Um, the fact that message boards have been full of good buz -- even IMDB.

My friend just texted me saying "James Cameron's new movie looks sick!" and he's not a sci-fi fan by any stretch of the imagination. The trailer house behind the trailer deserves a pat on the back.

What has been the general consensus with regards to whether the trailer spoils plots of the film?

I don't think the trailer's shown anything we never knew about before.

Yeah, kind of like what happened with another brand new sci fi offering titled District 9. Oh wait...

district 9 got some great legs under it due to word of mouth.....its expectations were also lower...as far as Avatar is concerned, if it doesnt break the opening weekend record, its not going to look good

Only sequels break weekend records really. Maybe if it were a summer release it would have a chance. I think as long as it makes its budget back domestic it will do fine WW. Ima say 350 domestic, 650 WW and close to the billion range. Probably more than that if the experience is that good.

i know it will make alot in Japan, they will eat this up

It doesn't need to break the opening weekend record to look good. That's a completely unrealistic expectation to place on this movie. Word of mouth will be key to this film's success and a good solid run.

How so?? James Cameron has spent about a decade working on this and using technology that will most likely set a benchmark in CGI and visual FX...the standards have already been set high due to the time invested....if your brain hasn't *** within the first 10 minutes of this film, you should feel shortchanged

What if the first 10 minutes feature no CGI?:oldrazz:

Word of the mouth is key, whether or not Fox's marketing campaign fails. Films like BB and Pirates of the Caribbean are fine examples.

The only people that know about what went into the making of Avatar are the online fanboys. The public won't know or care how it was made, they'll only care about the story and being entertained.

Avatar is a completely new and original product. It has no brand recognition. They have to build it through marketing and good word of mouth.

probably a dumb question but has the new trailer been leaked online yet ?

yep, its pretty much everywhere, i would reccomend you to do a youtube search.....and well....you might find something cool.

Why was every line in the trailer cliched?

I'm going to wait to the real thing comes out to pass full judgement but I wasn't feeling that trailer. And I was one of the people who liked the first one.

Cause Cameron is decidedly NOT the best writer of dialogue? :oldrazz:

The "You'll be making a difference" line immediately reminded me of the Wolverine trailer. :lmao: Which obviously isn't the best thing to be reminded of, but the visuals looked 10000000000000x better in Avatar in terms of actual epicness, so hopefully we're safe on that front. :funny:

Apparently if you think Titanic has "poorly" written dialogue, all of his movies do.

At least that's the way their posts are coming across.

Oh.

To tell you the truth, I've never watched Titantic or True Lies or that horror movie he did. I've watched the rest of the flicks though and I didn't have a problem with the dialogue in any of them. Well, the first Terminator's dialogue got a little silly a points but I mostly didn't have a problem with it.

I'm not saying his dialogue is brillaint or anything but it's not even close to being bad.

I've seen Terminator, Abyss, and True Lies and parts of Aliens and Terminator 2. And his dialogue isn't anything to write home about. It gets the job done, but it doesn't move me.

It's definitely not the worst thing one could say about a film - if someone's main complaint about a movie is dialogue, then it's actually a good sign as to the overall quality. Bad movies have MUCH more to complain about that just bad dialogue. :funny:

Cameron's a good storyteller. You know what's happening in his movies, you know why they're happening, you know what his characters' motivations are, and the sequences are emotionally compelling. Dialogue is pretty low on the list when it comes to actual storytelling, just as continuity is low on the list when it comes to editing.
