Ok how much do (x men) comics generally cost? Should I start off with the older ones. And do you just simply buy them at comic book stores because I dont know of many where I live. I hope they arent expensive because I would like to start reading them and I hate spending money on stuff I one day might lose interest in.

This will help you find a shop

X-Men comics, just like most comics marvel publishes are around $2.99 an issue. You can subscribe to Marvel directly and get twelve issues for $19.95 or something like that. It will come in the mail.

Now, that said, I can't recommend any of the X-Books. Not even Astonishing. Wheadon and Cassiday will be gone soon and I don't know weather they will cancel the book or put some losers on it after they're run is done. New creative teams will be coming on Uncanny X-men and plain ole X-Men shortly. So, if I were you i'd wait a couple of months. In the meantime, there are better books than X-Men out there.

Yes there are but the guy is interested in X-Men so let him decide if he likes them enough or not.

Be quiet while grown folks are talkin

So they basically cost 3 dollars a comic? Thats actually alot cheaper then I had anticipated.

Well, if you're talking back issues, that could be expensive. But current comics, about 3 bucks.

Oh. I doubt I'd be able to follow the new issues. But then again I'd buy anything if it were only 3 dollars.

Well, there's always trade paperbacks. With Trades you get an entire story collected into one book. If you bought the comics as they came out at 3 bucks a pop, on an average of a 6 issue story arc, you'd be paying about 18 bucks, but with a trade you might pay about 10 - 15 bucks so you['d save anywhere from 3 - 8 bucks. And the X-Men have a lot of trades collecting key moments in they're history. X-Men: Phoenix saga, God Loves man kills, Age of Apocalypse, etc. There's also something called the Essentials. Which collects pretty much everything from the beginning waaay back in the 60's on through to modern times. (Eventually, I don't know where it's at now, possibly in the late 70's early 80's by now.) You get like 20 issues in one volume for like 14 bucks. The only problem is that it's in black and white and well, comics from the old days don't really translate well to today's sensibilities. I myself, find it very hard to read any comics from before the 80's. There was a shift during that time in which a lot of great writers and artist started to show up and really revolutionize the way comics were written. So, I can't recommend them myself, but if you're really into X-Men, and are willing to read the old stuff, the Essentials are there for you.

Hey BCD,
I've got to say one of my favorite ways of buying comics was to go to the bargain box. Usually, everything in there is a buck, or 50 cents. It includes: Some weird, forgotten comics; some cool but unpopular characters; some popular titles with a copy in rough condition but still readable.

At some places, you'll find crap no one would read. At some you'll find great stuff that you can't figure out why it's so cheap. Most places, of course, are somewhere in the middle.

I don't buy much anymore other than Graphic Novels or Trade Paperbacks. But I used to go in, pick up my current two or three, then spend an hour digging through the bargain box. Three of the readable (but not very collectable) stuff I "discovered": Nova the Human Rocket (Marvel); Blue Devil (DC) and Badger (one of those "other" companies; Badger was a mentally ill, short-tempered but good-hearted, animal-loving martial artist).
