Action-Adventure Captain Planet----Live Action

Has anyone seen this fan trailer? It's a pretty good direction for the film to go in I think.

I think it's way too serious. :funny:

Fun, the beginning all the news clips are a bit intense and put it in a somewhat serious context, and they slanted a bit older, so the characters have serious lives outside being Planateers, but the ending was totally tongue-in-cheek.
It's not a bad approach.
It's not for everyone, but I think this movie is totally doable.
Visually if they can do Dr. Manhattan then they can do Cap. Planet, with a similar approach. Picture him standing there telling that d!wad to recycle :funny:. You know he'd pick up the can.

Also getting some recognizable actors to take on some of these over the top villains like they did on the actual show, might be a way to sell it.

Though anything they do now is going to have to contend with the psycho Don Cheadle version.

Somebody send that trailer to the producers. It highlights every reason this movie is a terrible idea.

Its possible for this to be good. But that trailer was awful. From a writing perspective its possible to be good with the right angle. anything can be. But that trailer was a joke like the grownup rugrats movie trailer. It must be kept family oriented and young.

"Captain Planet is definitely something I'm incredibly passionate about," he told Yahoo! "Leonardo DiCaprio and I have been putting that together for several years. With the recent changes over at Warner Bros., we're just trying to figure out how the pieces will fall."

If a super successful well-written, existential and feminist film can be adapted from something like Barbie, then adapting a cartoon like Captain Planet that revolves around five teens with special rings to summon a super powerful supernatural superhero to protect the environment against supervillains intentionally polluting the Earth through corporate machinations is practically child’s play. :funny::oldrazz:

If nothing else, it would be funny to see the conservative climate change deniers squirm and rage in their seats.

A Leonardo DiCaprio produced live action Captain Planet movie is pretty surreal. I want it to get made.

Powell seems a good fit for Captain P himself as well. Used to love the show when I was a kid.

Yeah I never considered him but I actually think he would be good for this

It always bothered me Ma-Ti had Heart. I was like he wasn't cool enough to get a real power. :o

Watching Captain Planet as a kid: Wow, Ma-Ti has the power of...heart? That's lame.

Watching Captain Planet as an adult: It's funny that fire is one of the powers that summon Captain Planet when it probably does more harm to the environment than good. Go figure that's the power they give to the American. :o

Helping in a harmful way sounds pretty American to me.

Ah well heart is pretty important. We all saw what happened when Zack Snyder took the heart out of DC’s stories.

I like ma-ti. Really looking forward to see the villain though since Captain Planet actually has a pretty good rogue’s gallery

Was he somewhat of an telepath/empath? not sure how they conveyed that. Could he ever actually control or manipulate people with it?
It reminded me Deanna Troi's ability had a similar narrative limitation on the bridge, she could "read" if someone was lying or not, yet that was often more easily and dramatically conveyed by their actual words or actions, so the inevitably superfluous ability, only had so much story telling cache.
She was mostly a sympathetic ear, or the one to express empathy, which worked fine for the character.
Similarly for Ma-Ti, yet for a more graphic action driven cartoon, it left him with very little visual impact compared to the other's explosive powers, hence the mockery.

?
Could he communicate with animals,? Not sure if that's what was actually conveyed in the cartoon? Summoning or empowering any near by animals to fight along side, could have given him a impactful and unique visual, more comparable to the others. They could certainly add that for a movie.
Though not sure about summoning a rabbit or turtle? :funny: ...A woodpecker, however!

While the kids would mostly be unknown, casting some more recognizable dramatic actors as some of the over-the-top outrageous villains, is likely the best way to sell something like this. The cartoon actually had some fun with that casting.

Yeah like some broadway level actors would have a lot of fun with that
