Guys, I understand people are upset, and I am as well. But honestly, no one on this board knows why the negotiations stalled. We only have what Fiege said, and what Norton's publicist said. The truth is probably somewhere in between.
This isn't about only wanting "yes" men, but you have for all intents and purposes a rookie director, and he has to have controll over the film making process. Ed cannot have the kind of input he had on TIH.
Evans and Hemsworth are probably just happy to be along for the ride, and RDJ just loves being in movies. If Norton's going to insist on creative control, that could cause a huge issue.
I agree Kevin Fiege was an idiot for dragging this out into the public, the way he did, and I don't blame Norton's people for reacting, but Avengers is very much about creating an ensemble cast.
Also please stop bringing Terrance Howard into every argument. Cheadle was great in IM2, and Terrance was great in IM1.
As far as this costing Marvel money, that's rediculous. The big expense in CG is creating the software to allow the Hulk to look/move the way he does. That's already been developed for two films. If anything this saved Marvel money because dispite what Fiege said, I think money probably was involved. To what extent, no one but God, Kevin Fiege, Ed Norton and the lawyers know.
I like Ed Norton, but losing him is not the same as if they lost RDJ.
First off you have to ask why wasn't Norton signed to a multi-picture deal when he made TIH, if they or he wanted it that much. He even said on the DVD commentary that he was very reluctant to do the roll in the first place, because he wanted it to be done a certain way.
I feel bad that this didn't work out, but honestly trashing Joaquin Phoenix because of something that didn't work out with Norton is not fair.
