he is an amazing choice. the only problem i would have is that he is japanese. the mandarin is chinese. but hey shang tsung was also a chinese charecter.

i dont know he might have chinese in him but i know for sure he is japanese. and he lives by me. HAWAII! lol

If they were to go with an idea like this:

He doesn't have to wear it constantly, but I think that later in the movie he should don the robes just to showcase how drunk with power and insane he's gotten due to the rings. He wants to take over the world, but in the books he's tried to sabotage and steal Stark technology to do so, so making him a business rival as well would be plausible.

Then I'd be 100% behind this guy for the role:

Tony Leung from Infernal Affairs, 2046, Hero, Hard Boiled

He is considered by many to be the finest actor of his generation in Hong Kong. Robert de Niro, who is an admirer of his work, has called Leung Asia's answer to Clark Gable.

Leung speaks impeccable English and is well read and well versed on historic issues. During the late 1990's, some predicted that it would be difficult for him to break into Hollywood since he would not take on degrading roles because of his pride and character. To date, he has not done a Hollywood movie, but is primed to appear in one after signing on with an American film agent.

Nnnnooo. I'd like to see him as The Cat in a Shang Chi movie or something but that's about it...maybe Sunfire...Not Mandarin though.

I do like the choice of Andy Lau though. Virtually an unknown and can be a damn mean bastard. Takagawa would be too...stereotypical. He pretty much places nothing but characters like these.

Not really....It's only a problem for Japanese/Chinese people because there is so much animosity between the two. Swedes can play French, Italians, Russians, Germans and you wouldn't hear a single complaint and nobody would say Hey he doesnt look _____.

Perhaps a poll with all three to choose from? I agree with you though. Watanbe's appearance in Batman is too soon and Chow is perhaps a bit too tall/thin? This is a great comparison photo!
