Can someone explain why Will Smith has lost a lot of his popularity?

I feel like Deadshot is a good role for him at this point in his career. Lets him in on another (potentially huge) franchise, but he doesn't have to carry the movie. I can't see Deadshot getting his own movie, or being the main villain in any solo film, but he can definitely be a fair sized part of things.

It's a great role for him, but not if he's going to give Ayer a hard time.

I know a guy, who knows a guy. You don't have to believe it if you don't want to.

In all the interviews and press, Smith has seemed super enthusiastic about the director and the film. And in all the set pics everyone seems to be having a blast. So yeah... I don't believe it.

Aziz, why are you wearing Phantasm's skin?

Here's a question... Why does it matter what anyone else thinks of Will Smith to the OP?
maybe because he's aware of the fact that will smith was once a big superstar several years ago and his part of the limelight has clearly diminished...and he's wondering why?

But one thing I don't think anyone said is that the landscape of Hollywood had changed. There aren't any "movie stars" in this era. Nobody sees a film because of one actor these days. Will Smith is the last true movie star as of 2015 until the landscape changes again.

This. His kids saying dumb stuff is not a major problem. And Will's had some bombs in the past. He hasn't declined, its just that star vehicles are no longer a thing. Will Smith needs to latch on to a new character that can spawn a franchise, which I'm sure is part of the reason he's playing Deadshot.
I agree with these posts.

I don't follow Will Smith's kids as I don't care about them.

Actors careers go up and down. Smith hasn't been in many movies in recent years and the ones he has been in have not done so well.

^Yep. He had a 4 year gap. Then when he returned, MIB3 had a lukewarm reception and After Earth tanked. It being a Shymalan film had something to do with it as well.

Yeah, I bet he's kicking his own ass now for rejecting that role, for the most stupidest reasons too.

Exactly which probably the reason why he accepted the role of Deadshot.

I don't think most people want to see Will Smith slaughter whites in a slave revenge fantasy.

Plus Jamie Foxx disappeared in the role far better than Smith possibly could.

As great as Jamie Foxx was, Will Smith could have exceeded him.

he did Wild Wild West tho, so basically the same thing rite? :o

He hasn't been hanging out with the cast off set like all the other actors.

Maybe he's too busy praising xenu.:o

....but that would imply that Hancock was on your radar... poor thing :p

Hancock was pretty damn good in the first half. That second half on the other hand...yikes.

I think Hancock could have been great but I agree it fell short of even "good." "Okay" or "fair" would be the best I can give it.
