Perfect cast for a 1980s Fantastic Four but who would have played Dr. Doom in your 1988 film?

I couldn't quite figure that one out, which is why I didn't include Doctor Doom.

Interesting choices. Only thing is, there was never a Superfriends movie, so you've posted in the wrong thread. I believe that there is a "Cast A Comic Book/Cartoon Film Adaptation" thread on this site somewhere, which is where your post actually belongs.

But hey, at least you weren't casting today's popular Hollywood talent in the roles. That would have been doubly awkward.

I guess it's more a What If Superfriends movie was actually made in the 70s.
Or consider it a 70s made for TV movie, like Legends of the Superheroes.

I'm pretty sure that the guy who started the thread meant to recast a (relatively) current movie with stars from a previous time, but I'll concede that the title of the thread could be interpreted differently. Again, at least you weren't casting a modern adaptation with current stars.

In 1989? It would be best to hire dwarf actors, like Ron Howard did for Willow. They didn't have the technology to make full grown men appear small like we do today, at least not with it looking realistic anyway.

Americans and the world at large in the 1950's were also very frightened of Nuclear War. This was shown in several horror and science fiction movies. Godzilla and The Fly are two prime examples of this in effect. There are probably many more lesser known examples throughout the 1950's. So a science fiction movie about us blowing ourselves up in the 1950's isn't that big of a stretch.

Also true. The Day the Earth Stood Still is another big one.

But yeah, they probably would just use dwarf actors.

I always saw it as them imagining the film being made with the available VFX of the time. So if a Batman vs Superman film were to be made in the 1950's, the VFX used would be like those used in George Reeves' "Adventures Of Superman" TV series. They look cheesy and laughably fake by today's standards, but in the 50's they were mind blowing. Or if Star Wars was made in the 1930's, they would have used the same VFX as in the Flash Gordon serials that George Lucas used as inspiration.

And they did have green/blue screen effects in the 1980's and 1990's. It's just they looked incredibly cheap and fake when compared to today's VFX. Look at the scenes with the brownies in Willow, or the scene with the Ash-Its (that's what Ash called the mini Ashes in the comic book "Xena vs Army Of Darkness) in Army Of Darkness. Or that Disney movie from the 1940's that starred Sean Connery and was about leprechauns (I can't remember the title). So it COULD have been done with green/blue screen VFX, it just would have LOOKED really bad.
