''But the initial flurry of clips from "Avatar" aren't promising. The creatures in the film look ... fake, and yet Cameron is the man who revolutionized the special effects-driven movie with "Terminator 2."''

how in the name of god can you look at this and say it looks fake?

i think the problem people have most with design is the smootheness, when they see a humanoid they expect roughness, pores, hair, but instead they have like stripey dolphin skin.

No, I see it too. Like many have said, it's the best cgi out right now, but it's still not absolutely perfect to the point where it cannot possibly be improved. What can be improved, I do not know.

All I can trust is my eye says "looks very good, but still not 100% photoreal".

its as photo real as stripey blue people are ever going to be.lol like really if they had just spent time making super realistic non blue people i think it would come out flawless. technologies great, but without a good design it will always lack.

I agree with this. Some of the images released do look photoreal to me however others just look like extremely good CGI. I am not saying that this is a bad thing because the tech used in this film is miles ahead of anything else but I guess inconsistencies can be expected.

You have to somewhat suspend disbelief with them. Look at how cats look like, and just try to envison what they would look like if there were humans with those features. Kind of have to use your imagination. They look too real you start going into uncanny valley.

cameron has said himself on a number of occasions that the images produced later in the process are of a higher quality than images made earlier, but they were still good enough that it wasn't worth redoing.

I think this goes on in a lot of cg heavy movies, I remember watching Revenge of the Sith and noticing that certain shots of yoda from the end of the movie were far better than most of the special effects through out the rest of it.

Also i've been thinking, how many blue animals do ever actually see anyways, much less blue humanoids? Like barrring birds or fish there really aren't that many blue creatures.

The side profile shot of Neytiri in that pic is what sells it on photoreal.

when i saw Neytiri in the 15 mins it looked real, the way she acted in that one scene, i think its when she first meets Jake
she said it was all your fault

From what Slashfilm says about the trailer:

Michelle Rodriguez sounds like she's on the good side.

hey guys can anyone tell me what movie is going to be showing the new trailer

Your best bet would be Vampire's Assistant. It's PG-13 and quite a few people will see it. I would honestly say the second best bet might be Astro Boy. Even though it's PG, they are still allowed to show PG-13 trailers (chances are the trailer will be for ALL AUDIENCES anyway)

SAW IV might have the trailer, but I doubt it.
