talking calmly no matter how mad they get. It usually sends them even deeper into their tirades till they storm off, this is usually the best time to tell them "have a great day, and we hope to see you again soon".

I haven't been *****ed at too often; I mix paint at Lowe's. It's mostly people complaining about prices, but people do have a tendency to complain when I tell them we can try to match their paint colors. They ask if we can do it, and I say that yes, we can try.

"Why can't you get it to match exactly?"
Me: "Spectrometers simply have limited capabilities. They're not extremely advanced or, 'smart,' so at times matching can be hit-or-miss."
"...but why can't you get it exactly? Just match my damn paint! I don't see the problem there."

Or this other guy...walks in, sets three paint samples from his own wall in his home down on my desk (common).
"Paint matching."
Me: "...yes?"
"Can you do it?"
*I look at samples, smile*
Me: "We can try!"
"Try?"
Me: "Yep."
Then he picks up his samples and walks out of the store. Probably for the best...ther perfectionists are never easy to deal with, and color matching is usually more involved than just letting the machine analyze it. Customers expect you to go beyond the machine and match it by eye (which I can do sometimes).

Yeah...I guess I don't deal with a lot of ******* customers, really. But I do know the type, and the encounters. Witnessed them all-too-many times.

I am glad I am not the only person whose first reaction at personal failure is "I am sooo making a thread about this on the Hype"

A while ago at my first job I was working the cash register and we had a really "bright" customer come in.

They tried to order something, and I could barely understand a word they said.

It just came out as "ij laf as filj sd f fires"

Me: Hello, what'd ya like?
Them: WelmFrhyxznummbrdger
Me: I'm sorry?
Them: IwansumWelmFrhyxznummbrdger
Me: I'm sorry sir, what was that again?
Them: WELMFRYYXSNUMMBRDGER!
Me:
Them: WELMFRYYXSNUMMBRDGER!

I was scared he mentally ******ed or something, but he looked absolutely capable of carrying on a good convo.

Either way, he pointed to some pictures on the counter and I got his order finally.

He was leaving, and he tried to push on the door. [wrong way]

He tried several minutes to get it open, and after a lot of yelling. He came to the counter and continued to mumble something about the lock.

I said he had to pull, not push.

I understood him enough to hear him say he didn't believe me... he didn't trust me or something.

I go and open the door and he runs.

The weirdest thing ever.

But funny as hell.
