Ha ha
However, I agree.
Bats has no superhuman powers, so he should be protrayed as pushing himself and his body to its fullest potential.
He should never look like an ordinary guy walking around.
Bats is just a man, so to do what he does, he needs to be portrayed as a man who has made himself a cut above others, and yes, the actor that portrays him should bring that forth in all ways possible, including being in "better than average" shape. When Bruce takes the costume off, or takes his shirt off, we should be saying to ourselves, "Jebus! Lookit that! Wayne's a monster!"
Yes, just like Clark Kent does, Wayne should dress down his physique when he is Wayne, but it should still be there, even if for just one or two pop shots in the movie.

Exactly. Bruce has to do everything he can in order to compete with all kinds of monsters and villains and do crazy stunts every night. And if thats how he spent his time, he would at the very least look like an Olympic gymnast, and Bale in that pic looks nothing like and Olympic gymnast in the muscle tone department.

speculation.

:woot:

sentence fragment.

:woot:

He looks about as confused as I did when I first saw it.

LOL!

In TDK his bulk is probably in between and again, probably not so much definition, but since definition is completely superficial anyway, who cares?

Who cares is me and other fans that expect him to LOOK LIKE BATMAN cause that's who he's portraying.

Whether he's toned or not, I still think Batman should be physically intimidating. Bruce Lee isn't particularly imposing, so comparing Batman to him isn't really relavent.

True. I wish everyone wouldn't do that anymore.
Batman is meant to be superhero, and one that relies heavily on fear and intimidation, not just a ninja.

Yes. He does need to look beefed up and intimidating when the bad guys see him, he actually fights them, not sneaks up on them while they're asleep like a real ninja would.

I'm just saying, he doesn't have the physical stature to really convey the menace that Batman should. He looks intimidating while h'es kicking your ass, but if you saw Bruce Lee in person, it would probably be pretty easy to underestimate him.

Exactly. Looking at Batman, you should never think to yourself "Oh I could take this guy." I mean honestly, looking at that pic of Bale, would your average thug who is used to fighting brawls, look at a guy built like Bale is there and think "Oh no! Man, I'm gonna get my @$$ kicked, I'd better run!" Heck no. But that's what they should be thinking when looking at Batman.

Exactly. He's not very intimidating at all because of his size. When he was alive, people were constantly testing him because they wanted to be the guy to beat Bruce Lee. They didn't see the big deal in him.

Nod. And Batman should be the opposite of that. Thats why he needs to wear full suits and act like an idiot as Bruce Wayne, to hide how athletic and built he really is.

Bruce in BB was hardly roided up looking.

Yah - we've yet to see anyone play Batman that looked "too big." Everyone who plays Batman looks like they haven't even hit the weights, aside from Bale in BB.

Well there is a point where size can be a hinderance. Look at male gymnasts, yeah they're short for the most part, but those are some pretty ripped up guys. That, on a 6' something frame would be ideal.

See my above photos. Now compare to Bale. *shakes head*

The issue here is, from what I can tell is, is Bruce in the shape that he would have to be to realistically perform as Batman (in real life) and at the same time, does he convey the sort of physical threat that has emodied Bruce Wayne/Batman in the comics or the cartoons, which many have agreed Christian did in Batman Begins.

Exactly! And to me his body does not look like he could do the stunts Batman needs to do. He doesn't look like he could climb a rope with arms alone. He doesn't look like he could take on 5 guys and win. He doesn't look intimidating, he possibly looks like your average yuppy who hits the gym twice a week to play a little basketball with his friends, and jogs in the morning. Which is a far cry from a serious, obsessive athlete like Batman.

yeah i goofed on that its not silly i just meant i couldnt imagine a roided up batman in tdk and some people have been saying how he looks scrawny and weak and that his pictures he has no muscle tone. thats what i find silly.

Fair play, pal. I actually prefer a lean looking Batman - helps suspend disbelief about his agility. For everyone else, the Hulk's out soon ;)

You know guys, there's already a thread for you to post shirtless dudes.

