So, can you?

I mean, how are you feeling when you re watching a pretty long movie?

Do you feel how your concentration drains lower and lower or have you no problems at all to follow a long film from beginning to end?

I for one really CAN T watch long films. My concentration falls flat after MAX 140 minutes.

I remember I had a hard ass time watching "Once Upon a time in America" which is 220 minutes. I had to watch it over the span of three days and even then I didn t really understand what the movie was all about.

So what is your experience? You can list the films you couldn t sit through here. But not in terms of quality, I want you to name the films you couldn t sit through because they just FELT TOO LONG.

As I said, my example would be this one:

If the movie is over 3 hours, I have no problem watching it in the theater or on TV, but I can't watch it on a computer, too many distractions.

One movie I couldn't sit through, because it felt too long and was a little boring, was Enter the Void. You could cut 30-40 minutes of that movie and I might have liked it.

No problem at all. If its a good movie it doesn't matter how long it is.

Depends on what mood i'm in and how good the movie is. Obviously especially in terms of pacing.

Once Upon a Time in America is in my top 10 favorite movies ever and it's over 3 hours. :awesome:

i think ebert said it best(i think it was him)

"a good movie can never be too long and a bad movie can never be too short"

I've never owned a copy of ouatia, but i think i have seen most of the film in bits and pieces round other people's houses, I recall balking at watching it round someone's house cause I just wanted to sit and talk , listen to records and get wasted, so a 3plus hour film did not appeal to me in those circumstances.

But aye, I don't recall having any problems with watching a movie due to it's length, if it's a good movie, why? Silly question.

I watched Return of the King extended edition all in one sitting at AMC. They did a limited theatrical run at AMC for the Blu-ray releases.

I'd sit in the frickin cinema all day if i could, love going to the flicks, and with all these new superhero flicks, I'm surprised they don't do special days of showing trilogies back to back in one day at the cinema. I saw the OT of SW shown that way, twice at the cinema, and it was a very special day for all.

Largely, yes. Some though, like Lord Of The Rings, I'll break up and watch em over a week.

Agreed,Sometimes I wish they'd be even longer IF I care about the characters&all!!

The longer the movie the better to me.I personally love epics.Godfather II,Gone With The Wind,Lawrence Of Arabia,Spartacus etc...

I have no problem watching long movies so long as they're good.

I can sit for hours if I'm entertained, and I hate watching a film in parts. It annoys me that the Lord Of The Rings extended editions had to be split across double discs, so much so that I haven't seen them in some time.

Just...treat the disc change over moment as you do when you need to pause the dvd cause the phone has went/you need to go to the toilet/have dropped the toilet roll down the pan and have to run downstairs with your trousers down looking for another roll/want to go for a snack...any of the things that can interrupt a dvd watching session and take about as much time as a disc change over.
I have to admit that it's kind of funny thinking of you being angry with your discs cause you have to change them, and not watching the films for ages.
Hell, whenever I watch the Jabba sequence of RotJ, I have to switch discs ten minutes into the film because I can't stand the new Cg band or the music they added to the SE. The old tune that was written by a female punk rocker was much better.

Yes. My favorite film of all time is Lawrence of Arabia at 216 minutes.

Another one which I watch repeatedly (at least three or four times a year) is Gettysburg which runs for 254 minutes. The Director's Cut Blu-Ray which I got for Christmas is 271 minutes, and I was still glued to the set for every second despite having seen the theatrical version a hundred times.

Well, I saw King Kong and There Will Be Blood in theaters like 3-4 times..

If the movie is interesting and/or entertaining, running time won't matter..

I subscribe to that too (much like with his, "A good movie is never depressing"). I'm increasingly finding that the answer to almost everything film is, "It depends," and so it is here. It depends on my mood and the amount of time I have. I can pop in Aladdin or Ed Wood at any time, both because they're not long movies and because I'm always up for watching them. I can't say the same for Gone with the Wind or Lawrence of Arabia or Seven Samurai. Those are great movies, and I don't have a problem holding my attention throughout them...if I'm in the right place. If I'm not in the mood for The Godfather: Part II and I stop it after 42 minutes, that's on me, not the movie. These are just examples, the first Long movies I thought of. "A good movie is never too long and a bad movie is never too short" is a great way to put it.

Oh absolutely, in the past couple of months I've watched Lawrence of Arabia, Red Cliff, Kingdom of Heaven's DC, Godfather 2, and plenty others. I love long movies.

I enjoy long movies, but at times if I'm not in the right frame of mind(having a bad day at work for example)I can't focus on it enough to finish it in one sitting if it's close to three hours, or longer.

It took me two sittings to finish Lawrence of Arabia and the Complete Restored version of Metropolis.
