At first, some major publishers were content to wait until the PlayStation 3 had increased its user base. Capcom was one of these publishers; gamers will remember several Xbox 360 exclusives, like Dead Rising and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. But now that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has broken through for the PS3, Capcom is happy to return to their multiplatform role.
According to MaxConsole, Capcom believes that Konami's masterpiece has put Sony's next-gen machine in "full swing," and they also acknowledge the loaded upcoming software lineup for the PS3. Future blockbusters like Resident Evil 5 will most certainly be on the PS3 as well as the 360, although Capcom reinforces their desire to support a variety of different platforms, including the Wii and DS. Here's the quote in question:
"We believe that PS3 has finally reached full swing after looking at the success of 'Metal Gear Solid 4,' as well as future large-scale title lineups. In addition, some reduction in the PS3's price was announced at the 2008 E3, and we can expect its spread to increase by next March when our 'Resident Evil 5' for PS3 will be released. Moreover, as we are not only focusing on PS3, we would also like to spread our supply of software evenly between Wii and Xbox 360 while their markets in the world increase in a similar manner to PS3."
Some early PS3 owners were a tad miffed at Capcom for seemingly ignoring Sony's console at first, but hey, the publisher just needed more of a reason to get involved. Well, as they just stated, there are reasons aplenty, so don't worry about future Capcom projects...the PS3 won't be excluded.
