I didn't know about the uncredited VFX artists but isn't the snub more of a middle finger to the artists that worked on the movie than Nolan himself? He's still going to be nominated for Best Director and Best Picture.

Yeah but not all visual effects are CGI or created with CGI.

Bapi also conveniently chose not to mention the MCU's ongoing mistreatment of its overworked and underpaid VFX artists, so this is not due to some moral ground being taken. The VFX community had no say in this whatsoever otherwise Quantumania wouldn't have been nominated either.

I would be okay with that. Though my favorite film of the year might end up being Past Lives, Oppenheimer is in at least my top five.

Oppenheimer deserves it for its cultural impact. An excellently made, cautionary tale biopic makes a billion dollars in 2023. No other film should receive the top award -- and I'm saying this as someone who preferred Killers of the Flower Moon.

While it's great to see Oppie cement itself as a clear frontrunner for Picture/Director, I also really hope to see it win for adapted screenplay. The task of boiling down such a dense and comprehensive biography into something both faithful and digestible was pretty insane. And Nolan's choice to write the screenplay in the first person is a simple but brilliant way of communicating his vision for the movie. The script is firing on all cylinders- theme, character, structure, dialogue. It's a perfect example of how you can take a novel and totally reinterpret it cinematically. I think it should be a serious contender.

LOL I liked Tenet but that Peloton instructor has a point about needing a manual for it. I had to follow along with the Wikipedia synopsis as I was watching it.

You know you have a script problem when Aaron Taylor Johnson has to use a whiteboard to explain the climax of the story.

Tenet to me is also the type of movie that only a select few directors could get away with making in Hollywood. A lesser known name pitching that same movie would have been shown the door by studio execs and it wouldn't have gotten made. They'll allow a big budget blockbuster that's guaranteed to confuse audiences if there's a big name behind it.
