So when I pop in Cd's or DVDs into my lap top, nothing happens. Like I never even put anything into it. Windows Media Player shows nothing and media center says no Cd's have been inserted. My laptop played DVDs and Cd's before till now:huh:

Slam it down really hard on a table...that fixes most of my laptop problems.

My desktop does the same thing, but only with certain DVDs. Like, the newest volume of the old SuperFriends show won't read. It's just really specific ones, and I'll put it something different right after, and it works. My guess is, our DVD players are starting to crap out on us.

Well this is vista:csad:
Time to buy myself a mac soon.

Does strike me as a hardware problem. Does the system recognize that you even have a DVD player in your laptop anymore?

How old is your laptop? Have you tried to play any DVDRs in it? In some older laptops and DVD players, the attemped use of DVDRs discs will cause serious damage to them.

Got this laptop xmas 07. I did play a DVDRs recently which could have done this, but I don't understand why a DVDRs would do that:huh:
