I'm surprised it took so long for someone big to complain to Sony about their bad prices & the related bad sales (PS2 sold more than PS3 a month or two ago). PS3 is just like the other systems except with Blu-Ray, not worth $600 as an initial price.

No I'm not a fanboy because I had a PS1 & PS2 & have a (dusty) Wii.

Had the PS3 been simply a gaming console, then yes, a $600 price tag would be ridiculous.

But you have to consider the fact that at the time the PS3 launched, Blu-Ray players were on average about $500.

As such, you were getting a console with more technical features than its main competitor the 360 and a next generation Blu-Ray player for $200 more.

Had Blu-Ray failed, then that investment would be a waste. But the format has succeeded and as such you not only a get a fantastic gaming console, but a top-notch Blu-Ray player as well.

Today, however, with the decreased price of Blu-Ray players, buying the PS3 at its current price would not give you the same value. But back then, it was an excellent deal.

Expensive, yes, but not without a reason.

You call it 2nd party, i call it 3rd party partners, but it´s the same deal (to tell the truth, i never heard of them being called 2nd party, but that´s cool).
They are the perfect example of it, and yes, MS doesn´t own anything of Valve, but the deal is more or less the same, more even when, i believe (and after Gabe saying that about the PS3) that The Orange Box was the first and last of their games on the PS3.

No it isn't. They are nowhere near the same deal.

With 2nd Party developers like Bungie, Insomniac, Media Molecule, HAL Laboratory, Robot Entertainment, GameFreak and Sucker Punch, they hold publishing and funding deals with Sony and Microsoft and are essentially developing exclusively for those consoles because they have long standing business ties with those companies. Most of the IPs they work on like Halo, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, inFamous, Pokemon, Kirby, LittleBigPlanet, and Sly Cooper are owned by Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft most of the time.

Then you have 3rd Party developers like Kojima Productions, High Voltage Software, and Valve where the people in charge decide that they want to develop their games exclusively for whatever reason. However, Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft do not fund or publish these games. They have other companies like Konami, Sega, or Electronic Arts to do it for them. They do not own the IPs to those games developed and they can do whatever they want with them as evident in Konami deciding to have Metal Gear Solid: Rising multiplatform and Valve outsourcing the port job of The Orange Box to EA UK.

But even if it isn´t, a 3rd party as no real obligation to only make games for one console alone, look at Level 5 for example, which only makes games for Sony when it comes to home consoles, but as several on the DS, hell, they were even going to make a Xbox game last gen, but it got cancelled (True Fantasy Online).

The reason why True Fantasy Online got cancelled was that Microsoft screwed the pooch so badly on that one that Level-5 refuses to make another game for them again. And Level-5 really isn't the best example to bring up because they do a lot of work on their own IPs like Professor Layton on the Nintendo DS and the IPs of others like Square-Enix's Dragon Quest, Sony's Dark Cloud. They both publish their own games and have others do it for them. It's sorta confusing.

The best examples of second party developers are Sony's Insomniac Games, Sucker Punch Productions, and Media Molecule, Microsoft's Bungie, Ruffian Games, and Robot Entertainment, and Nintendo's Game Freak, HAL Laboratory, and Camelot.

The LivePlaystation blog is saying that Sony will announce a price cut on this year´s TGS, but i can happen sooner because of Activision´s Ultimatum.

A slimmed down PS3 is definitely a possibility. What's funny is when it happens I bet this guy will be all gloating and being all, 'Well, I'm glad they listened to my advice', when we've seen rumor spills of it since pre-E3 this year

This is just a dumb game of "who will blink first." Slacktivision isn't going to actually drop support of PS3. Either Sony is going to drop the price on the PS3 (which is something Slacktivision has been demanding for a while), or Sony will call Slacktivision's bluff.

Ok, I understand the argurment of Blu-Ray, however, it's video game console, I want to play video games on it, not watch movies. It's actually funny, my DVD player seemed to crap out on me this week and I had two Netflix movies at home and thought, damn how am I gonna watch these. Started watching the one on my computer, then remembered the 360 is able to play DVD's it's the first time I've ever used that feature in my 360 and PS2. Why? Because I buy video game consoles to play games. Adding Blu-Ray was good for Sony in the HD-DVD war, but killed them in the console war, plus it doesn't really help with game because most 3rd party developers won't use the added Blu-Ray storage since a large majority of games are multiplatform.

And that's where you see a consumer divide IMO. The pure gamers would prefer the 360. The multimedia fanatics would prefer a PS3. If you want simply want to game, 360 is the best choice. If you want more and are willing to pay for more PS3 would seem better suited.

thats where I stand on it. The PS3 is an amazing multimedia device and it has so many extra features which I use and enjoy. Thats one of the reasons why I love it over the other systems

Blu-ray disk is pretty convenient in games like id's Rage and Square-Enix's Final Fantasy XIII which will be multidisk on the Xbox 360 and one disk on the PlayStation 3. The limits of DVD were also expressed in the development of Grand Theft Auto IV and people are questioning about Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

The only reason why we aren't seeing more multidisk games on the Xbox 360 is because publishers don't want to pay the various royalties to Microsoft and Toshiba involved. If you notice most of the multidisk games out like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Forza Motorsport 3, and Infinite Undiscovery, they are published by Microsoft themselves or in the case of Infinite Undiscovery, Microsoft owns the IP.

Frankly, next generation, Microsoft is going to have to have blu-ray or do what Nintendo does and make their own optical disk format to hold larger amounts of data because DVD-9 isn't cutting it anymore. Video games should not be multidisk this generation on powerhouse consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and there is no excuse at all for them next generation.

EA has become very modest. You dont really hear anything negative regarding them anymore. The company's reputation has done a big turnaround. Activision unfortunetly, like you said is going where EA used to be
