Cloud Atlas

Haven't seen the movie yet but i'll support anything wachowski so my ticket is bought.

Wachowski are fascinating. after Matrix 3 was critical destroyed they made Speed Racer. a movie that we all knew had no chance making a profit and being liked by general public. WB knew that SR will bomb. Joel Silver knew. but this was a blank check after th matrix trilogy. but they were experimenting.

and now 4 years after Speed Racer they again made a movie that has no chance making a profit. its a scifi movie for people who like complex movies. because they needed more effects for Cloud Atlas they even threw in some of their own money.

i just have to support them. they both know how to make a 200 million commercial movie that will make money in summer. for years they are always in talks with WB for a summer action movie. but they always say no. the answer is no because WB doesnt give them creative control. which is of course good for WB. but when making movies they dont think about profit. they think about art.

i have to support them.

I disagree. While WB is generous with directors who have made them money , they aren't crazy to spend so much movie knowing that a movie would bomb.
A calculated risk like Watchmen is a possiblity but not on the scale of Speed Racer. While it was a unknown property i blame marketing for not promoting the movie well. It could've been a Cars-like movie. Kids would've loved it.

i dont think that they knew that the movie would bomb when they greenlight the movie. but after they started filming with all the concept art they knew it will be hard to promote the movie.

i remember reading a lot articles in 2008 that the movie was going over budget. somewhere around 50 millions. is this true?

because while the movie looked very cartoony and stylized the surfaces on the cars were 'imega'' detailed with all the physical correct reflections.

No, no.

WB is only paying for distribution. That is their only contribution this go around. The production fees were all paid by different production companies that were gathered by the Wachowskis. They didn't put only some of their money but they were able to find various production companies to cover the costs. WB didn't put a single cent into the production of this film.

They've only put money into distribution. So they aren't investing anywhere near the amount of cash they did with Speed Racer or the Matrix films.

Doubt it.
The official number for the budget is 120 million but as always there are reports that the movie is much more expensive ( around 180 million).
But the wachowskis know how to plan their movies. Even with the matrix movies , they've planned the movies well enough to know how much they are allowed to spend.

i meant that the Wachowski payed some of their own money for this movie. :yay:

I was very surprised to see the movie is ''Rated R''

I have a feeling the RT score for this is going to jump all over the place.

i would be 100% hyped if the RT would be under 50%.

I predict it will end up in the 70's, or maybe low 80's. I could be 100% wrong but we'll see. Whatever happens, I'm officially sold on it.

It's still rising ( 78 %).
Although i still have see it for myself , generally speaking unless something is entertaining to warrant multiple viewings chances are that this won't do well at the BO. Unless a movie has killer reviews and scores big at awards ceremonies , the general audience won't go for to see a movie more then once just to absorb all the material.
However there is something about movies with uplifting themes that tend to do well at the BO . Look at Slumdog Millionaire.
As long as something doesn't come off at pretentious

IMAX release baby :woot:

Keith David, man. This movie's got my money (and my full attention).

I had no idea Keith David was in this. Must have missed him in the trailer.

An already great cast got better. :)

I'm pissed off, because we don't even have a release date here. I'm not even sure I'll get to see it in a theater.

Saw a trailer for this today, consider me very, very, very intrigued! I just hope we get it in my country sometime in this decade :csad:
