Child's Play remake

Well, I liked how Chucky's main goal was trying to find a new body. With this, I guess he'd just simply wants to kill people.

Well.....it would be interesting to see how that’s flipped. What if the AI actually wants to become human?

I feel such ideas have been explored moreso in sci-fi stories than in horror one such as this.

Yeah I like the idea of Chucky becoming overprotective of Andy that he wants to kill everyone and keep Andy for himself.

Remake looks very "meh"

And what's up with the guy they cast as Andy? He looks like he's in hi teens

New interview with Aubrey Plaza, where she discusses the film a bit:

You're starring in the remake of Child's Play.

Buckle up. I love it so much. To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven't seen our film, just the trailer, but it's a real throwback horror movie. It's almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it. The reason I did it was for how beautiful the script was. It doesn't feel like a hokey, shticky, campy movie. If you remember the original Child's Play, it was a drama! It wasn't that funny. As the franchise went on, it became something else. The remake really captures the original.

Have you previously done much acting with …

An evil murder doll? No. I play Karen, the mother, and I have less interaction with Chucky than the actor who plays my son does. I can't reveal too much. We're not supposed to talk about Chucky. It builds for Karen in a way that I'm interacting with Chucky by the end, but I'm mostly dealing with my son — who I almost believe is behind the mayhem. The horror of it all will be for the audience. For me, it's more of a psychological thriller.

And this time it's AI gone awry, not a doll possessed by a dead serial killer?

I would only do certain remakes. This is smart. The messaging behind the film is different. Technology becomes the villain. That's a real thing that I can get behind. It scares the **** out of me.

I like what she's saying about it being in the spirit of the original with not much humor and being more horror.

There was a test screening in California last night and a few of my friends attended. They all said they loved it and the crowd was quite lively (laughing and jumping at all the right parts lol). There’s been a few people online who hated it, going as far as calling it “Trash” and “Garbage”. My friends chalked that up to bitter and overly biased “purists” though lol. They said this was the best remake out of the other heavy weights (Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween).

I have a ton of spoilers but I’ll keep it really light out of respect for those who don’t want to know....

Turns out the earlier rumors were true that a disgruntled factory employee messes with the dolls codes and sets it to “unsafe”. The film opens in Vietnam where the Buddi dolls are all made. The film seems to take the tag-line “He wants you for a best friend” literally, meaning Chucky actually wants Andy all for himself and doesn’t like people getting to close to him and threatens or kills those who he views as potential threats to his “friendship” (more like attachment lol).

I was told the film is still in its rough stages as you could see all the wires and puppeteers still in the shots as they moved Chucky around lol.

Yes, he swears in it lol.

The audience was also told by the studio rep that Chucky will in fact be voiced by an A-list Star, but they haven’t made their identity public knowledge yet and they still
have yet to record all their lines. Chucky is basically an evil version of Alexa. They said he was both brutal and hilarious lol.

I love that that would even be an option. Reminds me of this...

Sounds good to me!

Can we get a bit more info about Chuckys personality? I think thats the biggest mystery we all have now is just what this Chucky is like? Outside the swearing. Is he mechanical and robotic..or does he have a personality?

That spoiler lines up with how I wanted Chucky to react to other people in Andy's life. Absolutely perfect.

Just saw childs play for the first time. This movie was great. The scene where the batteries fall out was legitimately scary. A-

Oh God ya - that fireplace scene! That thing gave me nightmares for years when I was young.

Two video breakdowns on the test screenings. Don't worry, there's nothing too major. A lot of the stuff @kickass mentioned lines up!

I was told he’s more of a robot than a “doll”. If Alexa were a toy, so to speak. You hook him up to your WiFi or whatever and he does stuff for you (acts as your alarm in the morning, turns on things, etc...). The voice was provided by like, 5 different people because it was the puppeteers reading the lines to the actors lol. My friend believes he’ll maintain one voice throughout the film (those YouTube review videos that were posted mention they’ll be 2 voices and my friend says that was never mentioned lol). Chucky also doesn’t have full-on conversations in this, like he does in all the other films. He speaks a sentence or two here and there through out the film but he never monologues like Chucky is known to do. He moves around like the characters in Team America move (this can all be changed for what we know; Chucky still has all the wires and strings moving him about in the shots).

My friend urges the fact that it’s unfair to judge the film completely because they know things will change and be fixed or altered in some way. They said it’s hard to gouge how scary Chucky was in the screening when he’s sneaking around and a guy is holding him in the background as they run across the screen LOL

I watched this and I can’t help but feel there’s some bias at play here. My friends said the attendance was around 200 at the theatre and the film got a lot of people to laugh and scream at all the right moments. They thought this was definitely better than Seed, Curse, and Cult. They thought it had a similar type of humor and feel as Bride of Chucky. Of course with anything, opinions vary.

There was a questionnaire handed out to audience members afterwards that basically just said “What was your favorite scene and least favorite scene and why? What did you like or dislike about the ending?”

My friends also say there was no mention of Chucky having 2 separate voices in the film, contrary to these videos, and judging from his dialogue it seems it will just be the one voice throughout. So I’m expecting this mystery A-list actor to just sound modified as a Siri type voice

I so want to see this version of the film with the puppeteers. Lol!

Maybe they just got confused with Chucky’s voice as if there were multiple people reading his lines.

Even though I may never see this, I'm extremely curious to find out who's voicing Chucky and why they're still keeping it a secret.

Probably somebody famous.
