As far as fan "reviews" on IMDB & RT: I suspect 90% or more of the general population don't even bother with those kinds of forums because of what a cesspool they've become. They're mostly just over-zealous, basement-dwelling fanboys showing their love/hate for a particular film/franchise.
Most people probably use RT to get the latest scores and maybe to see what their favorite reviewer(s) have to say about a particular film, while IMDB exists primarily for people like my wife who want to find out the name of the actor/actress who played in "that one movie with what's his name".

Nothing to worry about.

In my opinion, when you see a fan demand "something new"? Its usually code word for "I want my own specific preferences indulged." And most of the time, that means something dumb, like "forget this stupid storytelling stuff, I want 90 minutes of a hero and a villain fighting it out!"

Iron Man 3 committed the doubly unforgivable "sin" of:

1. Promising a "Dark, Serious" tone

2. Having a theme of "Iron Man is not the armor"

Both of which are unacceptable to the juvenile indulgence crowd, who want to pretend they are Tony Stark flying around in armor, blasting everyone, and getting all the chicks, while simultaneously shielding themselves from criticism with magic words like "modern mythology" and "The Dark Knight".

He *never* was a particularly good Mandarin. The character he was portraying had basically nothing in common with the comic character. Killian, by contrast, has a *lot* in common with the comic character, basically all the theme and character stuff except for race and incidentals like magic alien rings.

Hah. I think you are too optimistic. I suspect the response from the more hardcore quarters will be more along the lines of "the general audience likes *crap*!" or something similar that discounts popular success as meaningful. Never underestimate the power of cognitive dissonance and tribalism.

The "Iron Man is not the armor" theme would've been more universally-appreciated had it not reduced the armor to a secondary plot element. The armor served no purpose, not even the Iron Patriot armor.

This is not so bad. I remember when Antman had a bunch of rotten reviews up first and it had a bad rating and people were even saying it would be Marvel Studios first rotten movie, although it was known several positive reviews were out there and simply not added yet.

Yes RT is really eager to add any negative reviews but it's taking it's time with the positives. I'm still waiting for Drew's review to be added. I've counted reviews by mirror, independent, joblo, den of geek, slashfilm and hitfix that should be up by now.
