Chris Benoit Dead

Well, what I'm seeing so far is people's affinity for this man's "great career" overshadowing what has apparently happened.

We have to be very careful that our love for a celebrity doesn't move us to rationalize gross crimes against humanity. I can already see from what I've read on the internet that people's loyalties are misplaced. All they're focusing on is his wrestling greatness. Well, what about other losses?

What people are missing is that someone's daugher, daughter-in-law, friend, perhaps sister was killed. That someone's nephew, grandson, brother and childhood friend was snuffed out.

Therefore, when I put it in perspective, I don't give a damn about this man's wrestling career at this point. That's all null and void. What he's done NOW is what needs to be considered.

I'm shocked to hear this as the next guy, but I'm confused how adults in this thread can't face the reality. The only person you "knew" was the entertainer on television and in the ring. The guy was known to live a very private life. He kept lot of his problems to himself. The guys had a history of abusing his spouse. Those incidents of spousal abuse, threats, drug use, etc.........that's the REAL him. Not the acting he does on television for a few minutes.

Right exactly. People still can't seem to grasp that. They still say his fellow wrestlers should have known, but then they said it themselves, Benoit was a very private guy. Dean Malenko said it best "If everything around Chris was falling apart, you could never tell by looking at him."

I'm just trying to wrap my head around the situation. It still doesn't make sense to me at all, and maybe it never will. Out of all the things I felt about Benoit there's no way I would've thought he would be a murderer.

It should never make sense to kill your own child. It never makes sense doing that. There is no understanding it.

I get the impression that you're unable to separate Benoit the character from the actor who portrayed him. it's like not being able to understand how OJ could murder his ex-wife because Nordberg from the Naked Gun would never kill anyone.

Agreed, the only reason people feel sorry for this bastard is because he entertained them with his steroid laced antics. We should find a way to bring him back to life just so we can kill him again.

I never even liked him as a wrestler (great technical wrestler, but boring wrestling personality), but I still feel sorry for EVERYONE involved in this, and for the people that looked up to him only to have his story end this way.

once again.

Yeah, I don't get this crap about people admiring the character he played. Whether he was playing a bad guy or a good guy, he was an angry, fierce, wrestler. He wasn't handsome and disarming like Ted Bundy. He was a short, ugly, ripped, hardworking man who was skilled in what he did, and was friendly to fans.

BINGO!
It's about time that someone gave the wrestling fans here a wake up call.
Benoit was just acting, none of us knew how screwed up he was.

So he was a murdering bastard...what a shame.

And to think, WWE aired a tribute to this piece of crap last night. I hope that on Smackdown they DENOUNCE that decision, in light of the new developments. And maybe even condemn Benoit.

Actually, the people that knew him in person are just as shocked that he could do something like this as his fans are.

Friendly to fans? I met Chris Benoit at a WWF house show(it was still WWF back then) back when I was into wrestling. And he was very unfriendly with me.

The plan right now is for ECW and Smackdown to be just matches with no storylines and no mention of Chris.
WWE has already taken his name off all of their dvd's and other merchandise, no more shirts of him are being sold, they've pretty much disassoiated themselves with him completely as of now.

Yeah, you really don't know how screwed up someone is until they are strangling you.

WWE aired it because at the time all that was available that him and his wife and son were dead. Two hours into the tribute though, police cmae forward with the theory (now true) that it was a Double-murder-suicide.

Yeah, I imagine that Bret Hart isn't feeling too good right now.

Indeed. I can't imagine how it feels for someone you love and admire to turn out like this.

The Ultimate Warrior is a childhood hero of mine and he's let me down pretty bad over the years, but never anywhere near to this extent (thank God).

I also wonder what Kevin Sullivan thinks. Seeing as how Chris stole his wife Nancy from Sullivan...

I know.

maybe you were annoying.

LOL. Nah. It was at a show, its not like I was bothering him while he was going about his daily business. And he wasn't in the middle of doing anything. He had just came out from the back and was standing at the back of the audience watching the match, and all I did was say "hi Chris" and shook his hand. And he showed no appreciation, he was very cold when he shook my hand and gave me the feeling he was annoyed. I didn't even bug him for an autograph or a picture or anything.

I really, really, really hope it took a long time for that son of a bi** to die! REST IN NOTHINGNESS BENOIT. You peice of sh**!!!
