Cat Saves 4 Year Old Boy from a Dog

More questions can also be asked.
Was the dog tormented by other people? Perhaps by his owners? Did the dog every fight with any other dogs in the area? did the dog ever bite any one else? Does the dog get daily walks? is the dog allowed to socialize? was the dog fed that day? watered that day?

Because this is learned behavior. There may be a history of neglect and fighting. Also if the dog is not allowed to socialize on a normal basis.. this can cause negative behavior throughout their lives.

Honestly, I completely agree with you, which is why I said that I dont really blame the dog but it doesnt change the fact that the dog still has the mentality to attack children unprovoked which is why I think it should be put down (unless a better alternative can be found).

Was that the dog's property? Is the dog rabid? Neglected? beat? Why was the dog not being supervised? Was the dog seeking revenge? did the kid previously hurt in some the dog which made him go nuts?

These are all important questions that should be asked.
Especially if the dog had owners.

Your making accusations, not asking questions.

No he's asking the right questions.
Especially if this dog had owners, putting down the animal is probably necessary, if there was neglect or abuse by humans (on any side of the equation), that should also be accounted for.

Aren't they essentially their fingers?
Finger tips but yes. It would be literally just like someone cutting off the tips of your fingers only they would be taking the first two joints off a human finger.

There's no telling why the dog attacked the kid although it seems unlikely the kid did anything intentionally provactive to the dog. Most likely the dog saw the kid as "invading" its territory or felt threatened. Whatever the case was that dog should never have been allowed to get loose like that. From what I've read the dog already has a history of aggression.

Dogs are the hieroglyphs of blind emotion, inferiority, servile attachment, and gregariousness -- the attributes of commonplace, stupidly passionate, and intellectually and imaginatively underdeveloped men. Cats are the runes of beauty, invincibility, wonder, pride, freedom, coldness, self-sufficiency, and dainty individuality -- the qualities of sensitive, enlightened, mentally developed, pagan, cynical, poetic, philosophic, dispassionate, reserved, independent, Nietzschean, unbroken, civilised, master-class men.

I prefer to think of the individuals of both species who live with me as...my widdle snuggle babies.

So I assume you're a cat person? :woot:
I'd describe myself as a dog person, and used to say that I hated cats, but I've come to the conclusion that I do like certain cats. We have a stray that lives under our house who is super affectionate and loving. Every time I come home she greets me and purrs.
That being said, I never really considered cats to be "protective" but it's cool that they are. Learn something new every day.

To me it looks like the dog thought the kid was a toy(a moving one at that). The dog sort of reminds me of my brothers dog who when i get a stuffed animal and shoot it across the room then he will chase after it and go crazy for like 10 seconds biting it.

All that being said the dog should not have been let loose.

The dog is a Chow Chow mix, eh? People should be more responsible when choosing a dog and do research on the breed before making a commitment. I wonder if the owners were aware of the work that goes into training and socializing Chow Chows. Maybe they should stick to something easier, like fish, or rocks.

Size matters not. This cat is a hero.

There's a lot of people who refuse to look up what breeds commonly do and then expect them all to turn out like Labradors. My dog is a Bernese mountain dog/Golden Lab/Retriever mix. I got him from some breeders who actually know what they're doing but his mother (Bernese mountain/Golden Lab mix) and father (Golden Retriever) both snuck out when no one was looking and a new litter was born. :p He's exactly what I would look for in a dog and I'm familiar enough with 2/3rds of the breed that I only needed to look up the Bernese part to find out what it's like. He's very smart, protective and pretty much teaches himself things. The only (very small) issue is that he sheds like the dickens.

My aunt has a rottweiler that just runs around and destroys things and she just wanted it because she liked the dog but never looked up the habits or temperament. She regrets buying him but still loves him. She'd prefer a dog like mine any day of the week.

Saw this at work today. It's amazing how protective animals can be. My dog is that way when people she doesn't know come in the house. To see this from a cat is pretty amazing.

A cat would have to be pretty smart to only attack others when a defenseless child is in danger.

Must be a motherly instinct.

Cats see you as property after a while. You do as they say and love them when they demand. That dog went after it's property so it's taking offense to that. :p

If I saw a dog chewing on my kid, I'd kill that motherf***er. I ain't lying. Charge me.

MD have you owned cats? I have. That's exactly how they see us. I was outside a few years back and my cat had snuck out with me and I hadn't noticed. A strange cat came around the corner and wandered about and I noticed my cat was sunbathing on the deck, just watching us. The cat comes up to rub against me and my cat just tore over and started attacking the other cat as soon as it did.

She was fine until that cat came to see me because in her mind "MINE!" was dominant.

I was talking about cats with my friends the other day and I made an analogy. If cats and dogs were 80s action heroes, dogs would be the Terminator and cats would be John McClane. Dogs are stronger but obedient to whoever holds the chain. Cats are resourceful and sneaky, and do want they want to do.

hmm.I think a better analogy is:

Dogs = T-800 from Terminator 2

Cats = T-1000 from Terminator 2

I have a male cat named Mojo and he's never given me any indication he believed we were his property. He basically stays in his hide outs and only shows affection when it's time to eat.

He does hang out with my wife often. I guess she's his favorite but he doesn't get protective over her. Maybe it's because we don't have other cats.

I have a dog named Mojo. he's the one I talked about above. :p When I was growing up my sister and I each had cats and they each claimed one of us as theirs when we first got them. It took them around a year of us all living together until they agreed to 'share' us.

How do you know when a cat has "claimed" you?

Usually death glares to anyone else that comes near you. They tend to stick close and follow you about and come find you to make sure you aren't with the other cat. It's pretty funny though.

My cat couldn't care less when I'm close to my wife.

But I'd love to see his death stare.:hehe:

You can show the cat who the boss is by staring it dead in the eyes. Eye contact goes a long way in the animal kingdom.

It's funny as hell. It's an unblinking stare of rage as they slowly turn their head to watch.
