wow, and I thought Marvel was bigger than this. I seriously thought they were above and beyond Sony and Fox, especially Fox

seems like all 3 companies share the same mindstate in that they're willing to sacrifice their own work for their ego's if you don't directly kiss their ass

and it's THAT mindstate that's going to keep THIS particular fan far far away from their movies in the future.

Marvel and co. are wasting a tonne of money with this move.

Not only in possible income from fan reaction, but they'll have to go through the whole design process again for Hulk, as well as the cost of a whole new CGI model of Hulk, and the new actor.

With most every other main character they will have all that work done from their solo films.

They'll have to design a new face, because the last one had nortons likeness.

What a great and classy thing Norton did writing that. He clearly was passionate about the character and cared about the fans. The fact he is disapointed that we are says alot. Fiege is just doing whatever. I can understand their point of view and not wanting to deal with it, but still. What Fiege said was totally unprofessional. He seemed like a producer who seemed cool, but with this? Jesus, Fiege, all you could have said were creative differences. Norton wanted more out of the Hulk as a character I presume but Marvel wouldn' have it?

He met with Whedon and everything. Norton clearly wanted to be in this. I'm siding with Norton on this one.

This is stupid by the way. And Kevin Fiege sucks.

CHUD is reporting that Marvel has been looking into Joaquin Phoenix. Great effin' job Marvel Studios.

In the special features they said they didn't want to make it look like Norton, and instead just take the best looks of the character from the comics. They only correlated his face to Hulk's for the animation, which doesn't necessitate using his likeness.

And even if it were, redesigning his face only would be very minimal and not cost a lot. It's not like his ripped, veiny body was based on Norton's, so no need for remodeling or redesigns there. Hulk's design is the least of my concerns.

and you won't like hopefulsuicide when he's angry!

Yup.

See i'm getting more and more scared on behalf of Joss, on his first huge break into big budget cinema, being basically told what to do by a bunch of *****e bags...

Yeah, let me just say that I think the way that Marvel and Kevin Fiege handled this was about as classless as you can get. I understand why a studio might be hesitant to work with an actor again due to prior difficulties. I get that. And I know Norton, at times can be jerk when he doesn't get his way (just ask the people who did The Italian Job).

But despite all that, when you have a talented actor who has said, multiple times, that he'd be interested in coming back, and even went so far as to issue a very respectful statement about the dispute rumors (back when TIH) came out, there's no reason to publicly slam the guy.

That being said, I like a lot of the names that have come up here... if Phoenix is done with his "rapper phase," I think he'd be an inspired choice. I've always liked him as an actor and I think that this could be a great comeback for him. I also like Adrien Brody, Sharlto Copley and Casey Affleck for the role.

I like how everytime an unknown, or an actor that isn't that big in Hollywood, plays in ONE great film and people say they should play in everything.

I say no on Copley. He doesn't even have the look for Banner.

I'm pretty mystified by the sudden obsession with Copley. Now I haven't seen A-Team, but I did see District 9 and I wasn't all that impressed with the dude.

Mileage, vary, yours, etc.

I created an image of multiple actors that have been suggested in this forum as possibilities for replacing Edward Norton. I tried my best to get images of these actors that I felt personified Banner in appearance as much as possible. I also tried to have them turned in the same direction as the photo I used of Norton, so that we can see which actors look most like him and would overall create the best continuity in his absence. I realize that an actors resemblance to the comic character or that of the previous actor that portrayed that character are not necessarily the only important things. I realize one's acting ability plays a very important roll as well. However, since I don't know many of these individuals and their acting abilities, appearance is all I have to go by. Hopefully this might help other people as well that are not familiar with most of these actors to vote. I apologize if I left anybody's choice for a replacement out, but feel free to add to it. :yay:

Don't forget, Favreau, Rourke and Jackson almost walked.

Marvel and especially Feige want a bunch of Yes Men, I bet if RDJ hadn't become the star he became we may have been seeing another Tony Stark for the Avengers with as much input he puts in and money he demands.

Don't forget that they hired Favreau in the first place because he was cheap and was new to the game of big Hollywood movies. It's easier to deal with things that way. I don't know how much of their finger prints were on Iron Man 2 but it looked like a movie with a lot involvement from different parties, done by commity.

You forgot the best choice, Jason Patric! :woot:

No to all of them, and definitely no to Adrian "big nose" Brody. We don't want Hulk to end up looking like a green version of Gonzo when he transforms.

I know people like to blame other parties for any flaws in IM2, but Favs and RDJ have said that since the first was such a hit that Marvel was very hands-off the second time around and let them do their own thing.

Guys, I understand people are upset, and I am as well. But honestly, no one on this board knows why the negotiations stalled. We only have what Fiege said, and what Norton's publicist said. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

This isn't about only wanting "yes" men, but you have for all intents and purposes a rookie director, and he has to have controll over the film making process. Ed cannot have the kind of input he had on TIH.

Evans and Hemsworth are probably just happy to be along for the ride, and RDJ just loves being in movies. If Norton's going to insist on creative control, that could cause a huge issue.

I agree Kevin Fiege was an idiot for dragging this out into the public, the way he did, and I don't blame Norton's people for reacting, but Avengers is very much about creating an ensemble cast.

Also please stop bringing Terrance Howard into every argument. Cheadle was great in IM2, and Terrance was great in IM1.

As far as this costing Marvel money, that's rediculous. The big expense in CG is creating the software to allow the Hulk to look/move the way he does. That's already been developed for two films. If anything this saved Marvel money because dispite what Fiege said, I think money probably was involved. To what extent, no one but God, Kevin Fiege, Ed Norton and the lawyers know.

I like Ed Norton, but losing him is not the same as if they lost RDJ.

First off you have to ask why wasn't Norton signed to a multi-picture deal when he made TIH, if they or he wanted it that much. He even said on the DVD commentary that he was very reluctant to do the roll in the first place, because he wanted it to be done a certain way.

I feel bad that this didn't work out, but honestly trashing Joaquin Phoenix because of something that didn't work out with Norton is not fair.

Sorry Stripesy Strip, I didn't mean to forget Jason Patric.:yay: Feel free to add him if you would like, by copying the image, adding the actor to the image and reposting it with him in it. I also saw that someone else had thought Steve Buscemi would have been good for the roll, but I was unfortunately already too far along on posting things when I saw it.
As for Night Raven's comment about none of these choices being good. Hey don't shoot me. I am just showing people the choices that have been most frequently selecting as possible replacements on this thread. Instead of saying no to all, why don't you tell us who you would like to see play Hulk in Edward Nortons absence. Or even better you could go a step further and take the image and add the actor that you would like to see as to further the discussion and make your point. Just a thought.:yay:

in the event this is all true, i'd vote for copley (watch A team, he stole the show as the crazy weakling)

but i still think this is all a hoax, a publicity stunt, so that we can be all flabbergasted when norton shows up in the avengers panel. i'm not being delusional, just, i have a hunch this is all made up. a deluge of bad press just weeks before comic con?

i call shennanigans
