Pascal, with Mandalorian and Last of Us; Mando & Grogu, Joel & Ellie, has for some reason currently become the poster boy for that narrative trope.
Though lots of fantastic ones informed it, from Greek Heracles and Iolaus to classic Knights & Squires, just to name a few favs;

Popeye & Swee'pee,
Tracey & Jr.,
Batman & Robin
Film:
1968 True Grit: Rooster Cogburn & Mattie Ross
1970 El Topo (starts off that way, yet then completely subverts it :funny:)
1970 obviously Lone Wolf and Cub
1981 Mad Max 2: Road Warrior slightly played at with the annoying Feral Kid, then even further with the whole Tribe in Thunderdome.
Does Indy & Short Round count ?
1986 Ripley & Newt in Aliens fem version underlying narrative.
1991 Terminator 2: somwhat takes on that role in Judgment Day
1994 Léon (a.k.a. The Professional)
1994- The Crow (& Sarah) does he count on a supernatural level?

Would love a list of all the Incidents/Films/TV that dropped this one.
Where was the first (outside of OZ obviously) to reference it?
