Candyman remake

Lakeith Stanfield Considered For The New Candyman Film

But before the "only Tony Todd can be Candyman!" crowd start storming the barricades, he's not in talks to take over the iconic horror role. Instead, the report from blog SuperBroMovies (and confirmed by the team at Collider) he'd be the movie's main character, described as an artist in Chicago who researches the legend of Candyman. And it's not long before strange deaths start to occur around him. Who could have foreseen that?

With Peele as producer, Nia DaCosta is on to direct the movie, with a script by Peele and Win Rosenfeld that is aiming to be a "spiritual sequel" to the original. It's currently taking aim at a June 2020 release date.

Awesome! :mrk:

Great to hear, but raises a good point... Will Todd be returning as our titular spirit?

Jordan Peele’s ‘Candyman’ Finds Its Star (EXCLUSIVE)

There’s a new “Candyman” in town.

Jordan Peele’s retelling of the horror classic has cast Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the actor best known for playing Black Manta in Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman,” as its star.

“Candyman” is expected to hit theaters on June 12, 2020. Production is expected to begin next spring.

Abdul-Mateen, who portrayed the villainous Cadillac in Netflix’s “The Get Down,” will appear next in Peele’s thriller “Us.” He is also set to star in HBO’s “Watchmen” series.

The studio is touting the upcoming film as a “spiritual sequel” to the original. It will return to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. The original “Candyman” was released in 1992 and follows a graduate student who explores the legend of Candyman while writing a thesis on urban legends.

Is he playing the Candyman or the protagonist?

I got excited at first because I thought the article was talking about Mahershala Ali .

It won't happen, but I'd love to see this dude as Spawn.

Yahya is gonna be a big star pretty soon. He's got Aquaman, Watchmen, Us, and a couple other movies.

I see they’re now saying it’ll be a “spiritual sequel”. What does that mean?

Essentially takes all the mythos from the first movie and make a new updated movie out of it.

It will return to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.

He seems like a good fit in terms of stature and presence.

Loved him as Black Manta. I think he'll do great in the part.

Some of the early comments in this thread are.. Sketchy to say the least.

Me and my cousins used to dare each other to say Candyman in the mirror after every time we watched the movies. Good times lol.

You guys should've been calling Bloody Mary instead. Half-assed summoning gets you nothing but disappointment. :o

Just watched the original. So candyman is linked to over 20 murders and the whole neighborhood is afraid of him, but doesn't he have to be summoned to appear? No way 20/30 people say how name.
