Camelot

I like finnes take on Merlin so far. I always felt there was the kinda power behind the throne vibe from Merlin from some of the orginial tales, good to see it played up here. lad to see the Gwain intro, he is my fav night of the round table. My only real worthy is the Guin story at this point. To have a love trangle so soon and then follow it with the mother of all love trangles kinda seems repetive

Skipping over any posts just to say it's in the DVR and after a few episodes I'm going to watch several in a row.

It's been my experience show like this(Tudors, Rome) are better if you string a few together.

Doing the same thing with Borgias.

....Meh.

I thought this episode was a step down from the two-episode premiere, which wasn't amazing either.

What I Liked:

-Eva Green as Morgan. Every moment she's on the screen, the show has life and energy to it. Every moment she isn't on the screen (about half the episode, if not more) it just kind of plods and has no kick to the narrative. Unless we find out her evil magic comes from a really dark place, quite frankly I see no reason why anybody would root for Arthur over her.

What Didn't Work:

-All the scenes without Morgan. Most especially the love triangle between Arthur, Guinevere and that other guy. We all know how it is going to end and it is far too early to put that triangle in here. We know that she marries Arthur and then begins a slow, but ultimately torrid and passionate affair with Lancelot. Her being married before Arthur and cheating on her husband just feels repetitive even though we haven't met Lancelot before. Plus, when he shows up and she starts cheating on her second husband, she is unfortunately going to come off as a *****.

My thoughts.

Eva Green is definitely the life of this show. She looks so delicious and evil at the same time. The only other thing i've seen her in is Casino Royale.

Watched the 2 episodes tonight. It's interesting enough to keep me watching. Eva Green really steals the show.

Is this a mini-series or will there be more seasons?

Check out:

Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) and The Dreamers. Methinks you'll especially enjoy the latter.

Anyway, I watch 1.4 this morning and....ugh. I liked the first episode and 1.2 was pretty good too. But this show is so clearly going downhill.

I realize that unless we discover how evil her powers are, Morgan should be the protagonist of this show. Eva Green brings light and energy to an otherwise dull and plodding show. She actually is putting some equality in her castle and has the personality of a true monarch. Arthur is just Merlin's tool. At first I was okay with starting with a weak, boyish Arthur and seeing him grow. But he for the most part all he does is lust after his champion's fiance and now wife (who he performed the wedding of!). He just comes off as a *****e and given we know where this go when Lancelot shows up, it makes Guinevere look like a weak, weak woman.

And then this week it was still mostly about that half-assed love triangle that makes its lead character (Arthur) detestable and revealing Merlin to be a *****e as well. He "accidentally" kills not just the swordmaker (who most likely would not have killed his petulant boy-king) but his daughter, Excalibur, as well?

Merlin is as big a tool as Arthur in this. When Gwain has a knife at Arthur's throat and instead of handling it himself, we saw Arthur being saved....I couldn't help but wonder why they were dying for this brat.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep watching this. The episode Morgan is killed off is the episode I will be officially done, if I haven't stopped by then.

Do we know for sure that Lancelot will appear later on?

My feeling exaclty.
Arthur's kingship will be built over the death of innocent people and betrayal.
The only redemeed part was Merlin's take on the incident which will leads to the Lady of the Lake legend.

I dont know I kinda like it so far. I am writing a book which has Arthur in it and while studying the character, u see he is a boy with this huge responibility thrust on him, yet in most the legends he becomes a good king overnight. While I find the love trangle a little redundant, I also see Arthur as a boy who was one day chasing women freely and now has to lead a nation. It takes awhile to find your way in that and learn its not just about you, but the people and I think thats what there going for.

I also liked Gwain in this, trying to teach that honor is all good, but if you want the kingdom to survive, you have to do whatever it takes. The Merlin story I was kinda 50/50 on, would have been better if they gave the blacksmith more motive to kill Arthur then simply showing a vision. And kinda bummed we won't see the real lady of the lake cause the character has always intrested me, but still pretty good,.

Merlin is actually the reason I love this show. he's not a godly old man, but rather a lunatic with vision and on the side of good for the most part.

as far as Arthur not being the perfect king everyone wants him to be, hows about we watch him grow into that. sure he's a brat now, but that's a lame reason to be turned off.

Every scene with Arthur in it is getting quite painful to watch; i'm glad this ep dedicated a lot of screen time to Eva Green.

Amen. This show kinda sucks, but I continue to watch for Eva Green.

You haven't watch The Dreamers?! You poor bastard.

I just caught the 3rd episode. Definitely don't like how they've handled Arthur and Guinevere. They couldn't be any more unlikable.

EDIT: Just watched 4. The Arthur/Guinevere plot is really annoying. However, I kind of like the way they're going with Merlin. He does come off as an ******* in this because of what happened, but at the same time it makes him sympathetic. He doesn't use his powers because of how dangerous they are and he had those guys beat him up at the village as punishment. It's kind of refreshing to get a different take from the old, wise sage that spawned characters like Gandalf and Dumbledore.

I've seen snippets of the Dreamers movie, just never seen the whole thing. She has (Eva) the perfect female body..after Kelly Monaco. :)

No new episode tonight?

Agreed. I hate all his story arcs. He's so annoying. The Merlin and Morgan stories are the only ones I'm interested with.

oppps thought i posted this somewhere else

I've seen a LOT of hate regarding this show when I googled it, but I just watched all 4 episodes today (I think there are only 4 so far?). I enjoyed it and don't really understand the intense dislike. It's a new take on the story, which I like. Arthur is incredibly unlikeable, which is sort of intriguing. It makes him very human and I'm assuming that these are all things which help turn him into a great leader...we all learn from mistakes. His whole desire to take Guinevere from her husband makes me not feel bad for him knowing what's coming after they in turn marry...karma's a ***** :o

I have a question about episode 4: Are we supposed to understand that scene where Morgan comes back to life? There was a part where she looked in the mirror and said something along the lines of "No, not you. Anyone but you." I didn't understand who it was she was seeing/what was going on.

The show is losing me because I can't stand Jamie Campbell Bower as Arthur. I hate him, I don't like him at all anymore. At first I wanted to be patient and see if he would grow on me, eh eh, not happening.

I do like Eva Green in this show a lot. But the way the show is going, I wish Morgan and Arthur would just screw and make their incest baby that will try and take over everything already. It just seems that's the way its heading with Morgan's ability to shapeshift, I can only assume she will take Guin's form at some point to bed Arthur and produce an evil incest baby/future would be conqueror. Also to be clear, I don't support incest, but this is part of Arthurian legend and was portrayed in Mists of Avalon and Excaliber.

I'm gonna need Merlin to get like 500% more magical. kthxbai

She saw her mother and shapeshifted into her

It looked to me like she had turned into Igraine.
