Can You Hook Up Xbox Live Through an Ethernet Wall Jack

Im at college and the only way that I would be able to hook up to Live is if I plug into a ethernet wall jack such as this

But when I plug the cord into the jack my Xbox still doesnt pick up a connection. I've tried multiple jacks and cords

Can you connect to Live through an Ethernet wall jack?

If your college internet requires you to input some sort of log-in information, make sure you go into settings and adjust for that.

In the main dashboard I think you gotta go all the way to the right and click on preferences or settings. Then you can go to Internet/Network settings and set up a connection. You might just be able to set up a connection straight from the dashboard though.

The Xbox doesnt even read the ethernet cord. It says "To use a wired Internet connection, make sure an Ethernet cable is connected to both your console and your router modem" even if an ethernet cord is plugged in
