Charlize Theron Tapped for Clint Eastwood’s Hoover Biopic

Clint Eastwood’s Hoover biopic continues to vacuum up stars. We hear Oscar winner Charlize Theron has resurfaced and is being offered the part of Helen Gandy, a Justice Department file clerk Hoover selected as his personal secretary at the age of 21, and who wound up working for him for over 54 years.

Damon Herriman the Latest to Join the Cast

Some interesting fact about his character, Bruno Hauptmann.

The man convicted of kidnapping and killing the Lindbergh baby. His conviction later came into question however, with police accused of doctoring evidence as well as ignoring and intimidating witnesses. The questions raised prompted Hoover to launch an FBI inquiry into the handling of the case.

Excited for the film, but I don't really see a resemblance between DiCaprio and Hoover.

The actors are ten times more handsome than the actual people. :p

Yeah.

I'm not getting a DiCaprio vibe at all.

He does resemble an actor I know, but I can't place the face to the name.

Clint Eastwood Reveals Judi Dench Cast In ‘J. Edgar’; Charlize Theron Looking Likely

Speaking with SandwichJohnFilms on the red carpet for his California Hall Of Fame induction, when asked about Charlize Theron‘s possible casting in film Eastwood told the site, “We think she will be in the film [with a smile.] And Judi Dench is definitely in the film and there we are."

We have been hearing about Dench’s potential casting for awhile, and had been trying to confirm with official reps, but with the director himself dropping the news, you can certainly consider this legit. As for Theron, it seems like it’s not quite official but it certainly appears like she’s leaning toward working with Eastwood and DiCaprio rather than toplining the fairy tale tentpole “Snow White And The Huntsman” which she’s also considering, and which is slated to shoot at the same time.

No word yet on which role she will play.

It sure as **** is shaping up to be an interesting, eclectic cast. Absolutely can't wait to see how Leo does in this.

Armie Hammer offer some details about the film

There are a couple flashforwards that see them in their ’70s in which make-up will use to age the Hammer and DiCaprio.

Though the script mainly follows Hoover and Toulson as strapping young men, there are several flash-forwards that present the duo aged into their seventies. No older versions of the men have yet been cast, so does that mean that Hammer and DiCaprio are going to don prosthetics? "I'm playing Toulson up to his elderly age!" Hammer confirmed. "Makeup stuff comes within the next couple weeks. We're definitely doing a lot of wardrobe stuff right now, but the makeup stuff we haven't done yet."

On Judi Dench's character.

(Hammer was excited by the recent addition of Judi Dench to the cast: "The Dame plays Hoover's mother. Really perfect.")

wow I was just reading about that and was going to post it

Seems like it could be great

Could be. Seems like an unusual project for Leo and Eastwood. I'm looking forward to seeing how Leo will differentiate himself from playing another famous person like Howard Hughes.

'Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick joins J. Edgar

Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick has landed a major supporting role in J. Edgar, the Clint Eastwood-directed drama about manipulative FBI director J. Edgar Hoover that stars Leonardo DiCaprio. At the same time, Charlize Theron will not be playing the role of Helen Gandy, as was rumored. She's signing on for Snow White and the Huntsman at Universal and Eastwood is now looking at Naomi Watts and Amy Adams as possibles for the Gandy role. As for Westwick, the British actor will play a clean cut operative with writing skill. Once Hoover discovers he can write, he conscripts Agent Smith to write Hoover's biography, until Smith gets a little too close to the truth. The film's produced by Imagine Entertainment and Eastwood's Malpaso. The Social Network's Armie Hammer also signed on to play Hoover's assistant and secret lover Clyde Tolson.

I'd really like to see Eastwood do another Western before he rides off into the great sunset in the sky. Although, he might have said what he wanted to say with Unforgiven.

I think Clint is most definitely done with westerns. And acting.

Josh Lucas Lands Lindbergh in 'J. Edgar'

Josh Lucas, already a candidate to play the 16th President in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, has landed the role of aviator Charles Lindbergh in the Clint Eastwood-directed J. Edgar for Warner Bros.

The kidnapping of Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Jr. was dubbed the crime of the century and made headlines across the world. A 10-week, nationwide search for the baby was conducted while negotiations elsewhere resulted in ransom being paid for the location of the missing child. Tracing the gold certificates issued for ransom, officials were finally led to Bruno Hauptmann who was holed up in his home in The Bronx with a large chunk of the ransom money.

Naomi Watts and Ken Howard joins the cast.

Naomi Watts has joined the cast of Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar in the part of Helen Gandy, Variety is reporting.

Gandy served as personal secretary to J. Edgar Hoover, working closely alongside him for over half a century. Following his death in 1972, Gandy was responsible for destroying Hoover's files that allegedly contained information on some of the most powerful men in the country.

Now the film boasts Ken Howard as Harlan F. Stone, who was U.S. Attorney General, but was later appointed to the Supreme Court. He was an Associate Justice from 1925-1941, and elevated to Chief Justice in June of ’41. We’ll likely see him as an Associate during J. Edgar, which seems to primarily take place during the mid to late ’30s.

Naomi Watts Join's The Cast
EXCLUSIVE: Naomi Watts has signed on to star in J. Edgar, the Clint Eastwood-directed biopic. Watts will play Helen Gandy, J. Edgar Hoover’s loyal secretary for 54 years. Hoover (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) called her indispensible and she was the ultimate keeper of his secrets and a behind the scenes influence on the workings of the FBI. After Hoover died, Gandy spent weeks destroying his personal file, which contained the incriminating material that he used to manipulate and control the most powerful figures in D.C. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing with Eastwood and his Malpaso partner Rob Lorenz. Watts takes the role that Charlize Theron was once expected to play, before she moved on to play the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsman and to likely be in the cast of the Ridley Scott-directed Prometheus. Watts had been the frontrunner, but the studio considered other actresses because it looked like her schedule wouldn’t work out. It has.
