Captain America: Brave New World • Rotten Tomatoes & Metacritic

52% (173 reviews)

It looks like it is now stabilizing in the low 50s. But there should be at least 150 reviews more.

2021, 2023, 2025 - years in which Marvel Studios have a rotten film.
RT score has NEVER mattered to me.
It’s MY score that counts.

I like Mackie but he just doesn't have the gravitas or charisma that Evans had as Cap.

I really would've preferred Bucky as Cap first before Sam. I love the symbolism and subtext of having Sam as Cap but it definitely felt like not a lot of thought went into it.

I think Bucky as Cap carries it’s own set of complications.

You have the easiest redemption story to tell with him. And I think Sebastian is just levels above Mackie as an actor.

My problem with Sam Wilson Cap is that he's just too preachy. I get the overall message Disney wants to tell about him being inspiring but it's all empty. There's way too much dialogue of trying to convince the audience why Sam is Cap compared to Evans, who actually showed you over and over why he's Cap.

And what if the world discovered that Bucky was The Winter Soldier before he was, Captain America? Do you think in this era of, Cancel Culture that they would just give him a PASS?

I mean, he's a U.S. Senator now, so if his past didn't stop him from doing that why would it stop him from being Captain America?

Actually, I LIKE Bucky being involved in
Politics.
Let’s keep him there for awhile.

50% (229 reviews).

For comparison, the other new movie that came out in my area is the new Bridget Jones movie which has 85%. The score for Brave New World was getting better, climbing from 47% to 53%. But after seeing it last night, it really should lose more points. Its really a bad movie. Eternals was entertaining and should get a higher rt score than this one.

Perhaps. But, Eternals was too ambitious.
Introducing so many characters at once was NOT a good idea

Congressman, not senator.
In fact, he's referred to as "future congressman". So we don't even know if he's elected yet. It'd be odd if he's not in office considering Ross has been President already for 3 months in the movie.

Now, sure, a felon can even be president :yawn
That, we know.

But being Captain America is just, different. Even in the movie it's stated him and the president are seen as "the country's two leaders" and that's partly why Sam tries to work with Ross even after the way he treated The Avengers.
Anyone questionable can be a political leader. Not anyone can be a moral leader.

And I'm not saying Bucky is questionable. He very clearly isn't, and is a GOOD man. But his past (or more correctly, the Winter Soldier's past) is there. And even if he's redeemed himself, he can't forget what he was forced to do. It's his own unfair curse.

I just can't buy into Bucky becoming a congressman. He was literally a HYDRA hitman who murdered people, brainwashed or not, for decades.

I am more interested in his motives. I have have seen speculation that he might be doing it to trap Val. Get her to bribe him, something like that.

^sounds like people just don't buy it and are trying to find an explanation that makes it make sense. I mean, same.

As long as the public can accept that he had no control, absolutely none, as the WS. That's not an issue IMO. For me it's that on TFATWS he's the guy sulking on every couch he comes across, doesn't talk much, who's super awkward around normies, even when he has opinions (unless it's about the shield), the moment someone disagrees he folds etc. How does he campaign, who is funding it, how does he convince people to vote for him?

Well as far as the emotional stuff goes, it’s been 11 years. He is not the same person.

Up to 51% (239 reviews).
Still in 51% (252 reviews).

It could still go as low as 49%, but its safe from scoring similar to the number of Eternals and Quantumania. That being said, there's not much difference from 46% to 51%. The Marvels in comparison is 11 points higher.

Also before someone says their score only matter to them, sure. But these statistics from Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic make for an interesting read, and they do matter in the grand scheme of things.

Metacritic

70 Winter Soldier
70 Ant-Man and the Wasp
69 Far from Home
69 Avengers
68 Infinity War
68 Black Widow
67 Guardians 2
67 Wakanda Forever
66 First Avenger
66 Age of Ultron
64 Ant-Man
64 Captain Marvel
64 Guardians 3
62 Iron Man 3

Its interesting how the ranking/scores differ in Metacritic, compare to Rotten Tomatoes.

That's kind of an absurd, convoluted way to expose her. Also, that's arguably bad for the American people as well.
