<H1>French duo to remake 'Hellraiser'
Clive Barker to produce for Dimension

By MICHAEL FLEMING

French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have scared up the job of writing and directing a remake of Clive Barker's 1987 horror film "Hellraiser" for Dimension Films. Barker will produce.

Dimension, which scored a hit with a redo of "Halloween," has the same hopes for "Hellraiser," the film that hatched a franchise around the pasty-faced Pinhead.
The original film revolved around a couple who move into an old house inhabited by the man's eviscerated half-brother, who escaped hellish torture from the Cenobites but returned shorn of his skin. The Cenobites, who are triggered by a Rubik's Cube-like puzzle device that unlocks the gates of hell, would like another meeting with the man.
Maury and Bustillo most recently directed the French fright film "Inside," released last summer in France.
"Julien and Alex showed their incredible creative talent on 'Inside,' and I'm excited to have them at the helm, working with Clive Barker, to create a fresh, suspenseful and scary reimagining of the classic tale," said Weinstein Co. co-chairman Bob Weinstein. TWC picked up distribution rights to "Inside," a thriller about a pregnant woman who loses her boyfriend in a car crash and is subsequently haunted violently by a mysterious woman.

I loved the first 3. It seems a bit soon for a remake but I'll probably watch this one. Makes more sense than Karate Kid. LOL

if Chatterer isnt in it, I aint seeing it...also, no Bradley as Pinhead is a bad move, IMO

I want a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake GOD DAMNIT.

i can see why people would want this left alone but i'm not totally against this remake. it would be trippy seeing what kind of wacko demonoid minions today's effects would be able to produce.

I liked this movie more than Nightmare, Friday 13 and Holloween, it doesn't need a remake and how the hell are they going to replace the actor who played Pinhead?

I can see it now Kate Bosworth is going to be cast as the cheating wife.

I wanted to bump this thread.

I haven't heard anything about it in a while and a few sites still have it coming out very early next year. Just wondering if anyone has read or heard anything new about it?

god no, the first one is still perfect...now a Nightmare prequel on the other hand...
Well alot of us thought Halloween was perfect the way it was and u see what Zombie gave us. I don't know if I find any comfort knowing Barker is involved in this..Its either gonna be completly the same just with different actors or its gonna sux...
Someone mentioned Nightmare remake, give it time I'm sure some moron will remake it...All the other classic slasher movies have been redone/reboot;Texas,Halloween,Friday the 13th,now Hellraiser..I'm surprised Nightmare has'nt been redone yet...

Martyrs Director Now on Hellraiser
Source:The Hollywood Reporter October 29, 2008

Martyrs's Pascal Laugier is closing in on a deal that will put him at the helm of Dimension Films' Hellraiser.

The project first landed in the laps of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside). They were in line to write and direct a remake, then Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton were brought in to pen a new draft.

"This is a dream project for me," Laugier tells THR. "I know Clive Barker's work very well, and I would never betray what he has done. Fans are expecting a definitive Hellraiser and I don't want to take that away from them."

Only problem with his quote is that we practically got a 'definitive' version when the creator of the story made the film himself a few decades ago.

I don't think they can top the original, as nocomics stated above this film will only have two options.

1. Will suck
2. Will be completely the same...which would equal a complete waste of time.

I just saw Martyrs (If you're a horror fan, see this film. Now.) and I can say that the remake is in very good hands now...

(Though I liked the idea of the Inside dudes making it better.)

I agree Rac. Martyrs was really good. I felt worried about a Hellraiser remake until I re-watched it and thought "Wow...Clive is a horrible director". No diss to Clive, but please stick to writing great books. I love his work in writing, but Hellraiser and that Illusion movie were terrible in a sense of direction.

Now, that doesnt' mean the old Hellraiser film was bad, but it lacked a LOT. That's not all Clives fault, his bugdet was very small, but what he did was just simple point and shoot and I compare that movie to his Hellbound Heart and I'll pick up the book again before I watch Hellraiser.

Laugier is a good director and he really respects Clive and Hellraiser. Barker is producing it and will be on hand during filming, so I doubt much can go wrong. Hellraiser can be a masterpiece of a horror film again with the right aspects added to it. An actual 'Director', a budget and the guy who created it to begin with...with those things, Hellraiser can become a horror film that is worth watching.

Seriously, go back and really WATCH the first Hellraiser. It isn't nearly as good visually as you really want to believe. If any film needs to be remade, Hellraiser would be it. Granted, Barker had some pretty good visual in his Hellraiser but it wasn't nearly as what it could be.

If I had any say, I'd scrap the whole Hellraiser idea and go The Hellbound Heart route (Hellbound Heart is Hellraiser in book form people).

I just picked up the first Hellraiser recently, so I'll watch it again and see if it holds up still.

Get on with it already! I loved the original Hellraiser as is but a new Hellraiser movie is always welcome as long as it is better than the 4 straight to video/dvd sequels. Hopefully they can make the cenobites scary & exciting again. Although it would probably tank at the box office, as a Hellraiser fan I will gladly watch it at least 1 time & if I like it I will definitely watch it multiple times the same as I did with the original.
