didnt see a thread on this so i thought i'd start one. i dont get what the fuss is over college. yes, if you want to be like a lawyer or some thing where you NEED to get serious schooling, but personally i think the whole college thing is a scam. and from what i hear from ppl i know, friends and so on, they all are going for the "college experience", meaning living in a dorm to get away from home and there towns, and to socialize alot and meet new people, and to, well, "party" alot. ok, thats a lot of money spent just to party. i am not the partying type, so i dont think college would be that good for me, i plan on going to a trade school and getting a certification in something i really like. i dont want to have to do math, sience, history, etc all over again from high school. but i seriously dont get the hubub over why you HAVE to go to college to get a super great job. all the adults i know didnt go to college and they turned out fine. i also hear that college teachers can be jerks, and think there opinions are law, which its not. i think its overrated is all, it seems all kids wanna do is party all the time, and drink and whatever. thats not my style, so i am choosing not to go, because i dont want to be a brain surgeon or whatever. does anyone else feel the same?

Funny, I've gone for an education and opportunity, and it has served me well.

And I'm certainly not a brain surgeon or lawyer

depends on the person i guess. im speaking for the ppl who are confused about whether its worth the doe and time or not. everyones different.

any college degree will serve you better than a plain ol' highschool diploma. If you content with working as an office worker bee, a fast food pusher, or a manual laborer then yeah college isnt really nessisary but if your trying to do something more specialized having a college degree really puts you at a better advantage than other applicants unless your one of the lucky people that end up just 'falling' into a well paying career. But then, the world needs ditch diggers too. There are also things like eletrical unions and contractors that have a type of schooling while not a college degree definitly help in your work placments

It seems you have the stereotypical view of college. It's not what it's like in those lame American Pie movies. If you find a great job that supports you that's cool, but whatever floats your boat.

College girls, however, are most certainly NOT overrated. :o

Didn't anyone ever tell you? Life is a scam.

University isn't for everyone, you have to think about what'll be right for you in the long run etc.
I spent 4 years at Uni and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and think it was well worth it.

The only bad thing is my student loan :cmad::cmad:.

when in doubt, online college. Its cheaper and you can be on SHH at the same time.

Your friends sound like a bunch of idiots.

Going to a good college will give you experience and opportunities that going to trade school can't give you. Not to mention that with each degree you get, Associates, Bachelors, Masters, etc.. You go up in pay scale for what you could be earning, as well as opening up new opportunities you wouldn't have otherwise.

There are plenty of jobs that don't need college, you're right. But, there are plenty of jobs that do, and that usually pay better.

College is fine but it takes an extremely tame or extremely wealthy person to see it all the way through. Paying your own money to sit through 4-5 hours of lecture a day for 3-5 days a week isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I took out a loan for my education and my classes are only 75 minutes long, so again, no one experience is definitive for everyone.

I can somewhat sympathize. I'm not a partier either, and the constant shenanigans of my room mates and dorm mates really got on my nerves when I was at school. Still, I liked to learn about history and science and all that, so that was my motivation: my nerdiness. I liked hearing the differing opinions of the professors and students. It was a very eye opening experience for me.

As for trade schools, nothing wrong with that. Electricians for example make some damn good money. If thats what you want, then go for it. :yay:

I need my lawn mowed...thanks. And it is dumb to think every student at every college is a party animal. Trade schools are fine if it is what you love but you will still be stuck in the lower middle class.

ONLY 75 minutes long!?! Like I said, extremely wealthy or extremely tame. I can't sit still for 75 minutes on my own terms, forget about 75 minutes on someone elses terms.

Then you have some sort of attention problem and perhaps should get checked out.

My classes are 3 hours long.

No, it's called freedom son. Some guys got the balls to take it... and some don't.

It is easily worth the money and time...are you serious:huh: Do you not see the constant polls and figures on how much college grads earn more than high school grads? More people with less opportunities can still apply for grants, loans, scholarships, etc... and it is well worth it in the long run...easily.

Wow:csad:

No one said life had to be easy. You sometimes have to suffer through things if you want to be successful. I mean, how can someone work for 8 hours a day every day of the week (assuming, of course, this person goes for the job of a wage slave) if (s)he can't sit still in the first place? Not a good enough excuse, really.
