Upcoming Action Star Takes Role in 'The Darkness'

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

We're being told that Channing Tatum (Fighting, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Public Enemies) has been cast in The Pang Brothers' (The Eye) latest genre effort, The Darkness. Based on the on the Garth Ennis ("Preacher") David Wohl and Mark Silvestri comic, on the eve of his 21st birthday, Jackie was targeted for assassination by the don of the New York mafia, "Uncle" Paulie. He finds his body possessed by "the Darkness" , a malevolent spirit that has inhabited his family for several generations, with the benefit of giving Jackie supernatural powers that feeds off the dark.

Sigh of relief that tatum isn't playing Cap or anyone like that.

Stop hiring this guy, Hollywood. He sucks. Maybe he'll get better, but for now, no. Bad, Hollywood, bad.

Well better him on The Darkness then something I care about a lot more.

I mean, I actually like The Darkness a lot, but I'm not super enamored by it.

I've only see the Pangs American stuff and I got to say, terrible. Tatum is the same as well. The Darkness so far does not sound good.

Watch the original The Eye. Maybe that will give you some hope. I'm going to tell everyone what I've been saying at the TC boards. Don't worry Marc Silvestri wouldn't let any actor play Jackie unless he knew that they could diliver same with the director selection. TC hasn't let me down yet from there telivision, to anime, to movies. I'll give this the benifit of the doubt.

I actually don't think Channing Tatum is that bad. :o :oldrazz:

^ He's actually pretty good in 'Guide to Recognising Your Saints', imo.

I've always thought The Darkness would be a great movie. I loved in the game when Jackie was trapped in The Darkness in the trenches of WWI. Really disturbing and visceral images. I think this film could be a great little cult hit, as long as it is not watered down AT ALL.

this is pretty bad casting may be as bad as Nicholas cage as ghost rider tatum has not 1 characteristic that resembles Jackie in look or character

should of went with Ben foster specifically his look from hostage

Estacado is supposed to be a pretty boy playboy though. Ben Foster couldn't do that, no way.

You'd be wrong. The person who resembles Jackie the most by far is Milo Ventimiglia! He should have been cast! He even works for TC. But again Tatum isn't that awful IMO.

you may be right but the directors and crap as is the lead actor

Glad to see, Ben Fost getting love. I think he's the next great villian depending on what character they cast him as...someone insane and pyscho to be specific.

Wait guys what are we complaining about at least they didn't cast outside of race:cough The Last Air Bender and Prince of Persia cough:.

It's so weird when you get Asian (I'm assuming that the Pangs came from Hong Kong cinema) directors coming to American and completely bomb.

Take John Woo for example: most of his American movies are completely watered down from his style and tone.

It's not really that weird.

American movie studio's think the Asian style is too ****ed up for western audiences. They take away the individuality of the directors, which is ironic because that must of been what got them noticed in the first place.

American movie studio's only give freen reign to those who are guaranteed to make money whether it's crap or not. That's not just Fox, like some people seem to think, but all studios.

Well, considering that these idiots cast the talentless Jessica Alba in a lead role, I guess it's no surprise that they would cast an "actor" who is equally worthless in this movie.

I've never even heard of "The Darkness" but I feel sorry for it's fans... no one should have to suffer through Channing Turdem in anything. How the hell he gets cast in anything is beyond me.
