I kind of looked through the ish thinking, "What strikes me as odd?"

Well, for one thing...

Notice the two panels where Sue and Reed seem to be looking across at each other? Granted, the attention was on a big throwdown but did Sue's stance seem especially defiant on that last page? The other was somewhat of an angle shot but again, they were in each other's line of sight. Will they fight? And just what happened after the visit with Namor? He must know they're on opposite sides of the registration act...will he make another "inappropriate" grandstand move as Ororo once suggested? I give the guy credit for persistence, but damn, he just can't take no for an answer! Or with "Mrs. Richards" as he put it, is it a 'maybe'? Sue does send out mixed signals constantly. The woman's gonna get caught in her own trap one of these days. :woot:

Not to start any junk but Sue seemed quite...refreshed by the time she got back. :oldrazz:

BTW, who was the black chick with the jewel on her head? I don't have a clue.

And the SHROUD on that last panel... I couldn't believe it, he was one of the group captured! He was one of my fav characters that sort of fell into the background.

Is Hercules aging like a mortal now? His face looks horrible, all lined and cracked. But then all the men's faces are 'over drawn' anyway, with lines that make no anatomical sense. Sometimes I wonder if a wildcat got loose and scratched everyone up.

And who was the other 'generic bald black dude' in the corner of the anti-reg group? Not the one with the mask, the angry one (they're always angry).

It's a well documented fact that the Storms have always had a "thing" for that sweet Atlantean sugar. (Johnny bagged Namorita, may she Rest In Peace).

I think you're looking into things way too much.

Glad to have another Shroud fan. He appeared in the MS. MARVEL CW tie-in issues (written by Reed and all good, BTW). Apparently he'd started dating Julia Carpenter, aka Arachne, and when she was "drafted" into pro-SHRA service upon registering like Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man, she quickly turned against them to save Shroud. After fighting some SHIELD agents, Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man were dispatched to capture them as they raced for the border to Canada (after going for Carpenter's daughter). Getting into a fight while speeding on the highway, Shroud attempted to take on Wonder Man and Ms. Marvel, and in the melee was captured. Arachne was captured an issue later, literally being pulled from her daughter. That is why Shroud was seen there. Arachne will be seen in the upcoming OMEGA FLIGHT.

Shroud is a cool character, with a premise that was probably ahead of it's time as the concept of a "vigilante posing as a villian to root out baddies", like an undercover or a MIAMI VICE/HEAT sort of thing, is something that could make a good MK or MAX series now, but was wasted in the 80's-90's. Plus, others just write him off as a rip-off of the Shadow and dismiss him. But I always thought he had potential, and hopefully doesn't die in FRONTLINE #11 or CW #7.

Compared to the flights of fancy I've read here, this speculation is mild.

Nah, I stand by what I said...in the final splash page Sue is DIRECTLY across from Reed, and that ain't no accident. I don't remember her stance being so defiant before.

I'm hoping Shroud gets a series...he was always totally cool as a character, and had nice interaction with Spidey. (I wonder if his dark power would affect Spidey the same way now that he's enhanced. I know it used to mess up his Spider sense pretty bad.)

Hmmmmm. If it messed up Pete's Spider Sense, I wonder if it could affect Tony's Techno-Spider Sense?

One thought tho is we've seen the pics of an F4 with Torch, Thing, and Storm and BP. Meaning no Reed and Sue. It could just be that they are about to fight, can't pull themselves to do it and run off together mid fight for some R&R. No matter their problems, I just can't see Reed and Sue fighting eachother in a bloody battle, it would be a horrible mistake on any writers part to take Marvel's first couple and have them beating the holy hell out of eachother. Sue was mad when she left with that note, but not mad as in "I'm going to cover your head in an air bubble and choke you out so I can go crawl in bed with Namor" mad.

Anyway you could be right, but I really hope your not lol.

I agree. Like I said before, his concept was sort of wasted in the 80's-90's but these days, with more modern storytelling and in the wake of "undercover" movies like HEAT or MIAMI VICE (yes, the recent film was very good), and so forth, I believe it could work. The fact that he was recently taken in by the Feds can re-establish some "street cred" for him. I could imagine writers like Vaughan, Brubaker or even Tieri (THUNDERBOLTS, CW: WAR CRIMES) running well with that sort of concept. But right now I'm just hoping he survives CW #7.

Good memory on how Shroud used to muck with Spidey's "spider-sense" with his mystical shadow-powers. Spider-Man's had about 2 power boosts within the past 2-3 years although aside for the organic webbing, almost no writers acknowledge these new powers, even the writers who CREATED them (i.e. Spider-Man can control spiders and is about 5 tons stronger than he used to be, and I've never noticed). As Shroud's powers were mystical, they could in theory muck with Iron Man's technological imitation of the spider-sense, but that would be at the whim of the writer. In any case, Shroud fared poorly when he tried to take on Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man (although he did knock WM on his rear), so he may want to stick to less potent opponents. ;)

As for Reed & Sue, I could see them leaving the stage or splitting, but probably not dying. Marvel played with the "is Reed dead" at least twice within the past 10 years or so; it's been played out.

I'm a huge Shroud fan. Have been since his MTU where he and Spidey unmasked in front of one another.

I also got exposed to him in a Spider-Man story; he showed up in some SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN story during the 90's back when Bushema was drawing it (the story itself was rather generic; back when Dr. Strange's pad was destroyed, some mystical demon mask things got freed and started taking over people by sticking atop their faces). Thought he was cool, bought a few back issues and read up. He has potential.

Like I said, back then he was limited, but nowadays I could see Brubaker, Tieri, or Vaughan doing a MK sort of crime thriller with him posing underground, and like with most undercover stories, the dilemma when one sometimes can get lost between the con and the mission. He used to lead a gang on the West Coast called the Night Shift and has to still have underworld contacts.

I remember those issues of Spec. Spiderman. I was a fairly new reader back then, but couldn't get into the Shroud. I have liked him in his recent appearances though and could even more if he were to become some type of decent character.
