Michael Fassbender would make a great Cassidy. Adian Turner (Original Being Human and The Hobbit) would be great too

Damn, the only good movie he's made was The Salton Sea and that was a decade ago. He's lame.

CloneWeb... sat down with Caruso to discuss I Am Number Four, and Preacher came up. Last I knew, Caruso wasn’t officially on board, but since he says he’ll be turning to that next, I assume that’s changed.

Caruso happily dropped his dream cast in the lap of the Internet. If he had his way, Chris Pine would be Jesse Custer, Shia LaBeouf would be Arseface (and has apparently expressed interest in the role), and Alex Pettyfer would be the Saint of All Killers.

I do not need to tell you how wrong those choices are. Even if you’ve never read Preacher, you can glance at the graphic to your right and know Pine ain’t Jesse Custer. (And I like Pine. He’s just not Custer and never will be. It’s not his fault.)
Meet Alex Pettyfer and D.J Caruso

My thoughts - Chris Pine as a potential Jesse - cool. Great in STAR TREK, and talented enough to pull the role off. Shia LaBeouf as Arseface - awesome. Wouldn't have thought he'd be willing to do that character with his star riding so high, but that's brilliant and hilarious. If you watch the video, and look at who he's sitting beside, I don't think he would actually cast Alex Pettyfer as The Saint. I'd gladly take Pine and LaBeouf in the cast.

The comment I'm not sure about is "It's a lot of story to put into one movie" since I'm really hoping the whole sixty issues are going to be split over two or three movies. Caruso may just mean in general, since there was so much story in even just the first 10+ issues. Caruso was an advocate of Y: THE LAST MAN being a trilogy, so I'm sure he'll recognise the need for more than one movie to get the best out of PREACHER.

Here's the quotes about the casting stuff in case you can't watch the video and don't trust Google translate:

Caruso: An actor that I love very much and I’ve had a conversation with is Chris Pine, for Jesse. Shia LaBeouf loves Arseface, he wants to play Arseface, so we’re kinda working that out. And Tulip... And this guy right here, he’s thinking that The Saint of Killers is a really good role, even though he hasn’t read it yet but he will.
Pettyfer: Don’t need to read it!

By the way, I didn't make a mistake on "And Tulip...", he says that and then just stops oddly enough.

Oh wow where do I begin? I read the Preacher series a long time ago its one of the few I finished from beginning to end and I loved it.

Chris Pine - Actually not a terrible choice...but not making me do backflips.

Shia Labeouf - Interesting but awkward choice. I mean isn't Shia Labeouf only doing leading main parts these days? Arseface isn't exactly a main character type. I think he could handle playing Arseface but it seems like an awkward career choice unless they plan on making Arseface a main character which could be a bad move.

Alex Pettyfer - What...the...****????? Okay now I think I am convinced Alex Pettyfer must have some kind of blackmail evidence on D.J. Caruso or Caruso is just ******ed. THE SAINT OF KILLERS IS NOT A 20 YEAR OLD PRETTY BOY. I wonder if Caruso is confusing Saint with Cassidy??? But even if that is the case that is a pretty embarrassing mistake.

I always prayed that Preacher would get the HBO animated treatment like Spawn did...I think that is the only real way to do Preacher justice. A film is gonna be one tough thing to pull off no matter what cast or director.

Scott Glen for The Saint of Killers!
And I'm not crazy about Pine as Preacher. I would like someone with a more rugged look.

It just feels like the DJ who directed the Salton Sea died a long time ago, and a Michael Bay Lite replaced his soul.

Ugggghhh I just want this to go away and go back to what Mark Steven Johnson wanted to do... just straight up bringing every Preacher issue to animated form on HBO.

I think the only format Preacher is suited for is like a premium cable series.

Caruso would ruin it.

And honestly, I just don't think Preacher is material that masses would see or enjoy.

I'm glad Caruso isn't doing Y, The Last Man anymore either. He would just sanitize it and do the same thing with Preacher. Try and make it PG-13.

I really don't think you can make Preacher work as a live action movie. You'll just end up with something like Punisher War Zone, and we all know how that ended up.

Wasnt James Marsden attached to be Jesse?
He was a few years back when Rachel Talalay was directing. The director of the current incarnation has mentioned James Franco and Chris Pine as contenders for Jesse.

so I read the first 8 issues of PReacher for the first time.
And I know it's been said to death... but this really would work better as a TV show

Yep I would say 9 outta 10 people who are fans of Preacher would say that which is why I am still doing this  over HBO not giving it the greenlight. This has disaster written all over it and I am praying that this current film plan for Preacher falls apart and a TV series is reconsidered but I am not holding my breath.

Deadline are linking D.J. Caruso heavily with the post of director on the adaptation of the brilliant Lawrence Block novel A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES, so if that is true then who knows what that means for PREACHER. I do know that as of 10 days ago Caruso was still on PREACHER since he said he was looking to get Oscar-winning AVATAR cinematographer Mauro Fiore to be the Director of Photography for it.

I'm perfectly happy for PREACHER to be a film series. One movie can't do the story justice, but three could.

Caruso is doing both PREACHER and a A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES: "My plate is full, but taking them all on. Very exciting time for me."

This needs to be an HBO series - no way they can do it justice as a movie
