Sci-Fi Chris Pratt joins The Tomorrow War

It lost me with the draft. Americans and Muricans in particular would burn this country down before theyd go along with a draft to fight in some absurd future alien war. America is supposed to drop everything and spend money, resources, and lives to go through a portal to a supposed future to fight aliens with the last remnants of humans?

God this looks cheap and bland as hell which is suprising to me given all the talent involved, but sadly I''ll probably still give it a chance if I have nothing else better to do or watch.

This screams streaming movie though because I saw nothing in that trailer that looked cinematic or must see on a bigscreen even with the amount of good actors in it and CGI destruction everywhere.

Something felt really off about Chris Pratt's performance/line delivery in the trailer too, but maybe its from how its edited atleast that's what I'm hoping and it also sucks seeing Betty Gilpin being wasted in this as just some stay at home wife when she's already proven how much of a badass she can be.

This felt like Parks and Rec Chris Pratt.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't buy Sam Richardson as an action star.

I have a suspicion that Yvonne's character is going to be revealed as his daughter in the future.

When did everyone start to sour on Chris Pratt? Is it his schtick which some have said is Ryan Reynolds lite? I really thought he'd be the next action star, but apparently he may go the way of Gerard Butler according to some.

Unfortunately because he is more open about his religion than most Hollywood and goes to a church that isn’t as liberal, he’s been assumed to be some sort of deep state conservative.

Or maybe because Starlord let his anger get the best of him, resulting in Thanos winning and snapping half the universe into dust.

I wont lie, im soured on him Completely with his whole religion nonsense and stuff.
But when his career started to take off, i noticed very early on that he isnt all that what i expected him to be.
Outside of Starlord, i found his acting very bland and Forgetable...his whole presence on screen and stuff seems to only work for Starlord.
Other than that, he doesnt seem to have a lot to offer to me simply.

He just needs to pick better roles. He's very likable and charismatic even from his dramatic Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty Days but he might end up being pigeonholed as the reverse Jai Courtney if he doesn't watch himself. He doesn't need to do these star driven action movies. It might help him if he digs more into the smaller dramatic films.

As for Pratt. I think people are just burned out from his performances. They're not really stellar or out of the box.

It's the same stoic/laid back/Whoa dude chill performance. All his characters are basically GI-Joe action figures.

He's even got a military background in this movie. He needs a "Cherry" or "Taxi Driver" type of role to shake things up. Play an abusive husband or something different.

There's technology they can take and learn from most likely.

Yeah I think Pratt’s appeal is souring on people because his action hero characters are all pretty much the same. And when he doesn’t have a talented writer like James Gunn writing him quippy one-liners, he’s just not that interesting. I’ll gladly watch Quill in more Guardians movies, but I don’t ever need to see his Jurassic World character again. Even his character in Passengers felt like Quill-lite. I know there are some movie stars like Harrison Ford who didn’t have tremendous range throughout their careers but they still varied their performances enough that it didn’t just feel like the same guy being dropped into a bunch of different worlds.

I don't think I could even get over the premise. It fails the refrigerator test pretty much from the trailer. "So. . . why are they bringing people forward in time, rather than bringing information back so as to spend decades prepping to fight the war? Its not like what they are doing isn't already a massive timeline changer, so what gives?"

Unlike previous time travel movies where it’s done covertly(12 monkeys) or personal(terminator) the future soldiers decide to just tell the whole world.

wouldn’t that cause a major paradox?

This premise has so much potential and then, instead of traveling through history to gather the greatest warriors of all time... they're drafting random people from just 30 years ago? I'll be watching for Yvonne Strahovski and Sam Richardson, but this would be so much better if they'd actually committed to the bit. Give me cowboys, samurai, vikings, etc... thrown into a futuristic alien invasion. Not Chris Pratt playing himself from a slightly less futuristic future.

^^^ This. he just doesn't put effort into his recent work. He found one thing that worked in GOTG and hasn't moved outside that box since. And there are so many actors who could do these roles better, but Hollywood keeps going back to him. Like, get Damon Wayans, Zachary Levi, Jake Johnson, Donald Glover, etc... They can all do quippy, laid-back leading man and still make it feel different.

Regarding Henry, Working Girl, Sabrina, Hanover Street.....hell, even Mosquito Coast, Frantic, Six Days and Seven Nights.

I know female friends of mine who grew up with Ana Farris hate him for divorcing her that could have played a part in his popularity declining

Replaying Mass Effect and yes Yvonne Strahovski isn't in enough things lol

So I just watched this. Mildly enjoyed it - not quite as generic as I expected from the trailer - but good god, everyone please just stop hiring Chris Pratt to play these serious action heroes. He's absolutely terrible and unconvincing at it. Hell, even before we got to the "war" stuff here, he wasn't even a convincing as a high school teacher. Yvonne Strahovski carried the emotional weight of this movie on her damn shoulders, which definitely shouldn't have been the case given the script/structure.

He plays a teacher in this? Lol, is he more or less convincing than Mark Wahlberg was when he played a teacher in The Happening?
