Complete Overreaction by the Mexican Govt. (Swine Flu)

Yeah, it is the flu, and influenza can kill you. Nevermind the fact that the disease evolves to affect different species in different ways and if a human catches either the bird or swine variety, the same methods we use to fight off the human strain may not work.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm still waiting for SARS to come for me.

Yeah....a flu that has killed dozens of people.

Nothing to worry about. :whatever:

Well, I wouldn't call it a pandemic yet, since that would mean found in several countries. Mexico and 3 states isn't a pandemic......but it certainly is something to watch and take seriously.

A new flu strain that has killed up to 68 people in Mexico could become a pandemic, the World Health Organization warned on Saturday, as Mexico's crowded capital hunkered down in fear of the disease.

Hmm, highly contagious, rapid spread, and 68 known possible casualties with the expectation of others to follow. In Mexico, they're medically deficient in many areas.

I do agree that this was excessive:
Mexico has shut schools and museums and canceled hundreds of public events in its sprawling, overcrowded capital of 20 million people to try to prevent further infections.
Mexico City canceled a foot race along its most famous avenue and a blues music festival on the city's edge. Two soccer matches on Sunday were to be played in empty stadiums.
Shopping centers were hushed, restaurant reservations were canceled and everyone from waiters to churchgoers wore face masks. Hundreds called a flu hotline.

However, this is the kind of reaction that agressive airborne viruses usually procure.

In this situation... It is better to overreact that underreact.

Yeah, it's just a little shocking when most governments do this in non-politically related issues.

Well then....Immigration problem solved.:o....

Damn you for making me laugh at that.

Anyways, it would compound the immigration problem, as now we'd have sick people coming over the borders who may avoid medical care due to their illegal status.

I am a card-carrying hypochondriac... and this scares me to no end.
The threat of the super-bug is always out there.
And this is where being an introverted hermit is a GOOD thing. :hehe: Can't catch a contagious bug if you're not out with other people!

It's hard to get worked up over this after the SARS and bird flu epidemics just fizzled out.

Just because they call it a flu doesn't make it a joke.
