The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chanes of this beating SM2 Quality wise?

Could this really potentially top SM2?

  • Yes, this has a good chance of doing so.

  • Not sure

  • No, I don't think this film has a chance of de-throning SM2

It's funny you mention the Diner scene, that was one of my favorite scenes. I loved that shot.

The scenes shot at Columbia, in China town, on and in an actual building and alley when Peter makes his jump in SM2, etc...

The dark alley shot was too stylistic for my taste, in fact I feel the the whole series was caught up in it's stylistic trappings.

Unlike the studio shot alley scenes in TASM with the camera at an extreme upward angle as Peter in perched under a spotlight? Peter falling into the wrestling arean. All studio shot. Felt like they were straight from a cartoon (you'd think that would be a boon in a movie like this, but...)

New York's energy wasn't captured like it has been in other films. Again, too antiseptic and one-note.

It's a good job they weren't trying to be "Taxi Driver", or "Saturday Night Fever".

The films lacked a sense of scale that I expect from a big budget film shot in NYC. I want it more stripped down and raw, more visceral.

A very conscious and restrained decision from Raimi. I never missed any sense of scale, particularly in SM2.

This kept the films from going to another level emotionally.

Nothing wrong with it, I understood what Raimi was going for, but I would certainly hope for something different in the future. Webb did a much better job in this respect, unfortunately the script had problems. This time around 95% of the film was shot on location so hopefolly we'll see a dramatic difference in how NYC is portrayed.

I am eager to see how TASM2 plays out. Look forward to higher production values, etc...

also i think i made a connection with SM2 and TASM 2 and that is the china town scenes. i know this sounds weird but it looks like in TASM 2 peter and Gwen are also going to have relation ship problems just like in SM2. im obviously just juding off of set pics and videos and the emotion of the actors

Well there is one thing we can be sure of, even if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't better than SM2 lets all hope that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 can't be any worse than Spider-Man 3 right?
Maybe, maybe not

I never said I thought it was all GOLD, but I much prefer the tone he created then Raimi. There are plenty of things I like and dislike in both series.

I'm not sure what this means. They don't have to, just bring out NYC's personality more. I hope you're not one of those guys that thinks putting more authenticity and realism into Spider-Man shouldn't happen. These films should have more of a street vibe/ organic feel to them. Ever since Raimi's films, there is this sense among some fans that a Spider-Man film cannot veer too far off from his interpretation, to which I say bull*****. It's the reason I was so up for this reboot. Unfortunately the new film fell short for me.

I would like the comic frame removed from these films as much as possible. I love how Singer did it and I appreciated Nolan doing it as well it. I'd like much more of that in a Spider-Man film. Webb did it somewhat in TASM, but not enough for me. Some like it the other way as we saw in the Avengers (which I liked) and Raimi's films. It just comes down to individual taste.

Me too. The only thing I've seen that I have reservations about is Max Dillon's look. Whatever's been saidd about it has been said to death I'm sure.

It seems that with most trilogies you either get a solid first entry, then an excellent second with an abysmal third; or a solid first entry and then the 2nd and 3rd are not as good as the first with either of those being just ok or abysmal.

It's always been my hope that with this series we instead see a progressive curve where each entry is better than the one before it. So, in short, it's kinda a worry that let's say ASM2 is this awesomely mind-blowing experience, we'll be faced with another dismal third film. If they could make them so they just keep getting better and pushing the boundary...I think that would be the best result. Not easy to do of course.

Or you get Nolan's Batman series, with a great first entry, an outstanding second entry, and a very good but flawed third entry.

Even though I disagree with your assessment of those movies, even in your example the movies peaked at the 2nd entry and there is a decline afterwards. It's my hope that they move away from that trap and create movies that get progressively better so we don't have that drop in quality.

CBM trilogies especially it seems to go 2 > 1 > 3

Blade
Spider-Man
Nolan Bats
X-Men

Iron Man, Superman and the original Batman trilogy seem to go on a steady decline with 1 > 2 > 3

Iron Man 3 > Iron Man 2
Pepper and Rhodes are cool in the third movie, really annoying in the second

The Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy and the Dark Knight Trilogy remain tied for best CBM trilogy.

Both suffer from the translation same issues, and both have very good but underrated first film, universally praised second film (in one way or another), and a less than stellar third film.

I rewatched TDKR recently and to me, it's up there with TDK.

I watched TDKR recently as well, lesser quality than TDK is, but it is a pretty good one

I felt that the Raimi series, whilst slightly stylized in some areas, felt organic enough in their use of on-location exteriors for critical scenes.

Obviously, we have different views on what constitutes the portrayal of NYC as feeling "organic", but I do agree that any portrayal of the character of Spider-Man should strive to represent a "realistic" enivornment.

It's all contextual as well. What worked for one character or story might not work for another. Personally, I loved the NYC presented in SM1 and SM2 as well as Gotham city in TDK.

Anno lurks these forms HARD. Hi Anno!

Agreed. Though i'd side with Spidey more as i'm more of a Spidey fan and Gotham had alot of character in Batman Begins and it was lost in the rest.

What was her actual last post? Or are you serious lmao? That'd be hilarious if that's how she went out.

No, simply a bit of fun. He had no idea death was coming.

Blink twice if Anno is standing behind you with a lethal weapon.

Hahahahahha!! :woot:

*his
*her

if you ask me

I still think it's pretty obvious that he just said that he's a girl to get attention, to see our reaction. He's narcissistic in that way.

I'm just going to refer Anno as "it" from now on considering it's gender is unknown. I feel like I'm talking about a Pokemon.

TASM2 should have:
Characters and Setting of TASM
No Camp like TASM
Cast of TASM

A story, villain and action as good as SM2

There you have a TDK quality SM movie

Sorry, but I feel like every Spider-Man film we see should have heart, charm, and campiness (not a lot, but just enough to know it can be fun).

Campiness =/= being lighthearted, having a fun element, having heart, or charm

That being said, I don't think campiness should belong in a modern Spider-Man film.

Having a little fun and humour isn't Camp to me.

Having a lot of fun and too much humour is what is Camp.
