Clint Eastwood will next direct a biopic of controversial FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, says The Hollywood Reporter. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment will produce.

Hoover was the first Director of the FBI of the United States. He was instrumental in founding the FBI in 1935, where he remained director until his death in 1972. Hoover is credited with building the FBI into a large and efficient crime-fighting agency, and with instituting a number of modern innovations to police technology, such as a centralized fingerprint file and forensic laboratories.

Late in life, and after his death, Hoover became an increasingly controversial figure. His critics have accused him of exceeding the jurisdiction of the FBI.

Dustin Lance Black (Milk) wrote the script.

Fascinating person, this is great material for Clint.

very interesting . could make an interesting movie

I have to admit, i immediately thought to myself "I bet we'll see this one at the Academy Awards" when i read about it :hehe:

But it does sound like a cool project for sure.

I love how the guy never stops working..

wish he'd make one more western though :o

Very much intrigued. Enigmatic man indeed. Curious to whom they'll cast. I wonder if they'll humanize him or make him even more of a puzzle. Eastwood is a good director so I hope he'll keep this from becoming the bland affair that biopics usually are.

hope Clint won't forget the dark side of the man !!

Billy Crudup's accent in Public Enemies..what do call that? It was the 'broadcast news reporter' accent from the 30s. It always sounds like he's pitching an idea to you.

My first thought "I think Christian Bale should play an FBI agent, he'd thrive in a period crime drama"

I'd see this. for the record I thought that Billy Crudup's Hoover was interesting in "Public Enemies"

Lol, my first thought when entering this thread was that they're making a biopic of Herbert Hoover. I was like, "Really? Huh."

i feel bad for Dicaprio . it looks like he really is desperate for an oscar. i hope he gets it this time.

I wonder if they will delve into the personal life of J. Edgar Hoover in this biopic of the legendary Director of FBI, such as the allegation that he fancied wearing women's clothing privately.

Same. Now I'm actually kind of disappointed, DiCaprio as H. Hoover would be hilarious.

I would love to watch a movie about Crudup's Hoover. He was the single best part of PE.

They had better.

Basically. But most of the time Bio pictures are almost sure winners for actor/actress. Just look at the last 10 years or so.

DiCaprio is too good to be *****ing about Oscars. I'd seriously say "**** the Academy" if I were him and sign onto a franchise type movie right now while I am still in my prime. Unless he is gunning for DDL or Streep. I doubt he will ever get to that level but keep chasing, for a LONG time...

Hmm....so I guess they are doing the early years or something? I'm not saying DiCaprio is still that young, but he is far removed from the famous bulldog-look. Prosthetics? Odd casting for sure, but interesting. And a team up between Eastwood and DiCaprio should be excellent.

its the perfect oscar team. Eastwood already got an oscar but he wants a new one. and Leo is going after the oscar for years now. and the character and story is also almost perfect for the oscar.

the only way both wont win the oscar is if a forest gump type movie and an gay political movie is nominated.

As much as i'm looking forward to this movie , this doesn't change the fact that Leo is again going for the Best Actor award.

Clint Eastwood + Dustin Lance Black + J.Edgar Hoover=

I had a feeling DiCaprio would get this role, him and Eastwood working together should be great.

In fairness I think Leo just looks for strong dramatic roles, he seems uninterested in comedies or action films.

with all due respect HR. there are tons of serious movies every year that are in no way oscar movies and will because of that not be nominated.

Leo just likes oscar type movies. nothing wrong with that.but it is what it is.
