Captain Marvel Captain Marvel costume thread

And in the movies, Vision flies basically the same way Superman does.

From Jamie McKelvie:

Did I ever share this doodle of a MCU-style Carol I did a while ago?

She looks like an Archer character, lol

that said, I like it

Not sure why making a costume more "cinematic" automatically means adding random crap to its basic design. What's up with the different texture on the sides?

But besides that, I like it a lot.

it just adds to the visual layering and detail of the design.
Look at Strange's cape in the film... if you were to make an actual cape, there's no reason you would include the, like, 20 different fabrics they used in the production of the film. But it adds layers and texture and makes it feel more real and lived in.

costumes that lack details and layers and texture end up feeling very costume-y, or just bland, ergo Superman's Man of Steel costume, or Cap's Avengers suit

As Park and Ant-Man director Peyton Reed looked on, a cluster of journalists stared intently at the images, which showed Larson-as-Carol in three poses: a medium close-up of her face and shoulders; a less revealing version of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman pose on a rocky outcrop; and one with the Captain in full battle mode, punching up to connect with the mechanized fist of a much larger robotic creature. In all of them, Carol is wearing the same red-and-blue suit, which bears a striking resemblance to the Jamie McKelvie character redesign from 2012—including a high collar and zipper. The red in the new art is darker than what we usually see Carol wear in the comics; it looks like the palette may have been deepened to match the cinematic Captain America’s. And though the material read as shiny, it resembled Cap’s hardier cinematic fabric more than the clingy spandex we see on the page.

In the concept art at Marvel Studios, the sash was gone and replaced with a thin, dark-red belt to match her red gauntlets and boots. And the star emblazoned on Carol’s chest read as more white to me than traditional yellow.

But perhaps the most “controversial” element of the drawing was Larson’s hair. It was a little above shoulder length, and appeared longer on one side than the other. The longest side was about the length of (and exactly as wavy as) the new shorter haircut Larson sported at a premiere of Free Fire (seen above) on April 13. But Andy Park was careful to stress that most hair designs he works with are not final, joking that of all the things he’s asked to change at the last minute, hair is usually the last to be decided. Andy Park and Peyton Reed (who was showing off some art from the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp in the same room) laughingly refused to confirm that Larson’s hair was asymmetrical: it’s “more ’windswept,’” they agreed. It bore the closest resemblance to this.

Covered elsewhere, but still...

Another description:
The color scheme is the same as the current Captain Marvel costume, emblem and all. The major difference is that it seems to have plated armor, kind of like Batman’s Dark Knight suit. This fan art is the closest thing we were able to find that looks like the costume:

Disappointed the helmet was absent. Could have looked really cool & badass if executed properly. I can live without it, though.

One more description:
Her costume and hairstyle are very close to the early issues of Kelly Sue Deconnick's run. Her dirty blonde hair is almost shoulder length. She did not sport the mohawk or upswept hairdo she has sometimes worn in the comics. It appeared perpetually windstrewn from flying about.

The suit itself has that texturized look we've come to expect from any superhero movie suit now. There was some armor plating of sorts on it. The star symbol on her chest was metallic and looked more silver than gold. Otherwise the color scheme was the same but a bit more muted.
The Marvel reps were quick to note that these designs were early stages and that the look could be overhauled once a director is hired. There is no actual suit yet for Brie Larson to try on, but they said they have shown her the concept art via computer and she "“was super-psyched.”

Hmm, so the concept art isnt the final design.

They didn't. The movie suit is clearly a mix of both.

Given that the comic version of the suits helmet seems to be one of the more criticised aspects of the suit I wouldn't mind seeing it swapped out for a gladiator style helmet like you see some Kree wear. I think it would be simpler to adapt and look better on screen imo. Sleek and cool.

I'd rather she doesn't wear the helmet at all. I'd like them to give her a mask though like classic Ms Marvel had.

In some of the animated stuff, they make it more of a domino mask. But yeah I agree that I'd prefer that she not wear a mask at all.

Knowing Marvel, even if they do give her a mask I bet it'll only be for a few brief scenes.

I'm curious to see what the final design looks like. We've seen before (with GOTG most especially) that early concept art doesn't necessarily line up with the final product.

To be fair, I kind of get it given that the MCU largely has done away with the notion of Secret Identities. Like the only major film character who has one right now is Spider-Man (and he keeps his mask on in fights). And of course there's Daredevil in the Netflix shows, but Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand don't really do anything to hide their identities.

Masks in the MCU seem to be fit a certain idea. Cap's is just symbolic, Thor's helmet is for ceremonial purposes, Iron Man's is about health/safety concerns, etc.

Honestly I could deal with the mask if they'd get rid of the faux-hawk hairstyle. I mean I like the shorter hair, but the pseudo-Mohawk just doesn't look good imo.

thats representative of the books' as well. The Avengers and Marvel in general largely do not operate with secret identities. Thats more a DC thing. Masks are purely for aesthetic's reasons bc most are rarely functional like Star Lord's

So far, costume looks generic/uninteresting/ Another disappointment after Wasp.

I find it interesting that the gloves are fingless. Also, I'm digging the costume. Clearly it's the first incarnation of it. I'm sure she'll get the Red/Blue/Gold before long.