I just want batman to look buff and do all the things gymnasts do. Yeah, I can suspend my disbelief that much!

How many times in comics have we seen this huge batman holding his victim by the shirt and interrogating him? Batman isnt Bruce Lee. Batman is the goddamn mother****ing Statham and if he hits you, he hits you like a train. If he interrogates you, you dont sleep for the next week, if he stares at you, you piss your pants.

Begins Batman could do that. He was organic, huge, badass and that was mostly down to the suit (havent you seen it on display? Bale isnt inside it. Its buff and puffy on its own).

TDK Batman cant do that. If he looks at you, you re gonna stare at him, waiting for him to transform into a truck. If he interrogates you, you are gonna laugh. And that is all down to the suit that got slimmed down.

In other words:
-Where were the other drugs going?
-....*pisses himself*

vs
-Where is he?
-Dude, i dunno? Maybe he went for a piss...

Yeah mobility is good, the puffy needed fixing, but if batman cant look above average without it, then puffy all the goddamn way!

Nobody ever seems to be happy. The suit was teh puffy, now it's teh segmented. Bale was fat, now he's scrawny.

Can't you guys just be happy that we have an actor of great quality, and a director with a unique vision, and stop picking everything apart before you've actually seen the finished result?

No.

Hahahahahahahaha

I never thought Bale was teh fat. I think he was the perfect size in Begins, actually.

Agreed.
The only problems I have now are the cowl and his size. I think the suit is badass.

Oh well. I tried.

I was only playing. I actually agree with you. Sure, I have my preferences, but I realise that with a character that has varied so much over the long years he's been in creation, that you're never going to get everything that you want from one interpretation. :yay:

Really? Do you dislike the cowl entirely or just that one god awful shot? B/c other than that Empire cover I think the cowl looks pretty slick.

I think Bale is going to be fine in TDK. I mean look at Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney as Batman and compare them to Bale. I believe Bale (as he is in TDK) was still more in shape then all of them were.

Keaton looked intimidating as Batman and he wasnt all that huge at all. Its not like Bale is going to interrogate people without his suit so once he puts the suit on I believe he'll look as intimidating as he did in Begins. None of us have seen TDK so it cant really be proven one way or the other

I really dont like it at all, I didnt like it in Begins, and now it looks worse. The horns, the mouth, and now the nose and "light-bulb" look. I'm not a fan.

I can respect that. The mouth hole is a bit small, and if you're opposed to the shorter more curved ears I can dig that too.

Im beginning to love the suit the more I see it. This is a great shot and even though the lighting is bright it still looks good.

I think there's a lot to like. Depends again on how it looks on FILM, not a still. One thing I do NOT get is why they place a darker background shape behind the bat emblem on his chest. Below and above that shape it's lighter, and they should have kept that color behind the logo so it shows up. It's as if they want to hide that logo. So why put it on at all, if you're going to hide it?

Also I can see why you'd wear all the protection. That's fine. But why NOT put it under cloth? Let your enemies guess about your padding, instead of showing it. Hockey and football players wear THEIR padding underneath their uniforms. Makes sense Batman would do the same.

That is kind of everyones feeling at the moment.

Some of you need to get over Bale's size, if you keep whining about it, do you think its going to change anything? I guarantee none of the people on here whining about it are in Batman's comic shape either, so you dont have room to talk!! :) :) :)

Lol this is true, but I am certainly larger than Bale in TDK.

Honestly, I'm not even sure if this is actually the TDK cowl from this Empire cover. It looks very odd and does not correlate to some of the other good shots we've gotten of the suit. The nose does not look like that, nor do the eyes. It looks like its a Halloween mask. Say what you want about TDK cowl ("lightbulb!!!" "big nose!!!"), but it doesn't look that bad.

What's with all this talk about Batman needing to be huge? Batman doesn't need to be huge, he just needs to be awesome. There have been many different interpretations of Batman, and not all are huge or muscle bound.
