Charlize Theron teaming with John Wick Directors for 'Atomic Blonde'

The funny thing is the follow up spin off comic based on James McAvoy's character is actually a much better story. Hopefully they adapt that one too.

So from this, we've learnt, the director can A) only make one kind of film and B) oh, stick some lesbian love sex in, that'll get the lads in for the Friday night and opening weekend.

Wait, potential for a McAvoy spinoff/sequel?

Sign me up.

I love how brutal the fights look. Oh and I didn't even know the cast was so awesome :awesome:. I only knew about Charlize.

A little quick to judge, don't you think? :whatever:
Doesn't seem like the same kind of movie. The action and visual style does echo John Wick, which is pretty normal, considering that it's from the same director. But the story and the movie itself look different enough to me.
But it's cool to have a cinematic Nostradamus on these boards, who's already decided (at his second feature film) that David Leitch only knows how to make one kind of film and... how dare he throw some lesbian love sex in? Such as sleazy and low-end thing to do.

Depending on how close they follow the comic and the trailer suggests they are, this will be a far more labryntine plot than John Wick.

Yep, 'cos every Ang Lee film is the same isn't it.... just felt it looks like a re-hash with a female protagonist. As much as I love JW 1&2, I'd want to see something different, plus everyone says the opening fight looks 'special' to me. it looks slow, hackneyed and as if it was a rehearsal as the actor's movement is way too pedestrian.

Even between his most different movies, I could spot a John McTiernan movie from a mile away. Because he has a distinct visual style. And so do other directors. And the man has made such diverse movies as Predator, Die Hard, The Hunt For Red October, Medicine Man, Last Action Hero and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Same with James Cameron, who's got a distinct style, but the Terminator movies, The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic and Avatar sure aren't the same.

And the same applies here. You can spot David Leitch's distinct style, and both John Wick and this movie are action movies. But a rehash with a female protagonist? I don't see it, man. It looks like a pretty different kind of movie and story to me.

But hey, maybe you'll like his next John Wick rip-off starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool more.

I'm sorry I'm not ready to fawn over the 'director' choice of the moment but I appreciate it may not be for me and I absolutely guarantee I won't be watching DP2.

I don't know, asking Stahelski and Leitch to not go away from action seems like a bad idea. They are former stuntmen, and they know action in a way many directors won't know.

I couldn't care less if you fawn or if you watch Deadpool 2. More power to you, dude.
And it doesn't have anything to do with him being "director choice of the moment." I'm just genuinely impressed with his directorial debut and this trailer. To each his own.
But I just can't see how one can call it a female John Wick rip-off, when it seems to be its own beast.
There's a huge difference between "one kind of movie" and directorial style shining through (and I think my two examples were enough).

What about Shane Black? He can only make one type of film. Should he never work again?

If he continues to make them to the quality of IM3 then no he shouldn't.

Yeah, well...

:whatever:

Just stick to Ang Lee movies then. You shouldn't be exposed to all this Hollywood mainstream crap.

Oooh boy, didn't think there would be a heated back-n-forth here.

As much as I love JW 1&2, I'd want to see something different, plus everyone says the opening fight looks 'special' to me. It looks slow, hackneyed and as if it was a rehearsal as the actor's movement is way too pedestrian.

And as much as this trailer excites me, I actually agree with that last sentence.
Hoping the full fight is overall better.

This isn't the director of Wick 2 right? This is the other director?

As to the fighting, yeah it looks a bit slow and rehearsed. But then again, as awesome as Charlize is, Keanu has quite a bit too do with the quality of John Wick's fight scenes. The old man still has it.
