I unsubscribed to Collider Video maybe close to 2 years ago now. Got kinda repetitive and just because too fanboy focused without much actual insight and more importantly stopped being funny.

However, I do still frequent the Collider site as my primary movie news source and saw this a few minutes ago.
Our video production side has been putting out terrific content for years, but as we begin 2020, that video content will be moving into an exciting new direction. Today, our video production will be refocused towards expanding high-quality, scripted, unscripted and celebrity-driven content. This means more emphasis on popular series like Comic Book Shopping and The Deepfake Saga, but we also have to say goodbye to some beloved series. We will be ceasing production on Movie Talk, Collider Live, Jedi Council, and Heroes, and we cannot begin to express the depth of our gratitude to our loyal fans and to those who worked tirelessly on these productions.

We’re incredibly excited about the future of our video content, and we can’t wait to share our next chapter with you.

Here’s the full press release on the changes we’re making in our video content production:

Collider to Refocus Video Content in New Era of Entertainment

collider-logo-social(Los Angeles, CA – January 2, 2020) Collider announced today a refocusing of its video content as a new and exciting era begins for the company. In its two years operating as an independent entity, Collider has steadily developed its slate of video offerings, revamping its daily programming and producing premium series including Comic Book Shopping, Above The Line, The Deepfake Saga, Ladies Night, and For Your Consideration. As the company continues expanding its commitment to high-quality, scripted, unscripted, and celebrity-driven content across all media and platforms, its video division will refocus its efforts on premium content that goes beyond film and television commentary.

“The support for our original programs – Movie Talk, Collider Live, Jedi Council, and Heroes – has been immense, and we’re forever grateful to our loyal audience and everyone involved in the successful production of these shows on and off camera,” said Marc Fernandez, CEO of Collider. “As Collider continues to expand, we look forward to bringing our audience new and exciting video content in 2020 and beyond.”

Collider.com, one of the most-visited entertainment news websites, will continue its successful, in-depth reporting on the entertainment industry with breaking news, original features, and extensive interviews. It will continue working alongside both Collider Video and Collider Games, a full-service virtual reality development studio, to evolve the Collider brand alongside its global audience.
Collider Video to Refocus Its Direction for a New Era of Entertainment

They kinda frame it like parents trying to sell their kids on a divorce
Don't know how many Collider Video viewers are on here, but just posting.

It's good idea, to kinda make the SportsCenter of Movies. The problems are 1) There's not enough happening in movies news everyday to have a relatively expensively shot show everyday 2) The space is too crowded.

As long as The Collider Podcast with Matt Goldberg and Adam Chitwood remains, I'm good.

Comic Book Shopping with Coy still remains so that’s good. That was only thing left outside Heroes that was worth watching on that channel anyway. Jedi Council never felt the same after Harloff left but Ken Napzok was a worthy successor as host.

I won’t miss Colider Movie Talk one bit. That ran out of steam a long time ago and should’ve ended sooner.

Collider just isn’t the same as it used to be a while back. The good content with engaging personalities and fun discussions is long gone.

So many great people left and others where completely sidelined. It just gradually lost most of its appeal.

Collider like other channels have become more and more exclusive vehicles for Disney to advertise their stuff/proprieties.

The ones in the team i liked the most where Schnepp, Harloff, Burnett, Tzeng, Perri and Rocha.

Harloff, Schnepp and Perri for me. And also Napzok. That’s about it. Trying to think if there’s anyone else I genuinely liked.

The bubble just burst. There's too many people doing the whole fanboy/nerd movie thing. They have to adapt. Collider Video was the most high end of all of them. They tried to operate it like a network show and that was never going to work at this level.
Double Toasted has moved to Twitch streaming
Schmoes Know double downed on their Movie Trivia Schmoedown
Screen Junkies got bought out by Fandom, produced their own Galaxy Quest documentary and luckily they have Honest Trailers
Jahns and Stuckmann are lucky/smart. They're a one man, one room operations.

Times are changing

So they’re ending most of their normal video content to focus on trashy deep fake videos? Wow.
They probably think more celebrity focused videos will bring more clicks

Stopped When harloff went off on not being invited to galaxy's edge premiere back in June. Along with screen junkies these types of youtube channels just suck now and are boring.

That was an an all-timer!! That was so funny.

The Red Letter Media response was hilarious.

I only watched Heroes after Schnepp passed, Coy and Amy held on strong. It’s a shame this is happening, but I can definitely see them forming a new collective.

I've tuned in infrequently over the the last few years but I kinda bailed on them long ago because the discussions on Movie Talk were too focused on superhero and Star Wars stuff. Like, it's stuff in my wheel house but at the same time some of the discussion was just too fanboy-ish and too in the hollywood bubble for my liking. The movie conversations lacked for the most part any real debate or discussion with everyone more or less agreeing with each other most of the time. On top of that, the people they started to bring in just became annoying. The better discussion happens with the Red Letter Media guys and Double Toasted who not only have fair and honest critiques but also have fun doing what they're doing. I always felt like Collider was walking on eggshells in comparison. I think Perri is adorable but that girl just can't seem to give a overly critical review to save her life. Something tells me Screen Junkies is next.

There’s only a few people that can pull off talking about movies without coming off as smug and ill informed without a guest being interviewed.

These guys weren’t one of them.
Fernandez has to be the most nitpicky, pretentious and negative person I've seen on Collider. if it doesn't involve George Lucas, its bad to him so I fully expect collider to be just deepfakes and BS from now on that s**** on filmmakers that arent george. I also thought Harloffs rant was hilariously pathetic and petty. I did enjoy listening to perri, Riley, ellis, and Napzok though and it sucks they wont be able to do this anymore due to Fernandezs mismanagement.

I don't recall every reading any of their articles or reviews or watching any videos but I liked your post because you just explained most modern film "journalists/critics" accurately. A large percentage of video critics mainly just review the summer blockbuster geek films. Some of them I would probably laugh at if they tried to review a movie with some depth. Jeremy Jahns comes to mind.

I could never stand Jahns when they’d have him on Collider. Another one that tries way too hard to be funny and fails miserably.

Well that's silly. SJ has videos and series that consistently bring in 500k-1m views and they have over 6 mill subscribers. They're good. They did try the pay route and that tanked already, but that's not surprising
Collider or Double Toasted or whoever don't have anywhere near that

I had stopped watching by that point, but I did hear about that. It's pathetic.

The bolded reads snobby and pretentious as hell. Which is funny considering how some always try to label "critics"

As for the rest of the post, can you blame them? A large portion of the online film community is very fanboy based. Even if you go to r/movies, all the biggest threads or at least the ones with the most conversation are mostly the blockbuster "geek" films. Why would they not lean toward that when that's where the viewers are.
It's like if you're watching most FS1 or a lot of the ESPN shows. They focus mainly on Football, Basketball, etc; and not so much the other sports soccer. One of the reasons for that is because that's where the money is (in addition to some rights issues)

I'm not blaming them for going that route, I just lost interest. Especially when it felt like Collider started pulling their punches. And it was clear that it would be short lived.

.
Grown ass man saying he has been busting his ass for years being a star wars fan like its a right to be invited to all things star wars. Ive been a fan forever and would love a chance to go to a premiere or set visit but Im not gonna cry on youtube.

I'm by far not a film snob. In fact over the years I've become a bit more lenient on films while so many people can be incredibly harsh, even to the point of exaggerations about how bad a film might be.

From seeing some of these critics reviews I don't think a number of them have a truly great grasp on cinema necessarily. Like a number of things might go over their heads if a movie has a lot of subtext in it.
