Candyman remake

Just watched the original. So candyman is linked to over 20 murders and the whole neighborhood is afraid of him, but doesn't he have to be summoned to appear? No way 20/30 people say how name.
People are stupid.

You can get people to copy stupid dangerous stuff if it goes viral on social media these days. Some crazy teenage girls stabbed another girl to death in the woods in 2014 because some of Slender Man nonsense.

Also lots of horror movie have a bunch idiots being warned about going to some well known site of various murders and then getting killed off. It is a genre trope.

They almost stabbed her to death. She lived fortunately. Otherwise pretty much agree. People will believe/do stupid things all the time.

Even when I was younger and my cousins always did that Bloody Mary thing at sleepovers I was always like, **** that ****. I was the one that watched movies constantly.

'Beale Street' Actress Teyonah Parris to Join Yahya Abdul-Mateen in 'Candyman' (Exclusive)

Teyonah Parris, who appeared in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, is in negotiations to star opposite Yahya Abdul-Mateen in Candyman, MGM and Universal's update of the 1990s cult horror hit.

The new story is once again set in the Windy City neighborhood, but it is now gentrified. Abdul-Mateen, who is still in negotiations for the movie, would play an artist who becomes obsessed with the bloody legend. Parris, if a deal makes, will play his girlfriend, an art dealer.

Maybe it means Tony Todd is back.

I thought dude from get out(the one yelling get out) was playing the reporter. If they made Todd look a little younger I'd be ok with him playing it but truthfully he had his time. Others need theirs. I'd be more than ok and hope he gets a cameo, but would like to see someone else get their chance. Even though I don't think Mateen is a very good actor I'd give him a chance.

I'd want Todd back. His voice is the best thing about the character.

I wonder what happened with Lakeith Stanfield's negotiations, if that news was ever true in the first place. It's not like he has a busy acting schedule coming up...maybe something as simple as a monetary disagreement. Or perhaps he'll end up being in the movie after all. I guess we'll find out.

I agree his voice is great, but there might be someone better. This isn't a role that absolutely demands an actor comes back. Not many are, but this isn't.

I like the setting of Cabrini Green being gentrified (not sure if it actually is or not or to what extent) but I really hope they can keep the social commentary as an extremely ancillary theme but I'm not counting on it, given Peele's involvement. I really hope the focus is sheer terror, myth and the nihilism of the original. I'm sure they'll keep the grunge quality to some extent

I'm a HUGE fan but I really hope he challenges himself to tackle different types of stories rather than horror movies that have some kind of racial message.

On another note, I love the guy they cast as CANDYMAN. He looks like an amzing successor, merely appearnce based

Yeah Cabrini Green is pretty much hipster millennial central nowadays.

Damn, used to have legendary street ball games. Hope they still ball there

Wasnt the Cabrini Green peojects all torn down? Im guessing their recreating it for the movie.

They movie is set in the same area as the original movie but in the modern day gentrified version that it is now.

I have to see what the new Cabrini looks like. The old complex looked generally terrifying i doubt they can capture that feel again. Looking forward to see what they come up with.

Well either way it still seems he's the star of the movie.

Is he going to be the successor of Candyman? And they’ll bring back Tony Todd for a cameo as the original Candyman?

I thought Yahya was terrible in Aquaman. However, he was pretty good in Us.

So maybe that was just poor directing or understanding of the character. I'm sort of hopeful for this.
