Chapter 18 - "Like Any Parasite" - Clip(s) & Discussion

ONOZ!!!

Anyway to answer the hiro continuity error look no further than future hiro's first appearance on the show to tell you that. Youtube it. He wasn't in the past that long to do any kind of real change but, to give peter into. He even mentioned it to peter that he couldn't stay long or it would cause a rift. There you go.

Oh man that episode was awesome. I literally shouted "I can't wait til April!" after it ended.

I have some questions... not exactly related to tonight's episode, but have there been any explanations about the Haitian's supposed power-blocking power. Like why didn't he stop the radioactive man last week? Why couldn't he stop Peter from jumping off the building? If Peter is immune, then did he absorb those powers too? Can he then nullify Sylar's powers?

And I guess relating to tonight's episode, can Peter not undo Simone's death? After all he did come into contact with Future Hiro.

The problem with all these powers is that it's hard to coordinate them all and make events you want happen to happen w/o bringing into question... well couldn't he have just used his power to do this? Anyway, I'm mainly just wondering what happened to the Haitian's supposed power-blocking power.

I love this show. Missy's hot, I hope she sticks around.

Well I think the shoplifting thing was a cry for attention. As for her being the mastermind behind the Haitian, I think that can be explained because her husband worked closely with Linderman and through him, probably learned of somethings like the Haitian, so she probably knew how to get in contact with him and convince him to help her. It's all speculation though.

with this new revelation of her being the person behind the hatian, i cant imagine someone in that position needing a cry for attention...i'd figure quite the opposite actually. it juswt seemed like a conflict of character to me.

great episode though. and thanks for that recap.

can anyone do a recap of the scenes for the next episode coming in april? or if its easier just direct me to a clip. thanks guys.

i also like how sylar basically told mohinder who he was during their conversation if anyone caught that. Priceless.

eh? that explain why why Ando was still at the restaurant and Hiro wasn't.

why is everyone referring to the new girl as a shapeshifter? it looked more like she was creating illusions cuz when you look at the screen the whole room sort of ripples when she reveals herself.

Exactly. I guess she can be called an Illusionist if anything

Great ep with several storylines being advanced. The Ma Petrelli revelation was great and it came out of nowhere. The Linderman screen time was cool too.

Thank Zeus Simone is still dead.

This hiatus sucks though. :down

The Illusionist, as played by Missy Peregrym, is indeed a hottie... anyone got any screenshots of her in her skirt? That was a nice skirt...

Indeed it was. Another bright spot in an absolutely stellar episode. Right now, it's my second favourite behind the episode where Sylar killed the other cheerleader.

She's an illusionist. She did an interview on Attack of the Show and said as much. No shape shifting, just able to make you see whatever she wants.

She's definietely an illustionist. A shape changer could only change the way she looked, not make Simone disappear behind her.

Great episode. Lots of twists and surprises. Looks like when the show renews, Hiro gets to meet Future Hiro, which will be bad ass.

I think that no matter what they do, they wont be able to stop the destruction of New York. Seemed like it was kind of suggested that the future can't be changed when Hiro couldn't save the waitress in Texas.

Ok ,this may take a while to explain so strap in... (all theory but there's logic behind it)

1. This show screams FATE in huge letters all the time.

  • Hiro Couldn't save charlie
  • Claude Just Happens to bump into peter at just the right time
  • The way everyone is connected
  • The global eclipse is the uniting event that kickstarts a massive rise in the number of heroes
  • The prophetic dreams
  • The random group of individuals drawn together by forces beyond their control
  • Hiro just happening to teleport in to new york at a key moment for the heroes
These are not just random occurences. It screams grand plan

2. You can't change the past, only the future.

All theories on time travel to date indicate that by changing one small thing in the past the future timeline that you would create would mean the probability of the future time traveler ever going back to kickstart the chain of events in the first place is reduced to almost zero.

The time stream has to remain constant at all times, this is why hiro told peter to tell hiro where and when they met. If peter fails to do this hiro will never go back in time and the future will be changed as a result.

3. Claire didn't die in hiro's timeline.

This is the key element. He said "save the cheerleader, save the world". He DIDN'T say the world was taken over/destroyed as a result of Claire's death. This means that in Hiro's timeline claire was key to a major battle that he has already faced. This points in one of two directions, either there's another time-traveler trying to kill her (perhaps pete goes bad, but this unlikely) and thus change the future, or hiro is simply dotting the I's and making sure things happened. The best way to think of this is that once you introduce time travel you have to view each event as having taken place an infinite number of times. I believe it's called a mobius loop. The idea is that hiro was predestined to go back and make sure claire was safe. Otherwise he wouldn't be able to change anything because without claire's presence he might not be alive to go back, hence the whole thing goes screwy.

Therefore it's quite simple really. Hiro goes back as a safeguard to events that have already occured rather than trying to change something, and he was ALWAYS destined to go back.

Also with regards the they didn't save the world?

New York is not the world. My belief is that (as company man illustrated) once ted was injured he couldn't control the radiation. It was as if it was leaking out of him and they had to basically shut down his brain to stop it. However... with claire's healing power peter might be able to take control. Think of it like containment. Peter may end up taking out new york but ted, it has been stated, can make the fat man and little boy look like cherry bombs. The initial explosion is part of the fated timeline, but by controling it he can simply localise the explosion to new york rather than taking out a sizeable chunk of the planet causing destruction that would impact on the planet's ecosystem, orbit, the whole shebang.

Finally, and here's the really interesting part...peter is clearly the key to taking down sylar (and this is where the fate part really comes in) If peter had never been told by hiro to save the cheerleader he never would have met claire, he never would have gained sylars TK. Hell he wouldn't have met half the people he did. So that one event has impacted EVERYTHING. Again remember the first rule of time travel, change one thing, change everything.

So in short

In Hiro's time Claire DID live

New York is NOT the world

Hiro didn't change anything, he just preserved the status quo by fulfilling his destiny

That's the way I see it anyway, feel free to pick holes as you see fit :p

i like that theory (Y)
i would love the next season to be set years after the explosion

Although its an interesting theory I disagree.

The future that Isaac saw of Claire's confrontation with Sylar showed her standing against him alone. That means that at the point in time, the future as it currently was had only Claire in Odessa.

When the actual event occurs Peter is now with her, therefore the future has changed.

If Future Hiro's timeline already featured Claire being saved then Peter would have popped up in Isaac's vision as well.

i think that already happened in homecoming

She was alone in homecoming looking at sylar down the corridor till peter ran up behind her and told herto come with him.

Next :p

Way I saw it was that Sylar was in the middle of "dealing" with Mohinder, when he heard someone come in. So Sylar used his telekensis to pin him up against the ceiling while he dealt with the visiter.
that's exactly how i saw it.

Is it just me or was Sawyer from lost in the airport with claire and the haitin? I remember reading an article to were lost and heroes could be connected. Screenshot later.

If it was sawyer, it was very quick. I missed it. :)
