Documentary/Biopic Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer

It’s baffling it’s been damn near 20 years… and then I remember that all of the DCEU has happened and we’ve got Pattinson cookin’ along.

Crazy.
Yup. When I was a kid I used to wonder how it felt to remember things from 20+ years ago. Now that I'm in my 30s, it's kind of a scary feeling how long ago things feel. Batman Begins feels longer than 20 years for me.

I don't know about that. It feels like just yesterday I was in college seeing Batman Begins in theaters. It seems like just yesterday I was a small child watching Batman 89 in theaters and at home on VHS. And yet here I am closing in on age 39 in about 9 months. SMH LOL

Well I guess being 12 at the time makes it feel longer for me but maybe its different for people that were a little older. Heck, I was a teen when TDK came out and even that feels long ago too. Maybe it's also because of how much has happened in my life since those years.

The older you get the faster time flies. Since you are younger, you have a lot of those teenager and coming of adulthood milestones between you and those movies, which makes it feel longer. Once you get past those, time kinda blurs together. At least that is my experience.

This finally will get a release date here at the end of next month...

Many (rightfully so) expressed concern about the potential this movie glorifying atomic bomb and the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Won't get into deep but here, there is already a petition to boycott this movie.

For me, I am going to just be open minded and see this as a fan of Christopher Nolan's work and not anything else.
Just heard the hype here and with its Oscar momentum, I hope I have a good time watching it.

Has Oppenheimer been available on streaming (or DVD) in Japan? Or will the theatrical release be the first official/legal opportunity for moviegoers?

It hasn't released in any streaming platform of any kind here as far I remember...
Though I believe some has ready imported the US version of 4K but yeah officially, next month release will be the first legal way for Oppenheimer to be able to be watched by masses.

somewhat random, but I have to rant a little. I got the Oppenheimer 4k back on release day, and watched it with zero issues. I was gonna give it yet another rewatch this morning, and it occured to me recently that I should start checking my discs when I get them, so for whatever reason I looked and there's a huge scratch with multiple tiny ones on my Oppenheimer disc. Again, I had no playback issues when I got the film in november, but it's still insane to me that even unopened 4k discs can have scratches on them. I bit the bullet and ordered another one off of amazon. It's the principle of the matter. :o

Without delving into spoilers, let me assure you that the movie does not glorify anything whatsoever (despite what some people on social media might have wrongfully stated) and treats the consequences of the atom bomb quite seriously. Especially one certain scene that I think Nolan did perfectly in depicting the horrifying nature of it all.

That's really strange. Was the disc loose in the case when you got it? Blu-rays/4K discs are typically harder to scratch, at least in comparison to DVDs which would get a scratch if you looked at the disc the wrong way.

Back in the rental (Blockbuster, etc.) days, scratched DVDs were a big issue. Then, the Blu-ray guys claimed to have developed a more durable coating. Happy days! Except… the rental market soon went the way of the dinosaurs. So I wonder if manufacturers went back to the cheaper coating (since scratch resistance was no longer a major concern because owners tend to take better care of their own discs, etc)…

That could be a possibility. I worked in a video store in college and we actually had a disc cleaning machine in the back that was supposed to remove scratches from DVDs. Not only did it not work but it would often render the disc more unreadable than before. :clown:

nope. This has happened on a few brand new 4k's I've gotten. Starship Troopers, Point Break, and now Oppenheimer. So whatever happened must have happened in processing or something.

Ah, Good to know then...thanks for the heads up 🙏

Missed the SAG Awards, but this is great!

Great to see Cillian win. Need momentum for him before the Oscars. Also I love that Best Ensemble award, the Oscars should have an award like that.

They will be having that category starting in 2026. :D

Nice, thanks for that. I particularly love when a whole cast is top quality, complementing each other well and having great chemistry (even if no individual big names). Good to see some common sense being employed.

Apparently, a "best casting" category is being added to the Oscars. I'm not aware that "best ensemble acting" (like the SAG category) is. But I stand to be corrected.
