ok so take this with a grain of salt but, I have been hearing rumors that clark died while battling doomsday in the last episode. The reason behind the new suit is because its not clark, its the eradicator ?

Also check this out and I give credit to emijayne for this one.

let's take a look at the season finale. Clark was told he was going to die that day. The battle with Doomsday was a joke and he supposedly buried him under that plant. "Kal El" shows up and tells Chloe that Clark Kent is dead.

Now, let's look at this rumor and put it with what I have heard. You are hearing the Eradicator is the dark suit Superman. Okay. Kinda interesting. What I've heard is (and this was confirmed by Brian Peterson) that Clark will go through 4 suits before ending up in the more iconic one. If you combine the two rumors, you get the Reign of the Supermen. There were 4 who appeared after his death.

The problem with both is Clark goes through the training starting from the very beginning of the new season. So, is it actually Clark training? Or is Clark training and Jor El sent copies to protect the planet so he won't leave again until he's ready? Or could there simply be four suits and no sort of clone? Or could none of it be true? I guess we'll just have to watch and see....

Thats some interesting rumors and speculation and it would be neat for them to do that. But from what it looks like and what we know it is clark and he just cutting out his humanity for a time and is struggling still to find that balance between his human morals and thoughts and his kryptonian self.

I mentioned this exact "clark died clone thing" MONTHS ago to TIM @ supermantv.net in the smallville forums.
My thought was clark didn't actually "know" how he escaped the explosion with doomsday... So maybe he was rescued by a clone sent by Jor-el & the whole dark clark story isn't actually clark, he's recovering in the fortress.

I don't get how he could not survive the explosion. He's Superman! I thought fire doesn't hurt him one bit. And it's not like Doomsday beat him to death. They only threw one punch each and the fight was over.

OH man this sounds like almost like that Clone Saga in Spider-man..it could easily go wrong and fast

Though it would be cool to see the four "Supermen" on Smallville

I saw an interview with the writers where they said they were aware of Eradicator, but that we wouldn't be seeing him, and they aren't using him. But when we heard "Clark is dead" at the end of last season, it's the first thing that popped into my head - that's not really Clark.

My thought...it's not Clark. It's one of the ideas listed above. That explains his lack of humanity, his relationship issues with Chloe, and the outfit. Clark will be back a few episodes in, he'll like the idea of the outfit, but not the colors, and we'll see version two, with some red/yellow/blue mixed in.

I think the Eradicator theory is plausible. DD only hit Clark really once, but we didn't see what happened when they were going to shaft. DD is just as fast as Clark and could have easily stabbed him and caused him to die. The question I have is, if this is in fact what happened, why would the Eradicator go to the funeral and stop to see Chloe?

I like the other theory as well, where this is really Clark and he really did give up on his "human" side. No matter which theory is right, we know that a retcon will need to happen at some point to put the time line back on track. The only way for that to happen is for Clark to stop the Persuader or Chloe needs to go. I can't wait to see what happens. The season can't get here fast enough.

I'll buy that ,
there's a clip showing clark on a rooftop with burning city skyline background.
This Dark clark saga could be in an alternate timeline as its almost identical image to ZOD/LEX on roof of luthorcorp season 6
(or could just be lazy background editing:whatever:)

I think it's lazy background editing...

I think it's lazy background editing...

Extremely likely... though we also see clark fighting someone in the barn ..a woman with what i thought was Jor-el's Dagger .
This dagger was destroyed by Zod/Lex in "Vessel" i think.
Thats why i thought this could all be alternate reality stuff ... as if clark's become the threat to the world that Zod/Lex was earlier.

No.
No Clark dying on this show. Ever, please.

No.
No Clark dying on this show. Ever, please.

To quote charlton heston "It's happened before ..It Will happen again, it's only a matter of time" :shock

though hopefully not until Doomsday Returns (Finale Movie i hope)

well technically clark has died like 3 times in the series before the whole doomsday/clark non fight. Now i would be down with the the whole thing of the copy clark/eradicator would make for an interesting storyline for a few episodes and nice to throw in that thing from the comics. But All signs are pointing it is just clark.

Mmmmm...

1 = Know he died when he got shot while human few seasons back & lionel revives him
2 = Didn't think he actually "died" in Odyssey season 8, i thought he WAS dying but was healed by the sun.
3 = ?????

he was dead for a few mins to in that episode with lana taking the death shots to see her parents and clark talked with his earth dad for a bit.

He also wasn't breathing for a while when he got shot by a kryptonite-bullet

The problem wih this is that it's just very much what they already did with Bizzaro.

ok i would get the eradicator, but i cant imagine steel, cyborg, and super boy versions of clark lol

I Think it's possible each costume phase could nod to those characters though,
Not 4 characters/clones more 4 personality changes for clark.

Clark is alive, and no, is not the Eradicator, he just wants to be more kryptonian than human because of what happened in the finale; Lois will be key for Clark to find the right balance between his two identities.

SMALLVILLE Season 9 News - Showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson Interview Comic-Con 2009

Brian Peterson: We’re trying to explore, maybe the last stage this next couple of years. What Clark Kent goes through in his decision to put on the cape and tights. It’s kind of based on a couple of pieces of mythology from when he died, and his Doomsday fight in the comics, and the costume he wore after that, and that’s kind of the basis of what we’re doing with his look this year.

Someone tweeted that, I want to say, the Eradicator, I think that’s what they were saying?

Kelly: Well, Twitter never lies!

I’m just repeating what someone wrote. Is there any truth to this Eradicator thing?

Brian: I’m not familiar with the Eradicator, I don’t think either of us are, I’m sorry. So that would probably be a no, but I’m not familiar with what they may have taken that from…

Eradicator was a Kryptonian character who kind of jumpstarted him back to life.

Brian: That’s not what we’re, no.

Kelly: Thanks for the idea, Twitter.

So what are you going to be doing now that you have another season?

Brian: ..... One is Clark training with Jor-El and for the first time really embracing what that means to be a hero, trying to give up his human identity but finding how hard that is when you’re in love with somebody. So that’s kind of the thread, between Lois and Clark and the Blur, and his training with Jor-El, that’s kind of the thread.

What inspired you to put Clark in a costume of some sort this season?

Brian Peterson: It came out of the character and the story that we had in the finale. For the first time really, there was a big question about whether Clark did the right thing or not, and that has propelled him in one direction, and giving up being Clark Kent, just embracing being a hero so he doesn't get emotinonally attached; and Oliver Queen has been propelled in the opposite direction. They're both making opposite choices.

Kryptonsite

Well we all kinda new that from all the interviews back at the con then. Though the original poster had an interesting idea and its a way they could have taken with "Dark" clark and all that. Cant wait to see how this all plays out.

She was full of crap. You shouldnt believe anything she says
