The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chanes of this beating SM2 Quality wise?

I don't think it will top #2. But if it is very good and leaves a very good story to be told for TASM 3, that film could be a serious contender for best Spidey film.

Nope, The Dark Knight was a different sensation to be honest. It was more of a closing movie, if they ended it at that I would have been content. With SM2 I wanted to see the next one right away. I couldn't wait to see the conclusion. The Dark Knight had a more complete ending. Still both in my top 5, just different emotions.

It has a good chance of unseating SM2 however it will be tough. I have my own doubts as to how well this movie will perform critically. As I've stated before in several discussions ASM2 is Webb's chance to truly shine. He's got the origin out the way and now he can make his own personal stamp on this universe and deliver something special. He's gonna have to work hard though, there's a lot of naysayers out there and those that have already been turned off by the reboot.

I agree that there are some people who wouldn't admit it (to themselves, and therefore to anyone else). However, you have to keep in mind there are also people who genuinely won't feel the movie is better. Not out of some preconceived notion or pride or allegiance to the Raimi films, but out of their own thoughts and enjoyment. And there's nothing wrong with that. Just as there's nothing wrong with those who will prefer TASM2.

People did not think TASM would beat SM1 yet it did.

Webb and Co. have went on record to say this is the best Spidey yet.

From what I've seen:

Story and Action on par with SM2
A pretty good villain
More complex elements (setting up future villains and stuff)
Like SM2 this film has a theme
More Spidey quips
No Kirsten Dunst

IMO all these things make it out that this has a solid chance of topping SM2

At the very least, I think TASM2 will be an improvement over its predecessor. Otherwise I see the movie's potential for being just as good if not better than SM2. This is based on the comic con footage, set photos, and interviews with the cast and crew.

I always fall for the trailer trap in Zack Snyder movies. They all look ****ing amazing and then I watch it and feel like I wasted my money. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now. :/

I guess I liked "Dawn of the Dead" a little bit. I never liked "300," and I never cared to watch "Watchmen" either... though I am willing to give it a chance. I don't want to talk about "Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" or "Sucker Punch." So terrible.

Honestly, what's the point in comparing them?

They are two different series with 2 different takes on the characters, as well as two different directorial visions. It wouldn't be a very good comparison on those principles alone.

The only way to make that call is to actually see the film, otherwise you just haven't seen enough footage. But based on what we have seen, heard, and speculated, I think that there is a very good chance of TASM2 being better than SM2.

HOWEVER, I think that if there is any film that this movie should be competing with, it is TASM1. Not the Raimi series, X-Men: DOFP or any other MCU film.

Although I'm assuming this is 100% hypothetical, it's rash and premature. If a Spider-Man movie is good enough to top the ranks of Spider-Man 2, we'll all know it. There isn't going to be anyone on the fence, it'll be better or worse. There's no grey area.

I know a lot of people who like TASM more than the Raimi series as a whole. While it doesn't necessarily mean the movie is better, its still their opinions and nothing says they are wrong either. Opinions are opinions! I personally agree that SM2 is better than TASM1, but I think TASM2 certainly has the potential of being in the same leagues as SM2.

It's skewed because even if the comic con trailer wasn't as cool as it was, people would still be saying it has a chance to beat SM2 because we haven't seen everything yet. Until the day of release, every future Spider-Man movie will ALWAYS have a chance of being better than Spider-Man 2. Probability is probability, anything is possible. Doesn't make those chances likely.

You're making an assumption on the genuine thoughts of thousands of people here. Same as MessiahDecoy. Group/herd mentalities are a real thing, but there are always exceptions and outliers which, often, form a different group/herd. Considering all views are opinions and, therefore, subjective ideas, people may genuinely feel that one movie is better than another regardless of the opinion of the majority. I think many people gauge the quality of a film based on the views of professional critics who are, for the most part, educated to judge movies on an established set of criteria. But even those critics disagree with eachother and have personal views on what fulfills those criteria, which just reinforces the fact that it all, ideally, comes down to the genuine feelings of the individual.

tl;dr: There are gray areas and people don't "know" one particular truth deep down. Even well-versed fans of the source material.
